Hill People Gear – Junction Pack

Thursday, February 6th, 2020

Hill People Gear is known for their solid packs built for demanding backcountry users. The new Junction pack departs from this formula a bit. It is named for Grand Junction Colorado where HPG’s retail store stands on historic Main Street. Grand Junction is a crossroads for adventurers and plenty of seasoned travelers stop at the store on their way through town. But it’s also a crossroads for tourists who simply want to day hike the local trails. The Junction Pack is built to meet the needs of these folks.

At 1350ci / 22L, it’s just large enough to carry trail essentials plus the puffy jacket that you should have with you year around in Colorado. Unlike all of the other HPG packs, it has only a minimal compression system consisting of a paracord lace on the back. The lace system can be used to capture small items and also add tension to the oversized angle cut wand pockets. A zippered top pocket is large enough for keys and a cell phone. The single main compartment is accessed through a single top zipper. On the suspension side, there is a zippered water bladder pocket that can also be used to carry just about any 13” display laptop. The pack’s suspension is the same as the smaller Tarahumara backpack — Hill People Gear’s signature yoke style harness and quilted padded back. A pocket frame sheet can optionally be added for increased structure.

Like all Hill People Gear packs, the Junction is designed and tested in the Rocky Mountains and built in the USA by First Spear.

UF PRO Bringing Its Newest Tactical Clothing Products to 2020 Enforce Tac and IWA in Nuremberg

Thursday, February 6th, 2020

TRZIN, SLOVENIA (05 February 2020)—UF PRO today said it will unveil no fewer than a half-dozen new tactical clothing products as well as showcase other products in its continually expanding catalogue at both the Enforce Tac and IWA Outdoor Classics trade shows in Nuremberg, Germany, next month.

Enforce Tac will be held 4-5 March in Nuremberg’s exhibition centre. UF PRO will be at Stand 12-424 to display the new and familiar lineups.

On 6 March, the UF PRO booth will take up a new position in the same exhibition centre for the start of the IWA Outdoor Classics show, which runs until 9 March. During that time, UF PRO will conduct operations from Stand 9-303.

UF PRO said it will premier at the two shows two next-generation Tactical Pants. The new pants are a part of the company’s popular P-40 range of tactical wear. They’ll offer an updated design, functional pockets, and exceptional wear comfort for the user, the company reported.

Additionally, UF PRO indicated it intends to introduce two new Jackets to their existing lineups. The first one is said to be extremely well suited for sub-zero temperatures and built with features that protect the operator in cold winter conditions. Second is a jacket, designed for cooler and wet environments and boasting a plentiful pocket configuration.

“Both of these jackets will be available in MultiCam and the main advantage is they are now fully covered in this pattern, no parts are left out. “ explained Armin Wagner, head of product development for UF PRO.

“This is a major step forward and it was quite the challenge to achieve, because of the different materials we use in our gear”, added Wagner.

Expected at the UF PRO booth during both trade shows will be several other already introduced items. They include:

Delta ML Gen.2 Jacket in Steel Grey—a feather-light thermal-insulation jacket suitable for wear as a middle or outer layer (it features abrasion-resistant side panels, G-Loft thermal insulation filling, moisture-wicking microfleece lining, and a face fabric that is water-repellent and windproof).

Striker X Combat Shirt in Brown Grey and Flecktarn camouflage patterns—a rugged-design, no-melt/no-drip garment developed by drawing on insights from military operators in need for extremely demanding use.

Striker X Combat Pants in Flecktarn, Brown Grey, and MultiCam camouflage patterns—like the Striker X Combat Shirt, these streamlined pants were developed with military operator input in order to endow them with previously elusive durability.

FR Striker Combat Shirt and Combat Pants set—a not-for-civilian-use flame-retardant BDU sold to government agencies only.

Additionally, UF PRO will have on hand many popular staples found in its current catalogue. Among those will be the waterproof Monsoon XT BDU lineup plus all of the Striker Combat Pants models, such as the hot-weather Striker HT Combat Pants (to be shown in Desert Grey) and the Striker XT Gen.2 Combat Pants (widely considered the go-to choice for base wear).

Enforce Tac is an annual gathering of police, security officials, and members of the military from across Europe and beyond. It is widely recognized as a premier event for showcasing the newest tactical gear as well as for glimpsing the upcoming products soon to be available on the market.

IWA is a major trade fair geared more (but not entirely) toward the civilian market. As such, it is typically thronged with hunters, competitive shooters, lovers of the great outdoors, and those interested in becoming more proficient at self-defense.

“At these two shows we typically greet thousands of professionals and civilians who want to undertake missions or engage in recreational pursuits while outfitted with clothing that’s exceptionally durable, highly protective, smartly fitting, highly functional and above all comfortable,”  said Armin Wagner.

“We yet again very much look forward to participating in these two phenomenal shows,” he added.

UF PRO makes advanced-technology field garments that include jackets, shirts, pants, hats, caps, and accessories popular with military and law-enforcement personnel.

Federal Expands Lineup of 6.5 Creedmoor Loads and Adds Options in 6.5 PRC

Wednesday, February 5th, 2020

ANOKA, Minnesota – February 3, 2020 – Federal has expanded its available loads in 6.5 to cover a range of shooting disciplines. The newest additions for 2020 include the 6.5 Creedmoor Swift Scirocco II, Terminal Ascent and the MeatEater Series Trophy Copper. Terminal Ascent is also available in 6.5 PRC. In addition, Federal has expanded its trusted Federal Premium Gold Medal rifle ammunition line with a new 6.5 PRC load.

Born as a competition round, the 6.5 Creedmoor has quickly become one of the most popular hunting cartridges on the market. No surprise, either, since its flat trajectory, high ballistic coefficients and blistering velocities give it a deadly combination of long-range accuracy and lethal hunting firepower—all from a short-action platform with relatively mild recoil.

“Fans of the 6.5 Creedmoor have several hard-hitting new options at their disposal, thanks to a flurry of new introductions, plus a new 6.5 PRC loading,” said Federal Centerfire Rifle Ammunition Product Director Mike Holm. “In 2020, we have raised the bar in performance and versatility with high-powered loads perfect for a variety of hunting or competition shooting with new Berger, MeatEater, Swift, and Terminal Ascent options. We are especially excited for customers to experience these four newest additions to our long list of 6.5 cartridges.”

6.5 PRC Gold Medal Berger – 140-grain, 2,925 FPS: The fast-flat-shooting cartridge has already proven itself in Precision Rifle Series competition and has earned the respect of elite long-range shooters. The new round is loaded with the extremely accurate Berger Hybrid bullet, and paired with Gold Medal match primers, Federal brass and specially formulated propellant.

6.5 PRC and 6.5 Creedmoor Terminal Ascent – 130-grain, 3,000 and 2,800 FPS: Bonded construction penetrates deep on close targets, while the patented Slipstream polymer tip initiates expansion at velocities 200 fps lower than comparable designs. The bullet’s long, sleek profile offers an extremely high ballistic coefficient, and its AccuChannel groove technology improves accuracy and minimizes drag. Now available in a full selection of long-range hunting cartridges.

6.5 Creedmoor Swift Scirocco II – 130-grain, 2,800 FPS: The bullet’s streamlined design and high ballistic coefficient produce flat trajectories, while retaining more velocity and energy downrange. Aided by its proprietary polymer tip, the Scirocco II expands at minimal velocities yet offers high weight retention at close range thanks to its bonded copper jacket.

6.5 Creedmoor Trophy Copper MeatEater – 120-grain, 2,875 FPS: The polymer-tipped Trophy Copper bullet retains 99 percent of its weight for the deepest penetration possible in an expanding bullet. Plus, the tipped bullet cavity is optimized for reliable expansion across a broad spectrum of velocities. As a bonus, its grooved shank boosts accuracy in a wide range of firearms, while the nickel-plated case prevents corrosion and aids in faster, easier extraction. It also features a boat-tail design to increase ballistic coefficient for higher downrange velocities, more energy on impact and less bullet drop. This is the official ammunition of MeatEater, with new packaging that highlights this partnership.

These new products were announced at the 2020 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 21-24. New Terminal Ascent ship at the end of January 2020. Swift Scirocco II, MeatEater Trophy Copper and 6.5 PRC Gold Medal Berger are scheduled to ship in the Spring of 2020.

Federal ammunition can be found at dealers nationwide or purchased online direct from Federal. For more information on all products from Federal or to shop online, visit www.federalpremium.com.

Samson Manufacturing Introduces the New SXT Series M-LOK Handguards—Same Quality, Lower Price!

Wednesday, February 5th, 2020

The NEW SXT Series replaces the SXS Series Handguards. By simplifying the method of attachment we were able to lower the price. The SXT Series uses a simpler clamping system of two cross bolts which fit into the barrel nut for a rapid and easy installation. The old SXS Series clamping system used a bias block on the bottom to secure the forearm to the barrel nut (which required knurling).

SXT Handguards are made from 6061-T6 aluminum with a MIL-A-8625 type III class 2 anodized finish. Standard SXT Series Handguards are available in lengths of 4”, 7”, 9”, 10”, 11”, 12” and 15”. Each handguard includes a hex wrench, barrel nut, and a barrel nut wrench.

For more information on the new SXT Series handguards and to order, go to the SXT Series Handguard page on the Samson website.

Soldier Helps Pave the Way in Army’s First Tabletop Wargame Team

Wednesday, February 5th, 2020

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. — When 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Command Headquarters and Headquarters Company commander, Capt. Ivan Cho, first started playing tabletop wargames in eighth grade, he never would have thought he’d be playing his favorite games while wearing the Army logo.

Cho, and three other Army active duty and reserve Soldiers, did just this as the U.S. Army eSports’ Warhammer 40,000 Team at the Las Vegas Open on January 24, 2020, which hosts the largest Warhammer 40,000 Tournament in the world.

“It really opens up avenues for civilians and other parties to see that the United States Army has opportunities within it if you are willing to branch out and try new things,” said Cho.

The U.S. Army eSports Team is a competition team of the U.S. Army and pulls its members from the Regular Army and Army Reserves. The Team has various sub-teams that fall under the Army eSports Team, including the Army eSports Warhammer 40,000 Team. Members play competitive Warhammer 40,000, a tabletop wargame where players enact battle by using miniature models of warriors and combat equipment on top of the layout of a battlefield.

“For a lot of veterans, Warhammer 40,000 is considered great for morale and therapeutic because of the vast hobby aspects that come with it including building the miniatures, painting them, then being able to compete against other players and hobbyists,” said Cho.

Cho and his teammates competed against over 750 players and played more than six rounds of games. Each round was roughly two and a half hours long, totaling about 15 hours of gaming over the course of two days. All four team members made the top 25 percent of players, competing with some of the best players in the world.

“I think it will have a lot of benefits for future Army players to know they have the backing of the United States Army to play and compete in a hobby they love to do,” said Cho.

The Army eSports Warhammer 40,000 Team consists of six active members from across the Nation: Capt. Red Powell of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Capt. Ivan Cho, Capt. Matthew Talley of U.S. Army Forces Command, Master Sgt. Justin Pizzoferrato of the U.S. Army Cadet Command, Staff Sgt. Shane Watts of Defense Information Systems Agency, and Staff Sgt. Jason Rider of 1st Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.

“At this time, we are in the works for opening up more slots on the active team and create a second team to encourage more growth in the Warhammer 40,000 community as well as show the rest of the world that you can be a Soldier and still do your normal hobbies,” said Cho.
