Threadsmiths – The Cavalier Dress Shirt

    Monday, May 16th, 2016

    1

Threadsmiths is a company based out of Melborne, Australia which has developed a patented hydrophobic nanotechnology application that repels water and dirt. Early last year, we featured an article on their first product, the Cavalier T-Shirt. Since then, they’ve developed an addition to their product line, the Cavalier Dress Shirt, and sent SSD one for review.

    6

The Cavalier Dress Shirt is a premium 100% white cotton dress shirt complete with mother of pearl buttons, and is treated with Threadsmiths patented hydrophobic nanotechnology application. Like the Cavalier T-Shirt, it comes in a fairly slim fit, so ordering a size up is recommended.

    2

Also like the Cavalier t-shirt, the Cavalier Dress Shirt is great at repelling virtually any water-based substances. Seen above, we’ve covered the shirt in water, juice, and soy sauce. As a reminder, the coating does not work well against oil-based liquids.

    3

The amount of fluid we covered the shirt in is extreme, and also required a couple of minutes in a hot shower to completely remove. Considering the amount of colored fluid that was on the shirt, that’s still pretty impressive, especially since a regular white dress shirt would be all but ruined by that point. Typically, an amount of water equivalent to a large bottle is all that is needed to remove a spill.

    IMG_5259

The benefit of a hydrophobic and stain-resistant white dress shirt speaks for itself, and we’re eager to see what Threadsmiths will be offering next. The Cavalier Dress Shirt is currently available in White, sizes XS-XXXL. Threadsmiths also offers the Cavalier T-Shirt in White, Grey, and Black for men and women.

    Crimson Trace Classroom range training

(Wilsonville, OR)—Crimson Trace, the world’s most recognized and purchased brand of laser sights and tactical light systems for self-defense firearms, has opened the doors of gun shop and range classrooms across America. The new Crimson Trace Classroom™ program has already graduated nearly 1,000 students with more classes scheduled. Those class graduates work at the counters of stores and ranges from the Carolinas to California—and all points between.

The educational and informative two-part classroom includes an in-class session where students learn details about lasers, Crimson Trace product categories, and much more. Participating students learn about laser sight fundamentals, accuracy, protection, training and improving confidence.

A second segment of the Crimson Trace Classroom training places students on the gun range where they shoot revolvers equipped with Crimson Trace laser sights. One segment of this intense range session includes shooting with glasses specially designed to inhibit vision, and the students learn to rely on the laser sight for aiming. It’s a very popular course that helps gun shop staff better discuss laser sights with customers—and those discussions are based on experience. Stores that have included the FREE training for staff are reporting better prepared staff—and better served customers. The staff who complete the course also receive a certificate suitable for framing.

Stores and gun ranges interested in scheduling a FREE Crimson Trace Classroom event are encouraged to call 800-442-2406. Most classes are conducted by the eight Crimson Trace regional sales managers located across America along with other Crimson Trace staff.

For more than two decades, Wilsonville, Oregon based Crimson Trace has provided America’s gun owners, and military units and law enforcement officers around the globe, with the world’s largest selection of award-winning laser sights and tactical light products. Gunfighter Moment – Daryl Holland

    Saturday, May 14th, 2016

After my recent trip to Gunsite with Ken Hackathorn, I was telling him about how I and my favorite gunsmith (cousin) ruined a hammer while trying to get my 1911, 80 series trigger lighter and lighter. Ken told me that “good is good enough…most of us are too picky about our triggers”. When the legend was done humbling me in front of “Shooting USA”, I realized that I was fine with a stock trigger for training. Maybe a little polishing to remove some tool marks, but leave the custom trigger jobs to the custom shop that will replace your hammer if they screw it up.
If your trigger is below 4lbs of pressure you are fine. I never had a pistol below that number while in the Military due to liability and I assume that our States, Counties and Cities are the same.

Stop complaining about your hard trigger and work on your hand strength.

    Respectfully, Daryl Holland

New NATO SS Ballistic Resistant Shield From Protech Tactical

    Thursday, May 12th, 2016

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Safariland today announced the release of the new Protech Tactical NATO SS Ballistic Resistant Shield, NIJ 0108.01 type III compliant. Comprised of advanced composite, high-performance polyethylene and ceramic, this type III shield boasts protection from a multitude of rounds, which is vital for members of the law enforcement community.

Demand for the NATO SS was driven by a surplus of the M855/SS109 rounds in the domestic U.S. market. As suppliers release the M855/SS109 rounds to civilian distributors, the need for effective type III equipment is more important than ever.

“Officers are significantly more likely to encounter the M855/SS109 today than just a few years ago,” says Dan McNeil, Director of Tactical Armor. “Traditional lightweight type III ballistic- resistant shields are not able to attack the challenge of defeating this round. Committed to Safariland’s mantra that, ‘Together, We Save Lives,’ this next generation shield fromProtech Tactical will shift the marketplace.”

Ultimately, the NATO SS is designed for high-performance incidents as the first type III shield that successfully stops penetration of M855/SS109 rounds. Protech Tactical’s NATO line of products has already earned a reputation for life saving innovations. For example, Safariland SAVES Club Member #1940 was inducted earlier this year after the NATO II Shield stopped the rounds of a 12-gauge shotgun.

Specific to the new NATO SS, this ballistic resistant shield safeguards end users in law enforcement against numerous rounds, including the 7.62mm x 51mm M80 FMJ, 5.56mm x 45mm M193 Ball, 5.56mm x 45mm Tactical Bonded Projectile, 5.56mm x 45mm M855 Ball and the 7.62mm x 39mm PS Ball Projectile.

Featuring Safariland’s latest technology and highest quality materials, this shield measures 20” x 32” and features 4” ballistic wings for additional protection from angled shots. A strategically placed 4” x 10” viewport offers the user excellent visibility without sacrificing coverage. Moreover, a horizontal handle bar and standoff straps located on the back of the shield ensure proper placement during use. Each NATO SS also includes a shield support hook for additional support and stabilization, which is to reduce the weight-bearing load.

The NATO SS is available to order with part number 1189266 and is offered at $6,300 MSRP. For ordering, please contact an account representative or a member of the Safariland customer service team at 1.800.347.1200. For more information, visit www.safariland.com/protech-tactical.

SixKa Brand By 707 Tactical Gear Now Featuring PenCott Camo Clothing And Boots

    Wednesday, May 11th, 2016

Although fabrics in the PenCott family of advanced camouflage patterns have been printed in the USA since July 2011, finished products in the patterns have been harder to obtain in the Americas than they have in Europe – especially garments.

    SixKa

That situation has begun to noticeably improve this year, and there is also now a US-based company making a wide range of tactical clothing and boots in PenCott camouflage patterns. That company is 707 Tactical Gear out of Miami, Florida with their SixKa brand of tactical garments and gear. 707 Tactical Gear designs products specifically to their clients requests and cuts-and-sews them from U.S.-made milspec materials in their wholly owned factories in Mexico.

    Speed-Tac 9 PENCOTT

707 Tactical Gear provided the first sneak-peak look at SixKa products in PenCott patterns at the SHOT Show. Now they are going into full production with a range of tactical garments and boots in the PenCott GreenZone and BadLands camo patterns.

All PenCott camouflage fabrics are made and printed in the USA to US Army Milspec standards and include robust, comfortable and highly fade resistant, vat-dyed, Cordura brand Nylon-Cotton ripstop and ultra-strong, abrasion resistant, acid-dyed Cordura brand nylon.

PenCott camouflage fabrics and trims are stocked and distributed globally by MMI Textiles in Westlake, Ohio. Propper Now Shipping Revolutionary New Armor

    Sunday, May 8th, 2016

    1

St. Charles, MO – First announced at SHOT Show 2016, Propper is now shipping its new 4PV Concealable Vest. The 4PV (Four Panel Vest) is the latest innovation in armored protection. Four independent panels articulate to provide unparalleled mobility and protection. This easy to size platform provides a fully modular, highly adaptable and comfortable system that users want to wear.

Ill-fitting armor can be a hazard, as it forces the user to adjust shooting position and can make pursuing a suspect and other tactical situations awkward and dangerously different from training. Throw on uncomfortable, bulky armor and changes to shooting position and other tactics have to happen on the when training needs to kick in automatically. That’s why the 4PV line of armor features custom adjustable four-panel construction that offers superior protection and comfort not found in the typical two-panel vest.

“The four-panel ‘chassis’ design virtually eliminates the ride up effect when officers are seated and creates better mobility while performing their critical missions,” explained Skip Church, Vice President Armored Products. “Protection is paramount, and this design offers increased side area coverage, eliminating gaps.”

Most days on the job aren’t spent only sitting or standing. And a whole host of other duty-related maneuvers, such as climbing fences, giving chase or squatting down to help someone in need of aid. A vest should move with the user and not get in the way. Not only is ill-fitting armor uncomfortable, it can also expose vulnerabilities as the protective panels are no longer lined up correctly. So each 4PV armor system is designed to be fully adjustable for comfort and proper fit, providing the maximum protection no matter the user’s size or activity.

That’s why there is 4PV armor to fit any need:

  • 4PV: Concealed and comfortable
  • 4PV-FEM: Fit to the female form
  • 4PV-TAC: Tactical and tough
  • 4PV-U: Professional and protected
  • All 4PV styles can accommodate a wide range of NIJ-rated ballistic protection to fit the job if called upon.

“The 4PV is a leap forward in officer protection,” according to Church. “It was created to eliminate issues that have plagued the outdated two-panel design for years.”

From concealable armor for everyday uniform wear to outside armor to fit a departmental look or tactical protection for high-risk operations, the 4PV line has everything needed to maximize comfort and protection.
