Rheinmetall at CANSEC 2022: Presenting a Comprehensive Array of Products for Operational Superiority

Wednesday, June 1st, 2022

CANSEC Canada’s Global Defence and Security trade show 2022 is taking place in Ottawa from 1-2 June. Rheinmetall will be on-site (indoor booth #1121 and outdoor space #3021) showcasing some of its most recent and innovative technologies aimed at providing the Canadian Armed Forces with the edge they need to assure successful outcomes in multidimensional, current and future operating environments.

Again this year, numerous Rheinmetall products will be on display at Canada’s largest and most important defence industry event:

OSIRIS simulation system: Thanks to the system, commanders and staff officers of military formations and units can conduct exercises at the tactical, operational and strategic level in a realistic operating environment. This system forms part of the Canadian Army’s Land Vehicle Crew Training System (LVCTS) solution proposed by the FORC3 team.

HX 10×10 Heavy Recovery Vehicle (HRV): This robust vehicle, on display in the outdoor area, combines high off-road mobility with a heavy-duty recovery capability. It is able to recover vehicles in suspended as well as supported (underlift) tow mode. Highly mobile, the 10×10 vehicle features an underlift with a capacity of up to 15 tons as well as a recovery boom.

Naval simulation and training: The Rheinmetall portfolio includes a very broad range of training aids ranging from low complexity with computer-based training (CBT) to high complexity with fully equipped turnkey training centers, covering the principal as well as the derived warfare areas and responding to individual and collective training needs. The technical solutions can be realized in a scalable bandwidth of generic up to original equipment including type-specific settings. Below the surface, submarine command team trainers and submarine control simulators are valuable applications. Above the surface, the challenging conditions can be simulated by sophisticated solutions covering navigation, operations and weapons engagement as well as marine engineering. In a comprehensive approach, connected simulators allow training in distributed exercise scenarios and at different locations. This Total Ship Training constitutes a round and sound naval training environment.

Mission Master A-UGVs: The well-known family of Autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicles (A-UGVs) is designed to support military troops in dangerous missions, difficult terrain, and hostile weather conditions. Rheinmetall is launching at CANSEC its latest Mission Master XT – Rescue autonomous vehicle. The newly released rescue variant allows for in-field medical intervention and improves casuality care effectiveness no matter the terrain.

Also on display is the Mission Master SP – Fire support with C16 AGL system, a low-profile platform optimized for stealth with low-signature electric drivetrain for silent operations. The equipped 40mm grenade launcher with high-explosive, dual-purpose (HEDP) and airburst ammunitions provides an efficient solution for combat ground targets.

In addition to this, Rheinmetall will also be highlighting a series of different products and technologies coming from various partnerships, all aiming to offer the best solutions available for upcoming Canadian programs.

Joint Fire Modernization (JFM) project: Rheinmetall and Elbit Systems join forces in pursuit of Canada’s Joint Fires Modernization (JFM) project – an initiative that will enable the near real-time sharing of tactical, operational, and strategic fires and effects information through a digital network, delivering an immediate common operating picture. Introducing New High Speed Gear K9 Leads

Wednesday, June 1st, 2022

SWANSBORO, N.C. – June 1, 2022 – High Speed Gear® releases two new K9 leads for working dog handlers.

Earlier this year Sgt. Dawn Jauernik and her K9 Bonito from the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, inspired High Speed Gear® to create the Bonito 15’ Tracking Lead.

HSGI® has now added the K9 Adjustable Patrol Lead and the K9 Traffic Lead to the product line up. They are built from Mil-Spec tubular nylon webbing and have powder coated steel hardware for ultimate durability. These leads are made with Schoeller™ Nanosphere™ coating which repels water, dirt, debris and fur.

The Adjustable Patrol Lead can be adjusted from 3ft to 7ft and is designed to keep a medium distance between the K9 and handler.

The 1.5ft two-handle Traffic Lead allows the handler to have more overall control of the K9, whether performing a routine traffic stop, search and seizure, or awaiting to deploy a K9 for a foot pursuit.

“For years, High Speed Gear has designed the highest quality gear for professionals who rely on it the most” said Shelbie O’Brien, Sr. Commercial Business Development Manager for HSGI. “Now we are pleased to do the same for K9’s as well.”

Rheinmetall Announces Its Canadian Partners and Reveals its Team Name for the LVCTS Project: FORC3

Tuesday, May 31st, 2022

The partnership between Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin in pursuit of the Canadian Army’s Land Vehicle Crew Training System (LVCTS) project has a new name—FORC3—and a lineup of Canadian suppliers to fulfill its mission.

First announced in June 2020, the strategic partnership led by Rheinmetall Canada includes Lockheed Martin Canada, Rheinmetall Electronics (Bremen, Germany), and Lockheed Martin Training and Logistics Solutions (Orlando, Florida). The agreement created an international alliance with unrivalled experience and expertise in the design, development, and implementation of world-class combat vehicle virtual simulation centres used by Canada’s most important allies.

Pietro Mazzei, Vice-president, Rheinmetall Canada, explains, “The name FORC3 is all about promoting a partnership between Rheinmetall, Lockheed Martin, and the Department of National Defence (DND), united through excellence to enable training for adaptive dispersed operations.”
Together with the leading Canadian defence, service, infrastructure, and simulation companies, FORC3 has secured the domestic capabilities to build and operate five state-of-the-art LVCTS simulation centres across the country. The Canadian team comprises Rheinmetall Canada (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu), Lockheed Martin Canada (Ottawa), the ADGA Group (Ottawa), Bluedrop Training and Simulation (Halifax), EllisDon Construction and Building Services (London), Paladin AI (Montreal), and REDspace Incorporated (Halifax).

FORC3 will draw upon its partners’ global experience and cutting-edge technologies to fundamentally transform operational training for the Canadian Army. Each proposed simulation centre will create highly realistic synthetic environments that replicate the future land operating environment. Canadian forces will train as they will fight and where they will fight, encountering virtual adversaries posing a full range of hybrid, conventional, and emerging threats. Within these simulated operational scenarios, Canadian soldiers will have access to sophisticated analytical tools to exploit training to the fullest. The LVCTS will become a key enabler in training for adaptive dispersed operations, the Canadian Army’s capstone operating concept.
With FORC3’s team, the LVCTS program’s benefits will be felt across Canada. The project will bring modern technologies to the nation’s industries and create new and enduring high-quality jobs at the five simulation centres. As a member of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB), Rheinmetall Canada is committed to including Aboriginal businesses in its supply chains for the project. Additionally, the LVCTS project offers significant environmental benefits as traditional field training makes way for simulated operations hosted in carbon-neutral buildings.

Says Mazzei, “FORC3 is about Canadian industries uniting with DND to effectively and comprehensively prepare the Army’s women and men for the challenges they will face in the coming decades.”

The five custom-built simulation centres will enable progressive training at the individual, crew, platoon, and higher echelon levels using high-fidelity trainers, medium-fidelity reconfigurable trainers and standard trainee workstations combined with a robust virtual environment and comprehensive instructional system.
