Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018

What happens when you’re on a mission and your armor plate gets slimed? Sure, you’re wearing a protective ensemble, but what other vital equipment is protected from contamination?

That’s the question Gore’s Chem Bio Team asked themselves. One of the solutions they came up with was this prototype Plate Bag, made from their Ultra Barrier an impermeable fabric.

TYR Tactical Tuesday – Patented Female Shaped Body Armor

Tuesday, May 15th, 2018

TYR Tactical® began designing the Patented Female Shaped body armor system in 2014 in direct response to the US Army’s Soldier Protection System solicitation.

DE08A060-37F0-4D91-B033-9C35249C6735

Knowing that existing male or unisex systems do not allow female users to properly perform basic tasks and still maintain comfort, TYR Tactical® conducted Biomechanical and Female Athletic Performance Studies.  TYR Tactical’s findings provided the framework for its ergonomically shaped ballistics and carriers that conform specifically to the female anatomy.  The shape and structure of its Female Body Armor System allows females to perform their duties comfortably and enhance their capabilities without jeopardizing their protection.

PATENTED FEMALE SHAPE

US Patent No. 9,970,736, Patent Pending in Australia, Europe and Canada

Two lateral darts on the tactical outer carrier contour around the female’s natural shape while still providing a full range of motion, support and eliminates excess compression on the breast tissue.

Center for New American Security – “Soldier Protection Today”

Sunday, May 13th, 2018

“Soldier Protection Today” by Center for New American Security researchers Lauren Fish and Paul Scharre examines
the state of soldier protection today – both its value and limitations.

Their findings include:
-Body armor is effective at ballistic protection.
-Such protection comes at a price, and the weight of body armor has increased substantially.
-The conservative nature of body armor standards may mean that armor is overdesigned in several respects. -This means there may be opportunities for weight savings while still addressing the most prevalent threats.
-Body armor does not provide adequate protection from blast-induced brain injury, the signature wound of today’s wars.

EPIC was submitted as a candidate for the US Army’s Soldier Protection System Torso and Extremity Protection program, but the Army chose a government design instead which has just begun fielding, three years after selection.

Congratulations to the Air Force for adopting a great system and the first body armor designed specifically for females, rather than scaling a male system down in size.
