TRC Outdoors Bush Hats

Tuesday, June 1st, 2021

The Bush, or Boonie, Hat is beloved of soldiers everywhere.  It’s a very practical and comfortable bit of headgear.

One thing you find is that soldiers will take the item they are issued and modify it according to their own needs.  We’ve taken some of the most common modifications made to issued headgear, as well as the recommendations for alterations from the British Army Jungle School, and rolled them all into one product.

The hat itself has a 4cm brim which keeps the sun off of your eyes and/or face without blocking or channelling your field of view. It also won’t obstruct weapon optics

We’ve made the top of the hat out of the same tough mesh as our Timmy Hats so that your head is protected from the sun, but can still vent heat.

There’s a tie -on loop under the brim at the back of the hat so that you can dummy cord it to your clothing or gear to make sure you don’t lose it.

The cord to hold it in place is of a generous length so that you can wear it either under your chin or behind your head.

Finally, inside the hat there is a hi-viz band for IFF when you’re working in dense bush.  Ideal for the RE-ORG or for hunting.

We’ve made these hats in real, individual sizes rather than size ranges to make sure you get a well-fitting hat rather than making something that kind of fits a large group of people.

Available in Multicamo or Night Camo. Offered for discounted Pre-Sale now, dispatch at the end of June.

NP Aerospace Sets UK Challenge to Run Fastest Mile in a Bomb Suit

Friday, May 28th, 2021

Si Hannaford will be attempting to run the fastest mile in a bomb suit as he sets off on his 756 mile run from John O’Groats to Bicester as part of a 26 day triathlon.

NP Aerospace has challenged WO2 Si Hannaford, Bomb Disposal Operator for the British Army, to run the fastest mile in its new Bomb Suit during his Tri26 triathlon charity challenge.

Si Hannaford will be running, cycling and swimming 1777 miles in 26 days to raise £100,000 for charities, the Felix Fund and the Hummingbird Centre, starting in Portsmouth on 1st June and ending in Bicester on 26th June.

06:00, 12 June, John O’Groats, Scotland
On 12th June he will run the first of 756 miles in a 4030 ELITE Bomb Disposal Suit – weighing 35.8kg – in an attempt to beat the fastest mile in a bomb disposal suit record of 7-minutes 24-seconds which was set by a British Army Soldier in 2017.

Si, who has served in the British Army for 10 years and has done tours of Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo and Northern Ireland, was keen to take on the challenge to support the charities for which he has a strong connection. The Felix Fund provide welfare and financial support to military and police personnel working in bomb disposal and search. The Hummingbird Centre is a cancer support center based in Launton, near his home town of Bicester.

Simon Hannaford, the hero of the day, commented: “My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, so this cause is extremely important to me. I feel that I can suffer 26 days to help people who may be suffering their whole lives. It’s great to have the support of NP Aerospace. I have worn their bomb suits on operation for many years so I am keen to put the new suit to the test. It will be a gruelling challenge but worth every hour of training.”

James Kempston, CEO of NP Aerospace, said: “Si Hannaford’s courage and tenacity are undoubtedly essential to the success of a challenge like this and we are committed to supporting him every step of the way. Running the fastest mile in a bomb suit is extremely tough in normal circumstances let alone during a 26 day triathlon! As supporters of Felix Fund and other charity causes we are keen to lend our support. It will be great to see how 4030 ELITE suit stands up to the fastest mile challenge.”

Si is urging people to sign-up and follow his YouTube channel- he needs 1000 followers so he can broadcast it live from his mobile phone.

The Tri26 challenge is to swim 21miles – the length of the English channel – then cycle 1000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats and finally run 756 miles from John O’Groats back to Bicester. The first mile of the run will be wearing the NP Aerospace 4030 ELITE Bomb Suit.

Milrem Robotics’ THeMIS UGVs Used in a Live-Fire Manned-Unmanned Teaming Exercise

Wednesday, May 26th, 2021

The Estonian Defence Forces Artillery Battalion used Milrem Robotics’ THeMIS UGVs in a live-fire exercise to provide advanced situational awareness, conduct casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) and to support units manoeuvre while providing direct fire support from various positions.

During the exercise held in April, two THeMIS UGVs were used by the Artillery Battalion: the THeMIS Combat Support integrated with FN Herstal’s deFNder® Light Remote Weapon System (RWS) with a 7,62 mm machine gun and the THeMIS Observe with Acecore’s tethered drone.

The THeMIS Combat was tasked with supporting an advance force that consisted of an antitank weapons team and a forward observer’s team. The main task of the UGV was to provide covering fire and support the retreat of the two teams to main positions as well as transporting their anti-tank weapons. At the main battle position the UGV was used for casualty evacuation.

The THeMIS Observe provided overwatch and enhanced the battalion’s situational awareness. The use of a tethered attachment to the THeMIS UGV provides tactical units with 24 hours of constant observation of the operational area that is essential in the situational awareness prospective as well as peace time live-fire safety perspective.

“Taking part in the live-fire exercise of the Artillery Battalion was a great opportunity for us to validate our new infantry support UGV with end users in an actual combat scenario,” said Jüri Pajuste, Director of Defence Research at Milrem Robotics. “The THeMIS Combat Support as well as other unmanned ground systems will enhance various combat capabilities and help reduce loss of life during combat operations,” Pajuste added.

“We found several benefits in including UGVs into our battle scenario,” said Lt Mari-Li Kapp, Commander of operations and training section (S3) in the Artillery Battalion. “Having UGVs as a part of the reconnaissance force that prepares the arrival of the main unit, the UGVs could secure the indirect fire and anti-tank teams by providing direct fire support during an engagement and whilst some units are withdrawing. UGVs could also act as front guards all by themselves since they can provide situational awareness and act as forward observers for indirect fire,” she added.

Bollé Develops First High-Contrast Lens Using Artificial Intelligence

Wednesday, May 26th, 2021

The Volt + enhances all colors, setting a new standard for the most complete high contrast lens that users can try-out via the Rediscover Earth AR campaign

LYON, FRANCE (May 25, 2021) – Bollé is launching the most technologically advanced high contrast lens in the marketplace with the introduction of Volt +, Bollé’s first lens ever developed using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Volt + lens is the latest innovation to come out of EPIC, Bollé’s new state-of-the-art design and technology innovation lab based in Lyon, France. The lens technology will be included throughout Bollé’s line of sport and lifestyle sunglasses for the current Spring/Summer 2021 season.

“We’ve set high standards to be the innovation and technology leader in the development and creation of sports performance eyewear and helmets,” said Tove Fritzell, Bollé Director of Product & Innovation. “Our EPIC design center located at the foot of the Alps continues to deliver amazing results to harness the most advanced technology with the collaboration of our athletes who have an opportunity to sample and provide feedback at the foot of the world’s biggest playground.”

Bollé worked with HUE.AI to evaluate 20 million different lens formula combinations to settle on an incomparable color experience that sets a new standard against which all other lenses will be measured. The goal was to create a lens that was high contrast, enhanced all colors, and improved depth perception without compromising white balance. In the past, high contrast lenses have only enhanced one color while diminishing others but the Volt + enhances all colors, offering a complete high contrast lens that dramatically improves depth perception.

To support the Volt + launch, Bollé is introducing a new global digital advertising campaign, called Rediscover Earth that lets users rediscover the earth as they’ve never seen it before. The campaign highlights the new high contrast Volt + technology, which allows consumers to see their world differently. “That sense of discovery will inspire a wide variety of colorful experiences,” said Chris Abbruzzese, vice president, trade marketing for Bollé Brands North America.

Partnering with M7 Innovations and QReal for the third time, Bollé is further supporting the launch with multiple Augmented Reality (AR) ‘try-on’ and ‘try out’ campaigns, which allows users to experience the Volt + lens’ vibrant new colors across 15 different Bollé styles. The marquee AR experience via Instagram lets users witness a ‘Big Bang’ of color that leads them to an exclusive try-out experience using Volt + lens technology so they can fully Experience the Power of Color.

“Bollé has truly established itself as an innovative, dynamic brand by using advanced tech like AI and AR,” said Matt Maher, Founder of M7 Innovations. “While many brands took an unfortunate hit due to the pandemic, Bollé saw an opportunity to pivot and stay connected through fun, engaging AR campaigns that saw almost an 18 second dwell time, which is impressive. And now with AI, they have created a superior lens technology that users can experience through the company’s third AR campaign, demonstrating the value, success, and power of using these innovative technologies.

Rheinmetall Supplying Portuguese Army with 1,500 LM-LowProfile Laser Modules

Tuesday, May 25th, 2021

The Portuguese Army has awarded Rheinmetall an order for 1,500 LM-LowProfile laser modules. The contract, booked back in October 2020, calls for delivery of the devices in three lots. Delivery is to be complete by the third quarter of 2021. The order is worth a figure in the low single-digit million-euro range. In carrying out the order, Rheinmetall is cooperating closely with its local sales partner, NT Group Portugal.

Developed by Rheinmetall Soldier Electronics of Stockach, Germany, the minute LM-LowProfile laser module is designed for use on compact assault rifles, but it is also suitable for other small arms. The device, weighing around 160 grams and 85 mm long, can be attached to any standard assault rifle via a standard interface as defined by MIL-STD 1913/NATO STANAG 4694. Owing to its low height (25 mm), it can be used in combination with daylight optics. Nor does it interfere with the line of sight. Owing to the alignment of the laser along the running axis, the device lends itself particularly well to weapons without removeable mechanical sights (rear and front sights). Powered by a CR123 battery, the LM-LowProfile features visible and infrared target markers as well as a focusable infrared illuminator. All of the integrated lasers can be regulated in parallel by means of block adjustment. They can be remotely controlled via a trigger cable or by means of a single push button directly on the device. The LM-LowProfile is watertight at depths of up to 30 metres for up to two hours. Adding a tactical weapon light further enhances the laser module’s operational effectiveness. Rheinmetall has already supplied the Portuguese Army with a weapon light in an earlier order.

In comparative trials conducted by the Portuguese military, the device outshone its various rivals with regard both to ergonomics and performance. Moreover, the LM-LowProfile offers the added advantage of not being subject to America’s strict ITAR export regulations. Laser engraving can be used to individualize the devices.

Delivery is already underway. This is the third order from Portugal in the space of three years, underscoring the great trust the Portuguese military places in Rheinmetall’s soldier systems expertise.
