Interested in Some Special Platatac Kit?

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Platatac just posted a picture of a new rig on their Facebook wall. It’s a niche piece of kit but they’re wondering if anyone else would be interested in it. Go check it out, let ’em know what you think. Many people are unaware that the Australian company frequently builds small batches of specialized kit that never goes out on their commercial site. If they make just a few dozen it might cost as much as $400. If they manufacture over a hundred the price could be cut in half. Go check it out.

Caveat Emptor – Counterfeit FastMag Pistol

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

Counterfeit FastMag™ Pistol have been popping up. We received this alert from ITW Military Products and wanted to share it.

ITW Military Products recently has been alerted by one of their loyal U.S. users about a new circulating KNOCKOFF of the ITW FastMag™ Pistol.

The ITW FastMag™ Pistol (released in 2011) is built from the same hi-strength, GhillieTEX™ IR reducing, anti-fragmentation polymer as the original FastMag™. The FMP reduces reloading time for the operator and can be mounted in the up or down position. The system eliminates the need for traditional top closures by using an enhanced urethane tension strap, providing a secure point of access. Also available in duty belt, the entire FastMag™ series is designed to ‘double-stack’ on all FastMag™ Gen. III & FastMag™ Heavy.

Unfortunately, fake knockoff versions of the FastMag pistol have been showing up on the radar that recently hit the States. While the two items seem almost identical, there are a few subtle details that will let you know you have a counterfeit. First and most noticeable, the name “FastMag” is NOT molded on the front of the counterfeit; however, the “FastMag” logo IS imprinted on the back attachment strap

Another noticeable feature is located on the back of the items (Image 2). While the ITW FastMag™ Pistol has “MADE IN USA” imprinted, the counterfeit has “MADE IN CHINA” imprinted. Other subtle features to the counterfeit are its slightly more matte finish and its flimsy rubber tension strap and attachment strap. ITW Military Products uses an enhanced urethane material for its tension strap and mounting system, the knockoff counterfeit is using a basic elastic rubber much like a rubber band. If the user can easily adjust the tension strap and/or easily stretch the mounting strap, you have yourself a knockoff counterfeit. One other easy way to tell if you are not using an OEM FastMag Pistol? Your magazines fall out!

Buyers Beware What You Order Online, AND be aware of WHERE you are purchasing your kit. If you buy from an authorized source, listed here: www.itwmilitaryproducts.com/content/list-distributors you won’t have to worry.

NavExFor – FirstSpear

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

FirstSpear displayed their wares with GSS Gear, their latest retailer.

They displayed numerous products including the Combat Anorak, which is one of my favorite FirstSpear pieces.

They also displayed the Siege-R. They have made some light changes to the design in order to improve the vest’s ability to fall away from the body once the Tubes are cut away. We caught them during set up so this example doesn’t have the armor mounted.

Tree-Go IZLID Pouch

Monday, March 12th, 2012

MATBOCK LLC is a burgeoning company that you will hear lots more of in the future. After our article the other day on the BE Meyers IZLID, we thought it would be a capital idea to introduce our readers to MATBOCK for a great option for actually carrying the thing. Remember, an IZLID resembles maybe a flashlight or a light saber, so some JTACs use slap flare pouches but this is WAY better. Rather than some makeshift, it’s actually designed for use with the IZLID and allows the user to quickly place it into action. You pull up on the IZLID to pull it from the pouch and then the cap falls free. When it’s in its pouch the bungeed cap keeps tension on the IZLID, holding it in place. Simple.

The IZLID is currently available in three flavors; 200P, 1000 and Ultra. MATBOCK offers a pouches for the 1000 which is currently the workhorse. They are working with BE Meyers on a solution for the Ultra.

The IZLID pouch is available with two attachment systems. One is Velcro and designed to fit under the cummerbund flap at the front of the armor. The other version is naturally, MOLLE compatible. Available in Desert Digital, MultiCam, UCP and Coyote from 500D Cordura. Made in USA!

Introducing S.O.TECH’s MACTAC Kit

Friday, March 9th, 2012

S.O.TECH has a long history or working with law enforcement to push the envelope in tactical gear design. This time they’ve worked with LAPD, LASD, and Orange County Sheriffs Dept (CA) to create the MACTAC (Multi-Assault Counter-Terrorism Action Capabilities) as a way to respond to multiple violent assaults and/or terrorist acts. MACTAC was inspired by the tactical dilemmas posed by the Mumbai assault and active shooter incidents like Columbine.

“LAPD is in the process of developing supplemental courses to help supervisors and team leaders apply the MACTAC concept during critical field incidents.” – LAPD Official website

The kit includes the Mission Pack Micro, the Helmet Mesh Adapter, and the Rapid Response Bandolier with add-on items also available. The concept is, everything you need for any engagement in a single package, with hard plate coverage, helmet, ID patches, and an extra 120 rounds of ammunition. The pack also offers additional room for food and water, extra weapons/ammunition/holsters, an IFAK med kit and other mission-specific gear.

MACTAC training is rapidly becoming a top priority for a variety of agencies nationwide in 2012 and this new kit from S.O.TECH will support your requirements.

For Law Enforcement Agency Representatives interested in MACTAC, email jim@specopstech.com or julieb@specopstech.com to learn more about the program.
