The Evolution of Shooting Optics: Exploring Variable Prism Scopes

Monday, July 8th, 2024

As the world of shooting continuously evolves with technological advancements, a new development has spurredthe interest of both enthusiasts and professionals—the impending arrival of variable prism scopes. This innovative category of optics merges the robustness and clarity of traditional prism scopes with the adaptability of variable power optics, such as Low Power Variable Optics (LPVOs). Let’s explore why this emerging group of products might be the next ‘big thing’ in the shooting community.

Why Consider a Prism Scope?

Prism scopes have established a niche in the shooting market due to their compact, durable design and superior optical quality. Unlike traditional riflescope systems that rely on a series of lenses, prism scopes use a prism to fold light and create an image. This design allows them to be more compact and enhances their ability to produce clearer images with minimal optical distortion.

Key Advantages Over Traditional Scopes:

Etched Reticles: Prism scopes feature reticles that are laser etched directly onto the glass. This allows for more detailed designs that can include bullet drop compensation. Unlike red dot sights, where the red dot is projected onto a lens, an etched reticle remains visible even if the battery powering the illumination fails, ensuring reliability in critical situations.

Wider Field of View: The design of prism scopes generally allows for a wider field of view compared to traditional scopes at similar magnification levels, offering a better situational awareness.

Compact Size: The internal prism design helps keep these scopes shorter than conventional designs, making them ideal for dynamic shooting scenarios where agility is crucial.

Astigmatism Friendly: Many shooters with astigmatism find that red dot sights produce a blurred or distorted dot. Prism scopes, however, offer a crisp and detailed reticle, making them a superior choice for those with this common eye condition.

Enhanced Durability: Known for their rugged build, prism scopes can withstand the rigors of heavy field use, making them particularly beneficial for users who require a more durable, versatile optic.

Building Curiosity and Anticipation

While the market has yet to experience the full introduction of variable prism scopes, the anticipation is mounting. These scopes could potentially offer an unforeseen combination of durability, clarity, and flexibility, appealing to a broad spectrum of users from law enforcement professionals to recreational shooters.

The promise of variable prism scopes represents a significant leap forward in optical engineering. As we await further developments, it’s an exciting time to discuss and speculate on how these innovations could reshape the landscape of shooting optics. Keep an eye on this space; the future of precision optics is just around the corner, and it looks clearer and more versatile than ever before.

The First and Only Black & Veteran Owned Scotch Fior Partners with Operation Gratitude

Saturday, July 6th, 2024

Retired Marine Major Eric Dominijanni’s brand to donate $10,000 to the organization

MIAMI – June 2024 – Fior Scotch, the super-premium, hand-crafted, small-batch scotch launched by Marine Major Eric Dominijanni, announced today that it will partner with the non-profit Operation Gratitude.

Launched in 2023, Fior is the first and only Black-owned scotch and the first and only U.S. veteran-owned scotch. Major Dominijanni isn’t your typical Marine or scotch enthusiast. After a 20-year military career as an Assault Amphibian Officer with three tours in Iraq and two in Okinawa, he started to mix various samples of particularly good scotches into what would become his “Infinity Bottle.” Eventually, the blend became so good that he didn’t want to change it. To fulfill his dream, Major Dominijanni tapped industry talent James Landis, who is known for successfully launching and growing brands like Hypnotiq. They were able to help recreate the taste, aroma, and smoothness of that original infinity blend, which is now Fior.

Operation Gratitude is an organization that provides opportunities for Americans to express their gratitude and show the U.S. Military and first responders that what they do matters. Founded in 2003, Operation Gratitude has sent more than four million care packages to active military members, including carefully chosen items meant to boost the morale and resilience of the U.S.  service members and give them warm reminders of home.

Major Dominijanni and his Marines received numerous care packages during his time and formed a friendship with Operation Gratitude’s founder, Carolyn Blashek. Fior’s $10,000 donation will mean Operation Gratitude can send more than 400 care packages to the military.

“We are honored to join forces with this fantastic U. S. Veteran-owned company in support of our mission to deliver Care Packages to our nation’s heroes, like we did to Major Dominijanni years ago,” said Carolyn Blashek, founder of Operation Gratitude.” I am honored to reconnect with one of our early Care Package recipients to make an even greater impact in the future.”

“We are incredibly grateful for Fior Scotch’s generous contribution to Operation Gratitude,” said Meg Barron, Executive Director of Operation Gratitude. “This unique partnership that allows us to work with a former Care Package recipient empowers us to expand our reach. Together, we can continue to uplift and honor our brave Service Members and First Responders.”

“I first met Carolyn during my second tour in Iraq. I have personally benefited from Operation Gratitude’s care packages on several deployments. Each one brought me great comfort, and I truly appreciate it.  I’m proud Fior can donate to this noble cause, and I hope it will go a long way for the organization,” said Major Dominijanni.

Fior has earned a number of impressive accolades since its 2023 inception, including a double gold medal at both the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and New York World Spirits Competition, a 93 rating at the The New York International Spirits Competition, a gold medal from Santé Magazine and a platinum rating at the Ascot Awards.

Fior Scotch is available in stores in New York, South Carolina, Texas and Georgia and online. For more on Fior Scotch, please visit www.fiorscotch.com.

Companies Sign Exclusive Distribution Agreement for Transwing® VTOL UAS in the UK, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates

Overwatch Group, a UK-based end-to-end design and manufacture company specialising in advanced unmanned system and munitions technologies, and PteroDynamics Inc., an innovator in vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft systems, today announced a landmark long-term strategic relationship and the first distribution agreement to bring the pioneering dual-use autonomous Transwing® (VTOL) to certain territories outside the United States. Overwatch will be the exclusive sales representative of the Transwing® unmanned aerial systems (UAS) aircraft on behalf of PteroDynamics within the United Kingdom (UK) for all non-commercial sales, and in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) for all prospective commercial and defence sales. Overwatch has also made a strategic investment in PteroDynamics.

As the first distributor for this technology, Overwatch will help expand the employment of the Transwing® aircraft platform outside the United States, starting in the UK, UAE, and KSA. Overwatch will bring its engineering expertise in unmanned systems and payloads to satisfy requirements for potential customers in these territories.

PteroDynamics’ Transwing® is a revolutionary VTOL aircraft system that overcomes the limitations inherent in other VTOL designs by marrying the speed, range, and endurance of fixed-wing aircraft with superior VTOL performance in an efficient, highly automated platform. The aircraft folds its wings to transition seamlessly between vertical and winged horizontal flight, requires no additional launch and recovery infrastructure, and occupies a minimal footprint, making it immediately ready for VTOL operations out of the box. Its unique performance characteristics provide defence and commercial operators with a more cost-effective, autonomous alternative for critical logistics resupply and other missions to remote locations without runways, which are currently undertaken by crewed aircraft, boats, or other less practical means.

Prototypes of the Transwing® are currently under assessment by the U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAVAIR NAWCAD) for the Blue Water Maritime Logistics UAS (BWUAS) program for automated long-range maritime resupply missions. Automating maritime logistics and resupply also represents a significant opportunity for commercial operators. Unplanned downtime of offshore oil and gas production results in average losses of U.S. $49M per year per producer, and nearly 100,000 commercial sea-going vessels of more than 100 gross tons make 4.4 million ports of call yearly, each time requiring deliveries prior to coming to port, which are costly and difficult to schedule.

Drew Michael, CEO at Overwatch Group said, “We are extremely proud to have secured our long- term strategic relationship with PteroDynamics. Both companies are dynamic engineering enterprises that design and manufacture unique, patented technology from the ground up. Our R&D of cutting-edge payload technologies continues to gather pace as we develop our next generation of drones, and we now wish to extend our expertise into wider markets. Having assessed the market, the Transwing® stood out as transformational dual-use technology, and the whole of Overwatch is excited by how we will enhance it.”

Matthew Graczyk, CEO at PteroDynamics said, “PteroDynamics’ ability to build successful working strategic relationships with leaders in our industry enables us to accelerate innovation and build the solutions that solve the critical unmet needs of our customers. Not only does Overwatch have deep domain experience in avionics and aero-mechanical engineering, but their ties with commercial and defence customers in the UK, KSA, and UAE will prove to be a game-changing advantage for both companies. We are excited to work closely with Overwatch and look forward to growing this important strategic relationship.”
