Rheinmetall Canada Awarded a Major Land C4ISR Program Support Contract by the Government of Canada

The Government of Canada has recently awarded Rheinmetall Canada a major support contract pertaining to Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance (ISTAR). The frame contract is currently worth up to CAD 57 million. The contract will take place over the next five years and will be expensed using a task mechanism over this period. The contract is part of the sustainment of the Land Command, Control, Communication, Computing, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) program and as the prime contractor, Rheinmetall Canada is to provide ISTAR in-service support services (ISS).

“At Rheinmetall Canada, we are delighted to provide an important part of the ISTAR program” said Mr. Ste?phane Oehrli, President and CEO of Rheinmetall Canada. “This contract represents a great opportunity to showcase our knowledge and capabilities in this high-end area of advanced technology”, he added. The ISTAR capabilities of the Rheinmetall Group are well established around the world.

The goal of the ISTAR ISS contract is to provide the Canadian Armed Forces with an ISTAR Command and Control Information System (C2IS) capability. Rheinmetall Canada will maintain and enhance the specialized capability through the support contract.

Rheinmetall Canada was selected under a competitive process where Value Proposition and the Industrial and Technological Benefit Policy (ITB) were applied. As one of the few companies to have reached over 1 billion dollars in ITB transactions since the inception of the policy, Rheinmetall Canada has put forward an outstanding Value Proposition. The Canadian supply chain of Rheinmetall Canada will benefit from this contract over the next years.

The 75th Jump with John “Shrek” McPhee

June 6th 1944 marks a very important day in world history, the Allied invasion of France during the second world war. The daring mission of Operation Overlord to establish a foothold along the Normandy coast would prove to be the largest amphibious invasions in history, and critical in freeing fortress Europe from the clutches of Nazi control.

This upcoming June is the 75th anniversary of the invasion, and precious few of the surviving veterans remain making this arguably one of the most important anniversaries to observe.

On the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, retired US Army Ranger and Special Forces Sergeant Major John “Shrek” McPhee will visit historic WWII sites with his brethren Rangers, to retrace the footsteps of the original Rangers and Paratroopers of that day.

At the end of this adventure, John will be re-enacting the D-day paratrooper jump with the Liberty Jump team.

When John started to plan this once in a lifetime trip, a lot of friends and students got excited, and wished they could go along. Obviously, we can’t all go but it got Shrek thinking. “Why not document the trip? Time is slipping away to hear about the exploits of our soldiers in their own words, and opportunities to have this many generations of Ranger in one place are nearly impossible.

John plans to film a full documentary showing the birthplace of the modern Rangers, and travel to Normandy to meet with Ranger Veterans from that day, the 2nd and 5th Ranger Battalion members that participated in the D-Day landings at Omaha Beach, Normandy, June 6, 1944. It was during the bitter fighting along the beaches that the Rangers gained their motto, “Rangers, lead the way!” as they conducted daring missions to include scaling the cliffs of Pointe Du Hoc, overlooking Omaha Beach, to destroy German gun emplacements trained on the beachhead.

SIG SAUER Honors Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Britt Slabinski with Commemorative MK25 Pistol and Documentary

NEWINGTON, N.H., (March 25, 2019) –In recognition of National Medal of Honor Day, SIG SAUER, Inc. is honored to announce the production and presentation of a commemorative MK25 pistol to Congressional Medal of Honor (CMH) recipient Command Master Chief (CMC) Britt Slabinski, and the release of a short documentary, “For Service As Set Forth: The Story of CMC Britt Slabinski, Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient.”

CMH Britt Slabinski, a U.S. Navy SEAL with the rank Command Master Chief, was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor on May 24, 2018 by President Donald Trump for his actions during the Battle of Takur Ghar in the mountains of Afghanistan. Slabinski is credited with rallying his teammates to rescue a stranded member of his team that had fallen from their helicopter after it was hit by enemy fire.

The unique distinguishing features of the commemorative MK25 pistol crafted by SIG Custom Works are:

• MK25 Pistol: the MK25, a SIG SAUER P226, was carried by the U.S. Navy SEALs throughout the service of Command Master Chief Britt Slabinski. The slide of the commemorative pistol is finished with a high polish to indicate the ceremonial presentation of the pistol, and the frame is a matte black finish, the original standard issue finish, as a nod to the warrior. All pistol engraving is done in 24k gold;

• Right Slide Engraving: the phrase “For Service As Set Forth,” which is the first line of the Congressional Medal of Honor Citation, and CMH Recipient Britt Slabinski;

Textron Systems Delivers Next-Generation Squad Weapon Technology Demonstrator

Prototype Based on Proven Cased-Telescoped Weapons and Ammunition Technology

HUNT VALLEY, Md. — MARCH 24, 2019 — Textron Systems, a business of Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT), announced today that it delivered the initial Next Generation Squad Weapon-Technology (NGSW-T) prototype demonstrator to the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) Armaments Center and Joint Services Small Arms Program (JSSAP). The automatic rifle prototype, based on the company’s proven Cased-Telescoped (CT) Weapons and Ammunition technology, is the first of five weapon demonstrators that Textron Systems will deliver for the program.

“Moving from contract award to delivery of a revolutionary, next-generation weapon in just 15 months not only demonstrates the maturity of our CT technology, but also the project execution excellence our team possesses to rapidly fill critical warfighter needs on schedule,” said Textron Systems Senior Vice President of Applied Technologies & Advanced Programs Wayne Prender. “Our CT weapons and ammunition offer the growth path to a true next-generation small arms weapon for U.S. warfighters, including increased lethality at longer ranges, while also delivering significant weight reductions to the warfighter.”

Technologies demonstrated by Textron Systems under the NGSW-T effort will inform the Army’s formal NGSW program and include weapon and ammunition weight reduction, weapon sound suppression, as well as fire control integration technology.

In 2018, Textron Systems also received a separate contract from the U.S. Army to develop a prototype weapon for the Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle- Prototype Opportunity Notice (NGSAR-PON) program and remains on track to demonstrate the weapon in June 2019.

In development since 2004, Textron Systems’ CT weapons and ammunition offer an innovative weapon design that increases lethality and reduces total system weight by up to 40 percent. Textron Systems has developed rifles, including automatic rifles, in a variety of configurations and calibers, including 5.56mm, 6.5mm, and 7.62mm, and is supporting the Army’s current efforts to revolutionize its small arms capability.

CMC Triggers Suppressed Optimized Bolt Carrier Group – Enhanced 223/556 AR15

Last week, I got a few hours at the 10th Annual USASOC Sniper Competition At Fort Bragg’s famous Range 37. One of the companies I spoke with was CMC Triggers who showed me their new Suppressed Optimized Bolt Carrier Group – Enhanced 223/556 AR15. It is a new version of their Enhanced Bolt Carrier Group but intended for use with suppressed rifles. Some suppressor optimized BCGs are so tuned, they only run when a suppressor is presemt. This one eas designed to still work, even when the suppressor is removed.

The flared rear of the enhanced bolt carrier is designed to reduce carrier tilt/cant during recoil and increasing reliability by strategically relocating key bearing surfaces.

The Bolt is “true” Mil Spec dimension and external surfaces are CNC ground after heat treat for a precision fit. These bolts are held to the highest possible tolerance possible. The “trumpet” area behind the gas rings, where carbon normally collects, is precision CNC Ground after heat treatment, to ensure as smooth of an area as possible, easing clean up, and longevity.

It features a Black Nitride Plus finish which you mave have also heard referred to as SBN (Salt bath nitride) and sometimes QPQ (quench polish quench). All of these are a form of nitrocarburizing which is a chemical hardening of steel.
