Nike Flyknit Technology

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Nike is introducing a new upper technology that resembles your grandmother’s crochet more than a running shoe. The ultralightweight Nike Flyknit combines yarns and fabric that are precisely engineered so that they only where they are needed. The result is a true minimalist shoe that is formfitting with a virtually seamless upper.

We’ve seen similar things done with clothing for years. It’s been done with for footwear with other materials as well such as leather. With the knitting, you can imagine how light it can be and yet maintain its strength.

Coming now from Nike.

Spartan Tactical

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Spartan Tactical is owned and operated by decorated combat veteran Jim Smith. Jim is a former US Army Special Ops Operator and has more than 25 years of tactical firearms instruction experience. Jim was the primary sniper in Blackhawk ‘Super 61’ during the “Blackhawk Down” incident in Mogadishu, Somalia for which he was awarded the Sliver Star and Purple Heart. He is a certified FBI Combatives Instructor, Federal Firearms Instructor and a SOTIC Certified Sniper Instructor. Jim and his team have trained numerous US military units and foreign military units along with both state and federal law enforcement agencies. However, due to the drawdown in deployments, Spartan Tactical is adapting with the market and introducing civilian training and hunting courses.

This video is an example of a 3-day long-range precision shooting course hosted by Grey Group Training. As you can imagine, this is Jim’s forte and it will give you an idea of the level of instruction Spartan Tactical provides. Regardless of the type of training, the courses consist of classes followed by demonstrations, training and practice.

Additionally, Spartan Tactical has its own range complex, located on a 17 square-mile ranch in a remote area of Texas that boasts similar terrain to Africa or Afghanistan.

Mountain States Tactical Officers Association is hosting their 2012 conference 7-10 May 2012 at Ft Harrison in historic Helena, Montana. Some of you might recognize that location as where the US-Canadian First Special Service Force was stood up.

In addition to the vendor show and usual admin meetings of the MSTOA, they are hosting some serious training opportunities.

Rob Clare with Triangle Experience Group (former Air Force PJ and Army Special Operations) putting on a Street Fighting Course
Rod Alne with The Peak Inc (former PJ) putting on a Mountain Operations Course
Bennie Cooley with INL (winner of every shooting event there is) putting on a tactical pistol and carbine course
Shawn Lewis of ITI, a former Ranger will be teaching an Urban Sniper Course

For LE, access to this level of training is a steal, under $200 for 3-1/2 days of training.

Magnum Intrepid HPi

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

We’ve mentioned the Magnum Intrepid HPi running shoe a couple of times, but it’s been the MultiCam variant. Today, we want to show you their Black model that most of us would wear while PTing. One of the things we like about the shoe is the incorporation of Magnum’s ion-mask technology. It’s a nano-technology waterproof surface treatment that keeps the shoe itself from absorbing water. It also features a dual-density midsole with a 3D counterbalance for stability even on trails and a Seamless Upper Zone Engineering (SUZE) upper design that mixes weave patterns to mold to the contours of your foot. Available in US sizes 7-12 and 13.

TacHacker – ‘Make’ Issue 29

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

‘Make” magazine number 29 (DIY Superhuman) is out on newsstands and focuses on one of our favorite TacHacker subjects; the Body. For us, one of the coolest articles is ‘Tacit: A Haptic Wrist Rangefinder.’ The concept is a wrist mounted rangefinder that gives feedback that you can feel in your hand. The closer the object you are ranging, the greater the pressure on your wrist. Projects like this may well inspire someone to develop the next ‘must have.’ Whether you are a part or full time tinkerer or just have a passing interest in DIY, ‘Make’ magazine is a must read.

Will Brink, the man behind Optimal SWAT has released a new book, ‘The Sports Supplement Bible.’ It covers over 60 supplement ingredients used to create many well known sports supplements. I’ve known Will for years and he has always been forthright and with over 20 years in the body building industry, he knows a thing or two on the subject.

Be sure to visit Will’s website for the book, www.sportssupplementbible.com where he talks about the book and shares several videos like the one above. So far it is available for Nook and Kindle and now hard-copy print version.
