Safariland – Advanced Webless System

Monday, May 5th, 2014

During Warrior West, we got to take a closer look at Safarialnd’s Advanced Webless System. Brought to market under the Protech Tactical Armor line, it utilizes the HANK poly-fabric, an abrasion resistant FR fabric that incorporates laser cut holes that accept PALS compatible pouches.

This article is by no means definitive of what Safariland has created but we wanted to give you couple of candid shots of the technology that they have incorporated into their Soldier Protection System entry. Currently in source selection, SPS is a Multi-year technology demonstration tool used by PEO Soldier to identify promising Soldier Systems technology for outright fielding or integration a enhancements to currently fielded systems.

Safariland has also introduced the Advanced Webless System into a line of commercially available vests. As you can see, they’ve put a lot of thought into these designs which are completely scalable from simple plate carrier to integrated cummerbund to dictionary add-ons to enhance survivability.

Look for additional, behind-the-scenes coverage soon.

Juggernaut Defense – Wedge Radio Dock

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014

During last week’s Warrior Expo Juggernaut Defense showed me the latest iteration of their Wedge Radio Dock. It’s based on a system they’ve been using and improving over the past several years. I really like the attachment system that interfaces directly with PALs webbing.

20140429-203149.jpg

The Wedge.Radio.Dock™ was designed to directly attach any “bottom-battery” style tactical radio to a dismounted warfighter’s kit and provide a battery eliminator interface for connecting larger capacity batteries for extended mission performance. The patent pending PPIP (Polymer PALS Interface Plate) directly attaches to the armor eliminating the need for a radio pouch. The increased thermal conductivity of the radio’s surface allows the radio to run much cooler addressing the issue of overheating radios.

20140429-203440.jpg

A BOA® closure cable secures the radio up against the PPIP and allows for many radio sizes and thicknesses to be attached. This also protects the radio keypad and display against the PPIP but still allows access to the HMI by simply releasing the BOA® reel and hinging the radio out from the armor, without disconnecting and cables or antennas.

20140429-203819.jpg

The Wedge.Radio.Dock™ is IP-67 dust/immersion rated, MIL-STD-810G, and MIL-STD-461 qualified. A 24″ cable from the Radio.Dock terminates in a Glenair plug and connects to any Nett Warrior style battery (Li-145 or Conformal style) or to a 25/5590 battery with the X590-C adapter offered by Juggernaut Defense. Voltage input range is 9-35VDC. Compatible radios include: Thales MBITR/MBITR2 (including Mission Modules), Wave Relay MPU-4, Harris AN/PRC-152A/7800T, L3 SIR 2.5 Tac Rover, and Coastal Defense MVR-IV.

Warrior Expo – Adams Industries/Norotos Inc RHNO II Helmet Mount

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

Adams Industries shared their booth with the guys from Norotos, makers of night vision mounting systems. Based in Southern California, I enjoying seeing them each year at Warrior West. They’re both great companies with great products. You’ve probably seen one of Norotos’ shrouds such as the Universal Shroud. Last year, they won part of the Army helmet mount contract with the RHNO II seen here. Yes, it is being delivered in this Grey metal color.

20140429-105419.jpg

The single most important thing about this mount is that the patented “Glide-right” mechanism is infinitely adjustable within the limits of its range in both the vertical and horizontal planes. No more notches. You can get the device exactly where you want it.

Above you can see the Dovetail Mounting System in a Universal Shroud. It is available in both Horn (J arm) and Dovetail versions.

Warrior Expo – Kopis Mobile

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

Our friends at Kopis Mobile showed us the latest version of their NTtv which allows users to share imagery from networked cameras.

Network Tactical Television is a portable, scalable and low cost video sharing system that combines Commercially available, Off The Shelf (COTS) digital camera and palmtop, mobile computing, or smart phone equipment with Kopis Mobile’s integration solution to provide users with a unique view of the operational mission. They do this by creating their own WiFi mesh network or connecting to tactical 4G LTE networks or tactical wave relay radios.

20140429-083727.jpg

Although Kopis can adapt the NTtv technology to most any camera and handheld devices, they’ve created a turnkey solution which you see above. This is great for those organizations who haven’t fielded anything yet and are starting a new capability. It includes cameras, smart phones, video encoder, and battery as well as the pouches to integrate the solution unto armor or other load carrying platforms.

Warrior West – Excel Wetsuits Launches Thermal Dry Celliant

Thursday, April 24th, 2014

I got a chance to check out a prototype of the new Thermal Dry Celliant wetsuit from Excel during last Fall’s Uber University. I was impressed.

20140424-130532.jpg

Excel has adopted an entirely new next-to-skin material provided by Celliant which offers heat reflective properties; very important for wetsuits. It also helps to mitigate diver fatigue.

In addition to the new material story, Excel also is the exclusive offerer of Crocodile color from Arc’teryx.

20140424-130618.jpg

These new suits also incorporate design features normally found in surf suits meaning more flexibility for these dive suits. Once again, very helpful for combat divers. They are offering these in 4 thicknesses – 3.5mil, 5.4 mil, 7.6 mil and 8.76 mil. Offered in full suits, shorties, farmer johns and hoods.

Made in USA in Hale Iwa, Hawaii. Available now.
