As Radical’s David Spector notes,

“This give us unmatched levels of quality control and allows us to build boutique quality rifles for everyman prices.”

You will not the KeyMod rails on RF rifles are set up differently than some manufacturers. This came about due to a request by a Federal agency.

“We run them like this as a fail safe so gear doesn’t fall off accidentally. Have you ever smacked your accessory up against a door frame on a regular rail? Bye bye accessory! You don’t have to worry about that with our rails.”

Spuhr Talks Mil Std 1913

Sunday, March 6th, 2016

This was written by Håkan Spuhr and I thought it was worth sharing.

Top is NATO drawing of Stanag 4694, the backcompatible replacement for picatinny Mil-std 1913.

Lower is one “so called picatinny” and there is a lot of those violations of standard out there.

To put it simple, crossslots should be minimum 5.23mm and square in bottom and there should be 10mm C-C betwen them.

If there not is that, it’s not a Picatinny, and not a NATO rail either!

And it does matter if God’s own Armoury have produced the rail, it’s simply wrong!

IWA – H&K Releases New Firearms

    Saturday, March 5th, 2016

Heckler & Koch unveiled several new German-legal semiautomatic firearms at IWA. These are some of the coolest guns you can’t have in the US.

The release included a civilian variant of the MP-5, referred to as the SP5. Versions included a Picatinny rail as well as a fixed stock.

There was also an USC model of the UMP in .45.

Additionally, H&K displayed a G-36 version called the HK243 S SAR which comes with a folding stock. Available in Black as well as RAL8000 (Tan), they’ve also introduced a STANAG Magwell for the semi-auto rifle. The HK243 S TAR for Tactical Automatic Rifle offers a foldable and retractable stock as well as a slim line hand guard. Both models incorporate a Picatinny sight rail but the HK 243 S TAR’s slim line hand guard features a STANAG 4949 rail at the top and MIL-STD 1913 rail at the bottom as well as HKey slots. The S TAR modifications are also offered as a retrofit kit.

    Finally, they had the MR223 A3 in 11″, 14.5″ and 16.5″ lengths.

Available in both Black as well as RAL8000, they feature the most modern upgrades to the HK416 including NATO STANAG 4179 (draft) Magwell, Ambidextrous Bolt Catch and Slimeline Handguard with HKey slots and STANAG 4949 rail at the top and MIL-STD 1913 rail at the bottom.

This is a Picatinny compatible vertical foregrip that contains a knife. Offered by TAT3D, the Sharp Grip Knife is considered a last ditch weapon that will stay with your rifle.

As you can see, it’s offered in quite a few configurations including an angled grip as well as a non-metallic blade.

    IWA – Sport Systeme Dittrich’s SG-11, a Modernized FG-42

    Friday, March 4th, 2016

This is a pretty cool item I ran across here at IWA, spying it out of the corner of my eye as I walked through the aisles. My brain screamed “FG-42” but something wasn’t quite right. I stopped and asked the man at the booth what it was and sure enough, he told me it was a modernized FG-42. Turns out, the guy I was talking to was Bernd Dittrich and it was his company. Aesthetically the rifle is different, but it retains the same operating system as well as a few classic design cues. The name is different as well, being referred to as a Sturm Gewehr rather than a Fallschirmjäger Gewehr.

Chambered in .308 rather than the original 7.92x57mm, the rifle is offered in two length, SG-11 (320mm barrel) and SG-12 (500mm barrel). You’ll notice there added a full length Picatinny rail above the barrel as well as a section below the barrel.

As you can see, it utilizes the original-style magazine which Sport Systeme Dittrich manufactures.

The SG-11 utilizes a folding charging handle but unfortunately, it’s on the right side of the gun, making the manual of arms a bit awkward. I do like that they incorporated an AR-style grip, but I’m not a fan of the CAA model they included kn the display guns. While the stock is inspired by the original sillhouette of the FG-42, accommodation for an AR-style stock would be interesting.

Additionally, they offer an SG-13 which is chambered for the 7.62x54R cartridge. They also manufacture working reproduction firearms. A sampling is seen below. Unfortunately, these are not yet available in the US but Herr Dittrich told me he has been scouting factory locations.
