Panteao Productions introduces the first in a series of Make Ready videos from Matt Jacques.

When you make the decision to carry a firearm for self-defense it’s a good idea to have a solid foundation in the fundamentals. In this video Matt Jacques walks you through all the fundamentals of everyday carry in a step by step approach. Matt is a retired police officer and a Marine Corps veteran. He served with two Virginia law enforcement agencies as well as a Special Deputy of the US Marshal Capital Area Fugitive Task Force for the Washington DC area. Today Matt trains both law enforcement personnel and civilians under his company, Victory First.

In this video, Matt reviews the different handgun options and ancillary equipment, holsters and belts, carry positions, clearing a cover garment, cover garment modifications, the grip, draw, and presentation, loads and reloads, dealing with multiple targets, drills you should practice, and more.

The video will be available on DVD and online streaming by March 1st.

There’s Still Time to Pre-Register for GLOCK ID

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Just as SHOT Show opened, GLOCK launched pre-registration for their Online Community, GLOCK ID. Their initial goal was 10,000 members and having already exceeded that number, they’ve extended this pre-registration offer to 20,000.

“GLOCK ID pre-registration popularity has shown our fans are eager for more dialogue with each other and with GLOCK,” explained Josh Dorsey, GLOCK Vice President. “Expanding the pool of pre-registrants to 20,000 is an exciting step in the path to the launch date in just a few short weeks. Those who have pre-registered will have exclusive early access to the community, before it’s opened to the general public at a later date.”

GLOCK ID offers members several key components:

a virtual gun safe to keep track of range time, cleaning dates and more;
training lessons;
a community Q&A for peer discussion;
an engaging process for earning points and ‘patches’ to rank up and earn GLOCK rewards.

GLOCK ID members have the opportunity to contribute and participate with other GLOCK enthusiasts while earning points, which ultimately lead to GLOCK rewards that can only be earned by interacting with GLOCK ID and its members.

The ranks and rewards structure encourages competition and engagement. By participating in various activities (watching a training video, answering fellow members’ questions, logging time at the range, etc.), members of GLOCK ID can earn patches. Those patches translate into points, which then designate a member’s rank within the community. Finally, those rank levels determine tangible rewards from GLOCK.

This new shooting mat from Crosstac is a lightweight version of their popular long range shooting mats. Called the Recon, it weighs only 1.2 lbs and is made of two layers of 500D Cordura and rolls to a compact 14″ x 3″ size for transportation and storage. The cool thing about this mat is that one side is MultiCam and the other is A-TACS AU. Additionally, both sides incorporate a channel for your bipod.

Geissele Automatics SHOT Show Follow Up

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

In this week’s Canipe Correspondence, he mentioned four new products from Geissele Automatics. Fortunately, our friend SMG Lee took some great photos of these items.

Geissele SMR MKIV rail. I was an early adopter of the Geissele hand guard for the HK416, and I have a few each of the MKI and MKII rails for the AR series. The MKIV version utilizes a lightened barrel nut and a slimmed down hand guard that is skeletonized to remove all unneeded material, while still maintaining the strength the previous variants are known for. It has fixed rails at the front where you need them, QD cups for sling attachment, and is trimmed down for a low profile and firm grip everywhere else. They also showed a new gas block that will be my new standard, and a Glock optic mount and magazine well under their ALG brand. Look for those soon as well.

First off is the new gas block.

Here you can compare the new Mk IV rail with the Super Rail released last year.

And here it is from the top.

SMG Lee had this to say about the new rail –

Few points of interest…
1. the enlarged cooling slots are to reduce weight while not giving up any rigidity
2. the new collar for the lock bolts are design to be foolproof, so if you happen to strip the threads on the locking collar, you can always have it replaced instead of having to replace the entire rail.
3. the light weight barrel nut has been through a patented anodizing process that is only used in high friction automotive components, this process enable Geissele to produce a lighter and more durable end product.
4. Build in sling QD swivel points
5. Relief cuts all around the rail to lighten even more weight.
6. the rail to receiver interface are redesigned to maintain the rigid interface but at the same time reduce more weight.

Overall, this is one of the BEST rail design i have seen in a long time, it is definitely worth your investment for your next carbine build.

Next up is the new 6 Second Mount named, according to SMG Lee, by a…

unit that conduct a lot of hostage rescue work. this was requested for work in long and confined hallway such as a fuselage….6 second to get in and engaged and eliminate threat on demand…..

And here is the new Magwell.

SHOT Show – Spuhr AB

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Håkan Spuhr showed me his developmental AR-style buttstock adapter and modular handguard for the G3 rifle.

Spuhr Buttstock Adapter

This adapter gets rid of that damnable hump and offers not only the AR-style collapsible stock but more stability in dealing with recoil. Additionally, new sighting options open up due to the new sight plane.

Spuhr G3 Modular Handguard

This handguard introduces modularity to the 1950s design of the widely used G3.
