Ultralightweight Yet Super-Strong Plate Carrier MX244 for Military and Police Special-Forces Goes On Sale 27 April, Says Lindnerhof-Taktik

April 27th, 2022

LENGGRIES, GERMANY (25 April 2022)—Maker of high-quality tactical gear systems Lindnerhof-Taktik today announced it will this week begin offering its new MX244 Ultralight Plate Carrier for purchase.

The MX244—set to go on sale Wednesday—is the first of an entire line of Lindnerhof-Taktik products made with the company’s innovative Multiaxial Laminate MX material, notable for its extreme low weight and astonishing strength, said Lindnerhof CEO Jakob Kolbeck.

“We’re very confident that the military and police special-forces teams for whom the MX244 is designed will find it an indispensable piece of equipment,” Kolbeck said, adding that the carrier is designed to serve as a grid for toting SAPI L-sized plates.

“There are many reasons why we believe the MX244 will quickly become a bestseller, but two of the most important are its exceptional durability and it weighs only 450 grams,” Kolbeck continued. “In fact, until the MX244 came along, there’s never been a more reliable, lightweight option for carrying plates.”

Lindnerhof founder Josef Sixt added that the advanced-technology Multiaxial Laminate MX material used in the manufacture of the MX244 has very low water absorbency characteristics. Moreover, he said, the option exists for covering the carried plates with fully camouflaged sleeves.

“Although the MX244 Plate Carrier is a cutting-edge product, we incorporated many of our classic, time-tested, and field-proven features,” Sixt offered. “For example, we took our patented hook buckle for securely closing shoulder straps and waist belts and translated it into an extra-slim version, one that would stay more out of the way of the user’s weapon system, provide additional space along the waist belt, and yet clasp just as rock-solidly as the original hook buckle.”

Kolbeck said an objective in developing the MX244 was creation of a plate carrier that would allow users to quickly add accessories. Accordingly, the company has timed the debut of its MX244 to coincide with the launch of several Lindnerhof-Taktik accessory items.

These are:

• Front Panels (MX233 Velcro® Panel, MX231 Panel Front, MX234 Multi-Calibre front Panel)

• Carrying Sling (MX106 Single Point Velcro® Sling)

• Next-generation Multi-Calibre Pouches (MX119 Multi-Calibre Rifle Mag Pouch, MX519 Multi-Calibre SMG Mag Pouch)

• Slim Belt Grid (MX560 Modular Belt Grid)

“Common to the plate carrier and the accessory items—beyond being made with Multiaxial Laminate MX—is their extreme functionality and modularity,” Kolbeck said. “Consider, for instance, the new MX560 Belt Grid. It’s a laser-cut sleeve-grid. But as soon as it’s wrapped around our Tactical Harness [1000551 Edelrid Gürtel], the harness transforms into a slim, super-lightweight war belt. Extra slots stably attach it to common holster systems including Blackhawk, Safariland, and G-Code, as well as to other items.

“As for the MX231 Front Panel, it can carry three magazines for rifles ranging from the AR15 on up to the HK417. Both it and the MX234 Multi-Calibre Front Panel attach to the MX244 Plate Carrier by means of Velcro® fasteners and/or with an included pair of click-it-to-attach MOLLE buckles for faster gearing up.

“And, of course, all of the new products include other outstanding Lindnerhof features such as cable management, patch areas, and size adjusters.”

The MX244 Plate Carrier and most of its accessories (unveiled in March at the at Enforce Tac and IWA 2022 trade shows held in Nuremberg, Germany) will for now be available in only two colours—coyote and stone grey. The company said black will be offered later, as will the camouflage patterns MultiCam and 5fb Flecktarn.

Meanwhile, Kolbeck provided a sneak-peek at a coming capability of the MX231 and MX234 panels. “In additional to their classic functionality, the front panels also can form the basis of a fully configured and ready-to-use micro-rig, but we’ll have more about that in the next few months,” he revealed.?

All the Lindnerhof-Taktik products coming available for purchase this week reflect a recently adopted strategy of developing and rolling out new items with greater frequency.

“We create roughly a thousand prototypes of new products each year, but our goal now is to bring more of them to customers and to do so on a more consistent basis,” Kolbeck said.

DoD IG Releases Report on Audit of the Army’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System

April 27th, 2022

The Department of Defense Office of the Inspector General has released their report on an audit to determine whether Army officials effectively managed the Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) program to meet user needs.

IVAS is a $21.88 Billion program to field a militarized version of Microsoft’s HoloLens. Modifications were based on seven requirements that enhance the Soldier’s decisions and capabilities to execute combat tasks with speed and precision identified by the Soldier lethality cross-functional team: communication, lethality, mobility, protection, situational awareness, survivability, and training and human performance.

This program is so important to the Army that it even has its own Program Manager under PEO Soldier. During development PM IVAS used Soldier Centered Design during multiple testing events in the IVAS rapid prototyping phase. This process is intended to ensure that Soldier needs are considered when making design tradeoffs and production decisions.  A core metric is user acceptance.

Unfortunately, the IG found that program officials did not define minimum user acceptance levels to determine whether IVAS would meet user needs because Army policy does not require program officials to define suitable user acceptance levels.

Consequently, the IG recommends that the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology) develop Army?wide policy requiring program officials to define suitable user acceptance measurements for testing and evaluation.

Furthermore, they also recommend that the Program Executive Officer Soldier define clear measures of user acceptance levels to meet user needs before Soldier Touch Point?5 testing of IVAS.  In addition, they recommend that the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology), as the decision authority for IVAS, verify whether the Program Executive Office Soldier meets established user acceptance measures and addresses Soldier?identified issues before IVAS production.

This should help satisfy those who feel that the program is moving too quickly, is technologically immature, or does not have Soldier buy-in.

Air Mobility Command Reopens Space-Available Travel

April 27th, 2022

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (AFNS) —

As of April 22, all restrictions on space-available (Space-A) travel have been lifted.

The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense temporarily suspended most Space-A travel aboard Air Mobility Command and contracted aircraft, effective March 21, 2020 in order to limit COVID-19’s spread and impact on the force.

Medical screening protocols may still apply for travelers heading outside the contiguous United States (OCONUS). Members traveling to a foreign country will need to follow any testing requirements listed within the Electronic Foreign Clearance Guide.

This reopening permits Space-A travel for uniformed service members, retirees, dependents and Reservists to travel within the continental United States and outside the continental United States, if space allows.

Per Department of Defense policy, if necessary, Space-A travel limitations can be reinstated to help stop the spread of any future outbreaks of COVID-19. Mobility aircrew readiness is paramount to ensuring the Department is postured to project mobility airpower and global reach.

ARLINGTON, Va., April 26, 2022 –AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in intelligent, multi-domain robotic systems, today announced the successful maritime demonstration of Interoperability to Interchangeability (I2I) operations by the U.S. Navy and Royal Navy using AeroVironment’s Puma™ 3 AE small unmanned aircraft systems. The demonstration was part of a combined event – International Maritime Exercise 2022/Cutlass Express 2022 (IMX/CE 22) – that took place from Feb. 6-17, 2022.

IMX/CE 22 is the largest maritime exercise in the Middle East with more than 60 partner nations and organizations participating with 9,000 personnel and 50 ships. IMX/CE 22 was also the largest maritime unmanned systems exercise to date with more than 80 unmanned systems, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned surface vessels (USVs) and unmanned undersea vehicles (UUVs).

The I2I capability demonstration was supported by AeroVironment as part of the U.S. 5th Fleet’s Task Force 59 team, denoted as Task Force X (TF-X), participating in IMX/CE 22. TF-X was comprised of various multinational government and industry partners working together to integrate and demonstrate new unmanned systems capabilities for U.S. and coalition naval forces in a series of pre-planned serials.

During the exercise, AeroVironment’s Blue Hotel computer vision and analytics solution demonstrated the visual identification of maritime targets simultaneously from multiple UAV and USV video feeds in real-time during all of the TF-X serials. It was also used by the U.S. Navy as the primary video repository and distribution hub for TF-X, providing all coalition partners with access to real-time video feeds and artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) analytic results for Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA). The advanced AI/ML software enabled the warfighters to quickly sift through the large amounts of video data, pinpointing individual vessels of interest, and providing real time information on their activities throughout the exercise.

“Built upon past demonstrations, such as REP(MUS) 21 and 2018 U.S. Navy Coastal Riverine Craft maritime S2S exercises, these successful I2I operations coupled with Blue Hotel’s automated target recognition and MDA capabilities offer a glimpse at the maritime and autonomy product capability expansions AeroVironment’s MacCready Works Advanced Solutions team is spearheading,” said Jeff Rodrian, AeroVironment vice president of AV Ventures.
