March 25th, 2019Back in September of 2017 we showed you Geissele Automatics‘ developmental Very longrange Semi Automatic Sniper System or VSASS for short in 260 Remington. At the time it looked like that caliber would become the next SOCOM intermediate cartridge. But things turned out differently and SOF selected the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge.
Geissele has continued working on the VSASS, but in 6.5 CM and exhibited it during last week’s 10th Annual USASOC Sniper Competition on Ft Bragg’s Range 37.
It’s outfitted with Geissele’s Super Night Owl Suppressor. You can also see the adjustable gas block.
Internally, multiple components are coated with Durable Solid Lubricant by Nano-Composite Coating.
The Bolt Carrier features axial stability enhancements and has a raised gas key, for improved wear. Additionally, they strengthened the upper receiver for improved stiffness near the lengthened Barrel Extension and added a hardened steel Cam race.
Additionally, the Maritime Bolt Catch for the VSASS is made from billet.

March 25th, 2019Modern Tactical Creations was founded by two SF NCOs to create solutions to problems found at the operator and team level. We’ve mentioned a few of their products including the Suppressor Shield.
They are currently working on an insulated Handguard which is an extension of their Suppressor Shield.
It is a carbon fiber construction which will minimize mirage, cool the barrel naturally, and protect the operator.

Max Talk Monday: Texas Class 2019 Break Contact Flank (Right) Team Drill
March 25th, 2019This is the fifteenth installment of ‘Max Talk Monday’ which shares select episodes from a series of instructional videos. Max Velocity Tactical (MVT) has established a reputation on the leading edge of tactical live fire and force on force training. MVT is dedicated to developing and training tactical excellence at the individual and team level.
Break Contact Flank (Right) Team Drill is video footage of a team break contact drill conducted at the Texas Class 2019. This was a team level live fire training exercise with simulated enemy to the right side of the trail. As some are likely to point out, the team was moving on a trail, and a rolling (multi-target) contact is simulated from the right side, in order to keep the peel going for longer for training benefit. Utilizing a trail is an effective training aid because the route in is clearly markedly / recognizable; moving back along same is the drill for getting out of the contact – back along the route already traveled. The drill shown is the immediate action drill, which can be subsequently modified by leadership if required due to increased complexity of the situation. However, it is important to have a drilled, violent, effective immediate action drill to maximize the chances of surviving a contact such as this.
Max is a tactical trainer and author, a lifelong professional soldier with extensive military experience. He served with British Special Operations Forces, both enlisted and as a commissioned officer; a graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Max served on numerous operational deployments, and also served as a recruit instructor. Max spent five years serving as a paramilitary contractor in both Iraq and Afghanistan; the latter two years working for the British Government in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

CMC Triggers Suppressed Optimized Bolt Carrier Group – Enhanced 223/556 AR15
March 25th, 2019Last week, I got a few hours at the 10th Annual USASOC Sniper Competition At Fort Bragg’s famous Range 37. One of the companies I spoke with was CMC Triggers who showed me their new Suppressed Optimized Bolt Carrier Group – Enhanced 223/556 AR15. It is a new version of their Enhanced Bolt Carrier Group but intended for use with suppressed rifles. Some suppressor optimized BCGs are so tuned, they only run when a suppressor is presemt. This one eas designed to still work, even when the suppressor is removed.
The flared rear of the enhanced bolt carrier is designed to reduce carrier tilt/cant during recoil and increasing reliability by strategically relocating key bearing surfaces.
The Bolt is “true” Mil Spec dimension and external surfaces are CNC ground after heat treat for a precision fit. These bolts are held to the highest possible tolerance possible. The “trumpet” area behind the gas rings, where carbon normally collects, is precision CNC Ground after heat treatment, to ensure as smooth of an area as possible, easing clean up, and longevity.

USASOC Team Wins 10th Annual USASOC Sniper Competition
March 25th, 2019Now in its 10th year, a team representing the United States Army Special Operations Command won the 2019 USASOC Sniper Competition, held last week at Fort Bragg’s Range 37.
The second place team also represents USASOC, with the third place overall coming from the US Marine Corps’ School Sniper School.
We do not have the scores nor the overall standing of the 18 other two-man teams which represented US and international services. But, we do have a gallery of images taken during the Competition by the USAJFK Special Warfare Center and School. Many of the firearms used in the comp are personally owned.
