Stone Glacier Announces Ultralight Military/Tactical Pack

August 7th, 2017

Stone Glacier, an industry leader in ultralight backpacks, has developed and launched the R3 3300. A unique pack catered to the tactical and military markets based on Stone Glacier’s core principle of designing ultralight packs without using any ultralight materials.

The R3 (Response/Recon/Rescue) is a product of organic development says Stone Glacier owner and designer, Kurt Racicot. “We were approached by a few various individuals who had been using our hunting line of packs on different deployments and they loved them. The overall weight and design features were unique and not available from other pack manufactures. The consistent feedback was that if we just changed a couple of minor things and developed a few unique features for combat use our packs would be exactly what they were looking for. So, we did it. And the result is the R3 line of packs and accessories.”

The R3 is a modular design that can go from 3,300 cubic inches to 6,300 cubic inches offering customization of up to 8 detachable interior pockets, Stone Glacier’s unique Load Shelf, internal top molle grid for additional PALS pockets or radio carry and a top storm flap in the main bag for cable and antenna routing. Additionally, the R3 line of accessories includes a Conceal Lid to allow the internal concealed carry of carbines up to 33.5” collapsed OAL and the unique 240 Panel which attaches to the frame for quick access to eight 30 round magazines, all weight supported by the frame.

The R3 3300 is offered in Coyote Brown and Tan 499 and boasts an empty weight of only 4.55lbs. It is constructed of all Berry Compliant components and is proudly designed and manufactured in the USA. “We’ve cut no corners with this pack” says Stone Glacier CEO Jeff Sposito, “We’ve used only the best materials including proven Cordura® 500 D, YKK zippers and Duraflex buckles just to name a few. The response and feedback so far has been great and we are very excited to expand the R3 offering and continue to build products that meet the needs of the most demanding users.”

The R3 3300 is available now, direct from www.stoneglacier.com and is priced at $594 (MSRP). Contact Stone Glacier directly for more information at (406) 404-0641 or visit their showroom at 608 W Griffin Dr., Unit A, Bozeman MT 59715.

Hill People Gear – longhouse: Land Navigation

August 7th, 2017

I fully admit that I love the company Hill People Gear, their products, and what they do. It’s things like their longhouse series of videos that fuel that admiration. This one is near and dear to my heart. Land navigation is a skill anyone who spends time in the outdoors needs to develop and practice. Electronics are great, but they rely on power. You never know when the batteries may go dead for the day, a week, or God forbid, a lifetime. This video offers an introduction to land navigation including maps, orienting a map, three methods for locating your position on a map, planning a route, and executing a route.

Even though resources like this exist on the web, actually learn how to do things. Don’t think you’re going to rely on a web-based resource to teach you a skill in the back country, when you need it. Chances are good you won’t have a connection.

August 7th, 2017

St. Charles, MO — How do you take the function and form of a bestselling pant and make it even better? Introducing RevTac, an updated take on Propper’s flagship Lightweight Tactical Pant.

“We wanted to create a pant that didn’t scream tactical, yet offered the functional features everyone who wears tactical pants is looking for,” said Joe Ruggeri, Senior Vice President of Merchandising and Product Development. “Customers have been asking for a more streamlined look that didn’t sacrifice function, and we think RevTac delivers.”

Lightweight and durable, the new low profile RevTac comes in six colors of tough, yet comfortable 6.4 ounce 65/35 poly-cotton ripstop fabric – the same tried and true blend as the Lightweight Tactical Pant with Teflon™ soil and stain repellent – and features a streamlined appearance with rounded edges to look less tactical.

Low profile details include welt back pockets, two hip knife pockets, and rounded pocket flaps on the legs. For maximum function, ambidextrous pockets with internal dividers offer the space needed for mags, flashlights, and other essential gear. Comfort comes from a gusseted crotch and a slider waistband, while a hidden gripper strip keeps shirts tucked in to maintain a professional demeanor.

RevTac is available in men’s classic fit and women’s modern fit, both with the same great features and color selection.

BioLite SolarHome 620

August 7th, 2017

At the recent Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, BioLite gave everyone a sneak peek of their new SolarHome 620 system. It consists of control box, 6w solar panel, motion sensor security light and two ceiling mounted lights. Designed to produce household power for off-the-grid dwelllings in India and West Africa, it will work just as well for those who have hunting cabins, DIY van campers and have to set up regularly in austere areas.

The heart if this system is this control box which not only gives real-time feedback on power, but also serves as an light, MP3 player and terrestrial radio.

They’ve already deployed thousands of these systems in emerging markets, and they plan to launch it here in the Spring. However, a limited run of 500 will be offered in November. Based on the existing deployments of the SolarHome 620, the World Bank has issued this spec sheet which gives some realistic performance data.
