The Magpul PMAG 30 AK/AKM MOE Magazine Is Shipping In Time For SHOT Show!

January 9th, 2014

Magpul started teasing us last year with an AK mag. Now, here they are.

Magpul 30 rd AK Mag

The Magpul PMAG 30 AK MOE is a lightweight, 30-round polymer magazine for 7.62×39 Kalashnikov pattern rifles (AK-47, AKM, AKS, SIG556R and others.) It features a removable floorplate, constant curve geometry, and a high-reliability/low-friction follower for the affordable performance you expect from a MOE PMAG. Interestingly, they don’t feature metal locking lugs making a lot of folks skeptical at this stage. With my luck they’ll sell out while I’m at SHOT and OR.

More New Products Coming from ALG Defense

January 9th, 2014

Forged Sling Swivel

In addition to the Ergonomic Modular Rail being unveiled at SHOT Show, ALG Defense will also be releasing a great accessory for it, the new Forged Sling Swivel (FSS). The FSS weighs in at roughly 0.5 ounces and is about half the weight of similar steel QD sling swivel assemblies. It is forged from 7075 T6 aluminum, which is the same aluminum and manufacturing process used to make mil-spec upper and lower receivers. This process allows the FSS to be very strong and can withstand pull forces of up to 800lbs. The body of the FSS is type 3 hardcoated for a durable finish, while the button is Black Nitride processed. Initially black will be the only color option with gray soon to follow. The FSS will retail at 32$!

Single Chamber Brake

Also debuting at SHOT is the Single Chamber Brake (SCB) which is a 5.56mm brake that is machined from 4140 chrome moly steel and is Black Nitride processed for wear and corrosion resistance. Most importantly the SCB will be retailing at $35!

Sneak Peek – Petzl TACTIKKA + (RGB)

January 9th, 2014

Petzl will be unveiling their new TACTIKKA + headlamp at SHOT Show. Featuring CONSTANT LIGHTING technology which means the light’s brightness does not decrease gradually as the 3 x AAA batteries are drained. It offers a maximum brightness of 100 lumens over a distance of 45 meters. With boost mode it gives temporary access to a brightness of 125 lumens (50 meters).

In addition to red filtered light as well as bright light, the TACTIKKA + has a strobe mode as well as a mode adapted for close range vision giving a mixed beam with wide, uniform flood and a mode adapted for movement with the beam’s focused component allows user to move around comfortably.

An additional model denoted by suffix RGB offers Red, Green and Blue lighting options. The Petzl TACTIKKA + RGB offers slightly more lumens than the standard model with 110 lumens at a distance
of 45 meters. Boost mode allows temporary access to a brightness of 125 lumens (50 meters).

The battery management features for both models are pretty interesting, allowing the user to easily anticipate battery replacement. It automatically switches to reserve mode when batteries are almost drained (signaled by blinking light). Additionally, red lighting switches on when batteries are practically empty to preserve a minimal amount of lighting.

As you can see, the new Petzl TACTIKKA + (RGB) models will be offered in MultiCam, Tan and Black.

An Open Letter From Wild Things to Their Military Customers

January 9th, 2014

Dear Military Community,

All of us at Wild Things would like to wish you a Happy New Year. We thank you for all you do for our great country and we appreciate your excellence, effectiveness and dedication to duty and country.

I would also like to thank our supply chain partners with whom we weathered the Sequester – their support and efforts to continue to supply needed raw materials has been much appreciated.

2014 looks to be a better year for all of us that supply the military. A two-year federal government budget should allow the DOD to plan their buys with some degree of confidence.

2013 was a tough year for the industry and a particularly tough year for Wild Things. We are nearing the end of a multi-year transition at Wild Things – a transition that has resulted in new owners, new management, upgraded systems and processes, new and expanded product line and a revolutionary new approach to consumer product – and the Sequester hit us hard. We closed our New Hampshire office in June and let people go to reduce our operating costs. In addition, we had some production delays in 2013. Wild Things has always prided itself on our rapid delivery of quality products. We did not perform to our standards and I would like to apologize to all who were impacted by our delays.

The back half of 2013 was a dramatic improvement. Our sales bookings were strong. Our manufacturing ramped back up and we have been delivering product at a steady cadence. In the midst of this difficult year, the Wild Things team has launched an entire new line of FR products, including:
• New high performance Fire Retardant base layers made with a new wool blend that contains no Modacrylic;
• New GORE-TEX® PYRAD™ Fire Retardant Hard Shell Jacket and Pants;
• New Fire Retardant Low Loft Jacket made with GORE-TEX® PYRAD™ Fabric with Fast Pack technology shell.

Please contact Frank Tarantino or Grady Burrell (828.421.4349) regarding appointments for Military or Law Enforcement personnel at SHOT SHOW or Outdoor Retailer to review our new product line.

I would like to thank our distributor partners who work hard on our behalf and who show our products to customers around the world. We appreciate your efforts to grow the Wild Things community.

Best wishes to all for a healthy, happy and prosperous 2014.

– Ed Schmults and the Wild Things Team
