Sneak Peek – Pohl Force Prepper S.E.R.E.

December 1st, 2023

With the Prepper One series, Pohl Force introduced a completely new knife concept for bushcrafters and outdoor enthusiasts in 2016: Compact in overall size, a blade length that complies with German weapons regulations (below 12 cm) and a hollow handle for storing survival utensils. After just a short time, Dietmar Pohl’s design became a real classic among outdoor fans.

In 2023, the Prepper One formed the basis for the further development of a completely new generation, which now focuses on the needs of crew members of civilian and, in particular, military aircraft. The term S.E.R.E. refers to the ability to survive, evade, resist and escape. The Prepper S.E.R.E. was developed with this application profile in mind.

4DT SOF Cap

December 1st, 2023

4DT recently released the SOF Cap, a soft mount for visual augmentation systems where bump or ballistic protection isn’t required. You may recall that it was mentioned by Galvion in their press release regarding the strategic partnerships of their BATLCHK offerings.

I’ve had a prototype for a couple of months but mine doesn’t have a chinstrap and was designed to be used without one. Believe it or not, with a counterweight I can cinch it down so that my bino NVGs don’t pull forward on my head thanks to Galvion’s dial fit band technology. That means when you do use a removable chinstrap, you don’t have to crank it down to attain stability. It feels more like wearing a hat than a helmet but you can add a crowned in addition to the chinstrap if you want.

Made from mesh material to facilitate ventilation, it’s available in Black, Ranger Green, MultiCam and ATACS Ghost.

The SOF Cap is also fitted with both the 4DT Low Profile Shroud and 4DT SECURE Tether Bungee System and they are available as accessories to modify helmets you currently have.

The Low Profile Shroud sits 3/8” closer to the face of the helmet than an L4 shroud. Construction is a High-Impact Polymer shroud with an Aircraft Grade Hard Anodized Aluminum insert.

The SECURE Tether Bungee System features locking mini carabiner attaching points that won’t disengage if you bump into something.

Looking Back, Program Manager Soldier Lethality Change of Charter

December 1st, 2023

Lindner Conference Center   –

Project Manager Soldier Lethality held a change of charter ceremony, followed by a retirement ceremony, at Lindner Conference Center on Picatinny Arsenal, August 4.

Brig. Gen. Christopher Schneider officiated the exchange of responsibility of PM SL from the outgoing Program Manager Col. Scott Madore to Col. Jason Bohannon.

“There are three things I think are the secret sauce to being a great Program Manager,” said Schneider. “You have to lead fearlessly and with compassion. You have to have experience. The last thing I call stakeholder management, but it’s actually being a good teammate. Scott does all these things frankly better than most people I know.”

PM SL performs a pivotal role in equipping Soldiers with unparalleled proficiency in both individual and crew-served weaponry. By overseeing the development, production, deployment, and sustainment of contemporary and future weapon systems, along with target acquisition and fire control products, PM SL ensures a continual evolution. As a result, Soldiers are outfitted with advanced systems that significantly elevate their survivability and lethality, reinforcing their effectiveness in the field.

“I feel extremely honored to have been selected to come to Picatinny to be a part of PEO Soldier and to be part of the PM Soldier Lethality Team,” said Madore, giving his final remarks after handing the leadership reigns over to his counterpart. “I cannot imagine a greater group of teammates to finish my career working alongside.”

As the PM SL organization sends off Col. Madore and his family, a warm welcome is given to the leadership skills and technical expertise of Col. Bohannon. The newest member of the PM SL team here at Picatinny Arsenal is no stranger to this organization.

“My family first came here in 2012,” said Bohannon. “I’d like to thank everybody who contributed to putting me here today. This has been the homecoming for the Bohannon tribe…”

“So, when I talk to the Officers, men, and women of PM Soldier Lethality – you have the most consequential task of our generation for small arms development.  We will field the most lethal small arms that ground forces have ever seen, those systems must be the most reliable tool a Soldier, Marine or operator can depend on are in a firefight, a tool that [they] can trust.”

This was not only a change of charter ceremony, but also an opportunity for Madore to celebrate his retirement ceremony. Madore served with honor in the military for 31 years. The entire organization wishes him and his family good luck and best wishes as they move toward future endeavors.

Be all you can be, Scott. Thank you for your service to the country and for everything you’ve done in your 31-year career.

Statement form LBT, Inc Regarding $2.1 Million Settlement with U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio

November 30th, 2023

Earlier today we shared a press release from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement regarding a civil settlement by LBT, Inc of $2.1 million for the resolution of claims brought by an employee of LBT under the qui tam provisions of the False Claims Act and overseen by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

I have asked LBT to provide a statement to clarify their position. Having read it, it also serves to focus on the heart of the matter at hand and provides a clearer picture of the settlement.

“11/30/2023

LBT fully cooperated with the government’s investigation of this matter and is glad to have it resolved. LBT has always been and remains committed to providing the best support for America’s warfighter. This settlement addressed bags sold by LBT in 2015 and 2016 that did not comply with the Berry Amendment.  The bags supplied by LBT complied, however, with the design specifications established by the military. None of the bags malfunctioned and, by their very nature, could not and did not present any safety concerns for the warfighter. In late April 2017, LBT implemented meaningful changes to its compliance program. Since that time, no concerns have been raised during any of the regular inspections of LBT performed by quality assurance personnel from DLA, military squadron representatives, or a prime contractor. LBT has not been debarred and continues to provide items in support of America’s troops and first responders.”

This is the conclusion of an investigation we discussed back in April of 2017. The ICE press release to allude to several other issues which sound more severe than what we see here. However, considering the length of the investigation and the limited scope of the settlement, the other issues brought up don’t weren’t included.

As LBT states, the issue is now resolved and they implemented procedures several years to prevent this from happening again. They remain in business so there must be something to those claims. Many, me included, are eager to see how LBT will conduct themselves in the market place now that this has concluded.

RemArms LLC to Consolidate Firearms Operations in LaGrange, Georgia

November 30th, 2023

LaGrange – November 30, 2023 – The iconic Remington Firearms brand was founded in 1816, and today Remington Firearms (RemArms) operates as one of the United States’ largest domestic producers of shotguns and rifles. Chief Executive Officer, Kenneth R. D’Arcy today announced that RemArms, America’s oldest firearms brand, will consolidate its firearms operations in LaGrange, Georgia. This will align all firearms manufacturing with our planned global headquarters and world class R&D facility in Georgia, which supports and welcomes the firearms industry.

“We are deeply saddened by the closing of the historic facility in Ilion.  We have a dedicated workforce at the Ilion facility, but maintaining and operating those very old buildings is cost prohibitive, and NY’s legislative environment remains a concern for our industry. In the coming months, we expect to be working with our Ilion employees and their representative on transition issues.” said Ken D’Arcy, RemArms CEO.
