Smith & Wesson To Release Clothing Line at SHOT Show 2012

Monday, January 9th, 2012

During SHOT Show 2011 we reported that Smith & Wesson had selected Wild Things to design a new exclusive clothing line.

At this year’s SHOT Show (booth #13731), they will unveil the new designs. S&W describes the line in a recent press release:

The apparel combines casual every day street wear with functional details for the handgun owner, as well as for those who are not gun owners. It is divided into four categories, Shooting, Tracking, Range, and Hybrid. The jackets have conceal carry internal pockets that function for carrying a gun as well as for carrying an iPhone. The pants have wider belt loops specifically positioned for a holster. The apparel style, quality, and innovation echos the Smith & Wesson brand essence. Wild Things expertise infuses technical fabrications and functional design ergonomics through the line. Product designs exhibit time honored Smith & Wesson All-American heritage, while leveraging the Wild Things technical innovation.

12 Days of Tactical Christmas – Day #2

Monday, December 26th, 2011

Day #1 went pretty well and here’s day #2. Today, two lucky readers will receive High Loft Jackets from WT Tactical.

Designed to be worn over body armor, the High Loft Jacket provides ultimate warmth, featuring 6 oz PrimaLoft® Sport synthetic insulation. The shell is made of 70 denier textured nylon, with 330d Cordura® reinforced abrasion resistant panels on the elbows. The two hand warmer pockets are lined with 2 oz quilted PrimaLoft®, keeping your hands safe from frostbite. Two interior mesh pockets provide storage and a place for wet goods to dry out. An adjustable shock cord hem blocks the wind, and adjuster clips are located in the hand warmer pockets to make cinching the wind out even easier. A fully adjustable helmet compatible hood with laminated brim keeps the head warm and protected. A separate collar keeps the neck nice and warm even when the hood is down. The wrist cuffs are adjustable with Velcro® wrist stays and half elastic, allowing the wearer to put a gloved hand in and out.

Don’t forget, today’s winners as well as every other winner, will receive a 2012 Tac Girls Calendar. (Just the calendar, not any of the girls)

Whiskey 5 with Wild Things

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Who
Wild Things® is a technical outerwear and gear manufacturer founded in 1981 by two accomplished alpine climbers, John Bouchard and Marie-Odile Meunier. Wild Things® has been referred to as the “Tin Shed” of alpine climbing in the United States, introducing generations of climbers to the Light is Right philosophy of mountaineering and clothing design. Under the WT Tactical™ brand, Wild Things® brings this experience to a line of gear tailored to the needs of the Military and Law Enforcement communities.

What
Wild Things designs and manufactures two lines of technical outdoor clothing and gear: Wild Things® for the alpine climber and backcountry enthusiast, and WT Tactical™ for the Military and Law Enforcement communities. Our WT Tactical™ line of technical apparel for the U.S. Military is Berry Amendment compliant. We offer a range a high quality product including a multi-layer technical clothing system designed for the SOF user as well as the USMC Happy Suit and the GEN III Level 7 (Parka and Trousers) for the U.S. Army’s ECWCS. Wild Things is also licensed to manufacture clothing under the M&P® by Smith & Wesson® brand, leveraging its WT Tactical® designs for the greater LE market.

Where
Our HQ is Newport, RI and we have a product design and development studio in North Conway, NH. We also maintain a short-run and prototype manufacturing facility in Gorham, NH. We sell our products directly through our website (wttactical.com), our retail store in North Conway, NH, and through a select group of Prime Vendors and other key distributors. We have recently expanded our reach to include the international military community.

When
Wild Things was founded in 1981 with a set of designs that were considered by many to be the first look at specialized gear and clothing for Light is Right alpine climbing in the United States. From 1981 through 1990 nearly every big climb was done with at least some items from Wild Things gear. In the late 1990’s, Wild Things attracted the attention of the U.S. Military, designing customized gear for the SOF community. In 2000, Wild Things began winning contracts to design and produce gear for the U.S. Army and the USMC, and later wrapped all of these efforts into a new brand, WT Tactical™. Today, WT Tactical™ has fulfilled over 29 U.S. Military contracts and is poised for growth with new products and through our expansion into international military markets. Wild Things will also launch a new line of alpine outerwear in time for the 2011 winter season.

Why
We perceive a need in the alpine climbing and backcountry community, as well as the Military, for durable, high-quality, lightweight gear and clothing. Our mantra, Light is Right, has been part of Wild Things since its inception. We focus on creating clean, simple designs and make them with world-class fabrics. Our purpose-built products do not have unnecessary features that add cost and weaken a garment. We believe, simply, that our approach to design and manufacturing helps our users complete their missions – granting them the freedom to move over terrain in a fast and light way, with a high degree of protection from the elements, in worry-free gear that is built to last for many years of abuse.

Wild Things Announces Jordanian Contract and Partnership

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

Wild Things, LLC, a manufacturer of technical outerwear and tactical gear for both men and women, will design uniforms for the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) and enter the footwear business through a licensing agreement with the Jordanian Company for Manufacturing Special Boots.

WT Tactical will sell and market its own brand of tactical boots internationally. WT Tactical CEO, Ed Schmults, signed these two agreements Wednesday in front of HM King Abdullah of Jordan at the Jordan – U.S. Business Forum in Amman.

“This is a key part of our business strategy to expand in the international marketplace,” said Schmults. “It makes strong business sense for a number of reasons — the Jordanian government is stable, there is a high quality, low cost apparel manufacturing infrastructure, and finally, these new partnerships enable us to expand outside of Jordan into the region and more broadly around the world.”

Utilizing WT Tactical’s extensive military apparel expertise, the Jordanian uniforms will feature enhanced fit and functionality, advanced fabric to enhance comfort across a broad range of temperatures and will provide a range of product options to meet the needs of the JAF. In addition, WT Tactical will begin production of a portion of its current military product line in Jordan for export to the international military community.

In addition, WT Tactical will begin to design, market and sell footwear for the international military and law enforcement community via a licensing agreement with The Jordanian Company for Manufacturing Special Boots at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Jordan. WT Tactical has begun discussions with boot designers to begin work on a next generation boot that will include new phase-change impact absorbing foams and other technical design features.

The first apparel lines will be ready by late 2011 with the footwear following later in 2012.

Wild Things Lightweight Softshell Layer

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

At the recent Warrior Expo hosted by ADS, Wild Things unveiled several garments as part of a new layering system. While they are all excellent, one level really stood out; the Lightweight Softshell Layer. For those of you familiar with the Twight System, consider it a Level 5. This level which is designed to be complimentary with other Wild Things garments or used alone, consists of a Pullover and Trousers.

Wild Things Lightweight Softshell Level Top

Designed to be worn under armor, the Lightweight Softshell Pullover is made from a combination of a 4 way stretch nylon/spandex bonded to a hydrophobic fleece, and a 4 way stretch nylon/spandex twill fabric. The softshell fleece fabric is used on the collar, yoke, and upper sleeves, wrapping around the cuff to protect the wrist. The softshell twill is used for the body and under sleeves, reducing bulk and friction. The cuff is finished with the thinner twill, creating a flat, snug band that keeps the wind out without restricting the wrist. A quarter-zip at the neck creates an opening wide enough to pull over the end, while keeping the zipper end above the top of the armor package. A longer body gives the wearer the opportunity to tuck the shirt into the pants, reducing any chance for it to get snagged, but the dropped tail will protect the rear even if the shirt gets pulled out. Bicep pockets on the sleeves provide easy to access storage, with Velcro patches for any badges. Pit zips under the arm provide optional ventilation, but also allow for the sleeves to be converted into short sleeves, with pockets under the bicep to roll excess fabric into. Such a capability was specified by the customer due to the danger of overheating during movement to contact or while in the assault.

Wild Things Lightweight Layer Trousers

With a slim athletic cut, these pants are designed to look great, as well as perform. The four-way stretch nylon/spandex blend moves with the wearer and stretches with every motion yet protects against wind, water, and abrasion. The high memory ensures that the pant keeps its shape even after being used and abused. The crotch gusset and articulated knees enhance the mobility without adding extra seaming or bulk and the belt loops were designed to avoid getting snagged. The pants feature four cargo pockets, two on the thigh sides and two on the calf sides. Additionally, knife pockets are sewn onto both thigh cargo pockets for easy access to a blade and staggered Velcro on those pockets aids the user so that the whole pocket doesn’t have to open to get the knife. The pockets can be stuffed to the brim and the Velcro can still attach, or the pockets can carry a lighter load and be snapped shut for security. The angle on the thigh pockets rolls the stored goods forward so they are always where your hand is hanging. Zippered hems allow ease in pulling the pant on over boots, and gripper tape at the hem keeps the pants down around the ankle where they should be. A final touch is the addition of grommets to the hems so that they can be strapped down over boots.

The garments will not be available until Fall and while Tan will be a standard color, other shades will be announced as the release approaches. For more information visit www.wildthingsgear.com.
