EmFX Pouches from NEMO Equipment Now Available ADS

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

The EmFX Pouches from NEMO Equipment that we wrote about back in July are finally available both for unit orders through ADS and individual purchase with Tactical Distributors. Essentially, the pouch creates a mini Faraday Cage blocking all incoming and outgoing Radio Frequency signals. This means, you can’t pocket dial someone and no one can remotely query the data stored on your cell phone. Unfortunately, bad guys can query this data, so as you stroll along on business or vacation, criminals (or worse) can collect your info, all without your knowledge. The only way to protect this data is to store it in a safe place. If you are someone who travels frequently overseas this pouch is a good investment.

Interestingly, in Chapter 4 of William Gibson‘s new book, “Zero History” the story mentions a Faraday Cage pouch for passports and what nastiness can happen to unsuspecting passport holders. In case you didn’t realize it, new passports include a Radio Frequency ID tag that contains information on you and allows customs to more quickly process you. NEMO Equipment is currently working on just such a model for passports.

Tactical Snuggie?

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

Thanks to tacticalpantsblog for giving us a heads up on this. We are suckers for Snuggies. We have a couple of them lying around the home office and they make great gifts. But, they are essentially cheaply made and wouldn’t last for long in the great outdoors. The website claims that the Snuggie Outdoor is, “Ultra Soft Snuggie® Lining!” and “Water Resistant Nylon Exterior!” but we are not really sure what that means. We will be looking for one and will let our readers know how it fairs. On the other hand, it would be nice of something like this were available that was built specifically for tactical use. From someone…anyone?

I/O Bio Contact 1 Pilot Suit

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

Winter is right around the corner and I/O Bio presents the Contact 1 Pilot Suit to keep you warm and snugly. Nothing feels like a union suit and the Contact 1 Pilot Suit takes the design one step further by adding thumbholes and a hood. Naturally, they have retained the shoot-the-moon drop seat to accommodate those pesky calls of nature. But probably the best feature about the Pilot Suit is that it made from Merino wool and what’s not to love about Merino? It’s naturally comfortable against the skin, hypo-allergenic, no melt no drip, and anti-microbial and anti-bacterial.

TenCate has developed a new version of the FR Defender M fabric which enhances durability. It will be used on new production of the USMC’s Flame Resistant Organizational Gear (FROG) ensemble. MICO Machine Gunner’s Assault Pack Now for Sale

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

TYR Tactical (pronounced tear) released the MICO ‘Quiver of Death’ Machine Gunner Assault Pack. When we initially wrote about it, we told you it was a very specialized piece of kit. Now that it is actually available the price tag reflects that. Don’t get me wrong, it is very well built and uses the best components.

This isn’t something that you are going to see out on the MilSim skirmish field, but rather it is designed for a narrow task set. That doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t be surprised to see knockoffs of the MICO before Christmas. However, if you are in the business of using an M240 or M249 in the Direct Action role, then you should take a look at the MICO.
