Interested in Some Special Platatac Kit?

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Platatac just posted a picture of a new rig on their Facebook wall. It’s a niche piece of kit but they’re wondering if anyone else would be interested in it. Go check it out, let ’em know what you think. Many people are unaware that the Australian company frequently builds small batches of specialized kit that never goes out on their commercial site. If they make just a few dozen it might cost as much as $400. If they manufacture over a hundred the price could be cut in half. Go check it out.

Tentsile – A Unique Shelter from the UK

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

We love hammocks but let’s face it, they are kind of cramped. But not anymore, at least now that Tentsile is on the scene. The advantages are obvious; stay up, off of the ground and avoid pests, water, dangerous animals and other threats.

They offer shelters to accommodate groups ranging in size from 2 – 8 persons. Tentsile will work with you to build to your requirements but generally, the larger versions of these super hammocks follow a three-pointed design with individual sleeping areas radiating out from a communal porch.

Tentsile shelters aren’t for every environment but if the conditions are right, they sure do look like a lot of fun.

Ops-Core to Resume Operations

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

In an agreement with the City of Boston earlier this week, Ops-Core will have 45 days to do assembly work, but no painting, in its space at Fort Point Studios. Simultaneously, it will move its operation to a new facility in Boston. This comes after recent tensions with artist-tenants at Fort Point Studios. I feel this is great for America and great for Ops-Core and great for their employees who will be back to work.

Personally, I hope the remaining tenants of Fort Point get exactly what they asked for. That mean old corporation (Ops-Core) that employs people and pays taxes and rent and stuff will go away. Now all that needs to happen is for the owners of the facility to get their tenants to step up and pay fair value for their flats. I hope they enjoy actually pulling their own weight.
