BHI 2013 BHI Girls & Guns Calendar Supports Charities

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

The 2013 BHI Girls & Guns calendar is now available for pre-order through BHI’s online store. The 2013 calendar promises to be their best one yet, and this year all profits will be going to support Xtreme Couture GI Foundation and It Ain’t Chemo. That’s why it’s so important to pre-order your 2013 calendars. By extending the sales window BHI anticipates maximizing revenue for these two great charity organization. Let’s give them a hand.

Randy Couture very generously donated the use of his MMA gym – Extreme Couture for the photo shoot. I was on hand for a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into producing such a calendar. It takes a lot of work coordinating the various moving pieces. You have location, models, makeup, costumes, guns, props, cameras and photographer. Additionally, BHI sponsored a couple of range trips with the models at The Gun Store in Las Vegas. All of the models are shooters but weapon safety is important to BHI so they wanted to give the models some instruction before the photo shoot.

Pre-order your calendar at www.bhigear.com/2013-bhi-girls-and-guns-calendar.

Note – The Xtreme Couture GI Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation, was founded by MMA legend Randy Couture to honor the veterans of America’s armed forces. The foundation was especially formed to raise money and awareness for those wounded in action and their families. It Ain’t Chemo is an organization that provides cancer patients with comfort and care supplies, advice, and emotional support.

$410 Desert Boots

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

No, these aren’t some ubercool performance packed combat boots but rather haute couture. Fashion designer Mark McGrath has taken the classic brothel creeper design and slathered it in MultiCam goodness. They aren’t even being marketed as genuine MultiCam which confirms that the pattern was chosen as a generic ‘camo’ pattern rather than for its attributes and that even though MultiCam is more famous than he is, it’s taking a back seat to his name. What’s worse, they are being advertised as canvas but the material is obviously issue NYCO. Think about how well NYCO holds up and then consider having shoes made from it.

That’s right, $410 bucks for NYCO wallabys. These really no good reason for the price other than the connection with McGrath. So next time you see an expensive piece of kit on SSD that actually incorporates innovation and performance into its DNA, think that some chump is paying $410 for a pair of shoes my parents used to buy for me at Kenney Shoes for about $20, sans the MultiCam.

Propper Adds Army Combat Pant to Online Catalog

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

Propper has added their version of the Army Combat Pant to their ecommerce site. We covered the pant in-depth during last year’s Modern Day Marine, showing the various features. The ACP is manufactured from TenCate Defender M and integrates the Crye Precision knee pad.

This indicates that it may soon be for sale, at least to Government clients. Their description –

The PROPPER ACP based on the Crye design is a specialized garment incorporating feedback from field trials and tests conducted in Afghanistan. The ACP, while resembling the appearance of the current Fire Resistant Army Combat Uniform (FRACU), includes unique features, capabilities and characteristics necessary for improved performance on the modern battlefield.

The ACP offered by PROPPER is available in the Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern (OCP or MultiCam).

Darley Days Ft Drum – Eureka Rapid Deployable System

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

Shown at yesterday’s Darley Days, this Rapid Deployable Shelter from Eureka! turned some heads.

Designed to interface with TEMPER tents, the feature that is drawing folks to the RDS is its articulated unique frame system. It kind of reminds me of those mobile vestibules many use for picnics. You stretch the frame out and use pins to keep it from collapsing.

What’s really neat about it is that you don’t have to lift parts up into the air and held them in place while you get everything lined up.

The RDS also features replaceable windows and the skin is made from a PVC coated, high tenacity polyester fabric.
