How Did The Beretta M9 Show Up In ‘Lone Survivor?’

Wednesday, February 5th, 2014

How Did The Beretta M9 Show Up In ‘Lone Survivor?’ That’s the question being asked.

At the time of Operation ‘Red Wings’ which is the subject of the hit movie ‘Lone Survivor’, SEALs were toting SIG P226s, not M9 Berettas. Hollywood prop houses have loads of different guns, including SIGs, and any recent action movie will attest to that. So how did it get there? Rumor has it that M9 manufacturer Beretta paid the movie’s producers an undisclosed sum of money (some say in the high 5 figures) to have their weapon included. In fact, Brand-in Entertainment has bragged about the Beretta’s insertion on their website. It’s just brand placement right? So much for insisting on accuracy.

M9 in Lone Survivor

An M9 is clearly visible on the belt of Michael Murphy (Taylor Kitsch) in the opening scene and later again, when a SEAL draws his handgun while ordering one of the Chinook pilots to not turn around.

Oakley Prizm Lens Technology Now Available

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

US Elite is now taking order for two styles featuring the new Oakley Prizm Lens Technology. I had a chance to start using the new lenses during range day at SHOT Show and I really like them. According to Oakley, the Prizm lens technology uses a formulated dye that boosts visual recognition of targets while blocking a variety of neighboring backgrounds such as dirt, trees and sky. The whole idea is to block certain colors of light in order to increase contrast. I know, it sounds great, but does it work? In my experience, yes. So far, they come in two gradients (TR22 and TR45) and I could easily transition from outdoors to indoors while wearing the lighter of the two (TR22). I really like them.

Currently, US Elite has the Flak Jacket XLJ Prizm with TR 45 lens available.

They also offer the M Frame 3.0 Prizm with both TR 22 and 45 lenses.

OR – Lowa Z-6 and Z-8 Series Boots

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

At OR I had a chance to catch up with German brand Lowa to find out about their new Z-6 and Z-8 series boots coming later this year. Leveraging the technology of the Zephyr, the new Z-6 and Z-8 (the number denotes the height of the upper) utilize the well-proven and patented PU MONOWRAP® frame technology but are beefier with a medial sole wrap and heavier duty lug pattern to protect against rope abrasion during fast rope descents. The goal was to produce a boot that offers the walking comfort of light hiking boots combined with the support and protection of backpacking boots. LOWA further toughened up the design up with a full-length nylon stabilizer and an aggressive rubber outsole. Lightweight metal closed hooks allow for speed lacing and meet requirements for airborne operations so no more taping up your eye hooks.

Below you will notice two suffixes in the full list of models names which denote the leather choices of split (S) and Nubuck (N). GORE-TEX® linings provide waterproof comfort, breathability and warmth in damp weather. Quick drying fabric linings are offered for hot and humid climates. LOWA’s patented Climate Control System pumps heat and moisture away from the foot, keeping feet dry and less prone to blisters.
