SHOT Show – Magpul’s Bag, Claymore, Happy

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

There was a hidden gem in the Magpul booth. The Happy Claymore Bag is the result of the CORE team attempting to make a better bag for the M18A1 Claymore Mine. I don’t know what I like more, the smiley face at the front of the bag, the instructions and illustrations, or the actual functionality itself.

The bag opens up to expose a large sheet, similar to a rope bag which includes the instructions. This also makes it a good choice for an SSE bag. Open it up, place it on a flat surface, throw items of interest on the sheet, grab the four corners and all the loot slides into the bag. Of course, as you can see, the Happy Claymore Bag has lots of other uses as well.

SHOT Show – Balor Mount by Raven Concealment Systems

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

Designed to fit any 9mm or .40 double stack GLOCK, the Balor is a two-piece design that requires no gunsmithing or alteration of your slide other than removing the rear sight and backplate.

One component slides into the rear sight dovetail and the other takes the place of the factory backplate. Once emplaced, the two components are automatically centered in order to bolt together. The result is a strong clamp-like effect on the slide. Steel construction means that it won’t fall apart through thousands of rounds.

Another really cool feature is that it incorporates back up iron sights across the mount itself. The rear is a line that can be filled in by the user and the front is a GLOCK sight.

Available for the Aimpoint T-1 and Trijicon RMR. Shipping 1 May.

SHOT Show – S&S Precision PlateFrame Gen II

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

S&S Precision has developed a second generation of the PlateFrame. It is injection molded which brings in some additional features and will also lower production costs. The new system also means that as you change plates, all you’ll need to do is change out the clips that hold it in place.

They’ve also added a new quick connection point at the shoulders and a stiffened cummerbund.

The new Modular Back Panel can be removed for a quick swap of loads.

To do so, you open the levers to change the panel out. Simply put it in place and close the levers to secure the panel.

Look for it hitting the market third quarter 2016.

SHOT Show – Kalashnikov USA

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

DSC07202

The AK Alfa was on one of the new weapons for 2016 on display at the Kalashnikov USA booth. Using the traditional Kalashnikov rifle as the foundation, a team of Israel Defense Force snipers and engineers designed a modernized interpretation of the AK platform. One of the main features of the Alfa is it’s designed to be customized to conform to a user’s body type and shooting style. To this end, the safety lever, magazine release, and charging handle is ambidextrous. Additionally, the charging grip is interchangeable, the forend is modular, and the stock can be customized from one of several butt pads. The pistol grip, which features interchangeable inserts, also has a sealed battery compartment.

The Alfa is chambered for 7.62×39, and uses any standard AK-compatible magazines.

Below, you can check out a 3D model overview video of the AK Alfa rifle.

SHOT Show – MOHOC

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

DSC07215

It’s been a while since we last posted anything on the MOHOC Elite Ops Camera, and while nothing has changed with the camera itself, there are two new updates worth covering. First, it’ll be available for general purchase very soon; we were told approximately within a week after SHOT. Until now, sales have generally been restricted to Military and Law Enforcement. The second announcement is MOHOC is working on developing a line of accessories for the Elite Ops Camera.

DSC07221

This is the Flat Surface Mount. This mount not only accounts for the curvature of the MOHOC camera, providing a flat surface for the camera to sit on, but it also features a 1/4″ thread and two mounting sockets on the bottom.

DSC07222

This mount mates with any accessories which utilize a 1/4″ screw, such as the generic miniature tripod seen below:

DSC07223

MOHOC also developed a KeyMod compatible attachment system which mates with the mounting sockets on the flat mount, allowing for users to attach the Elite Ops Camera to their weapon.

DSC07217

MOHOC also developed this GoPro mount-compatible adapter, due to the wide availability GoPro accessories on the market, and their wide adoption.

DSC07219

What you see below is a Dog mount for the MOHOC, which is worn like a collar and positions the the camera right between the dog’s ears.

DSC07218

Below is a shoulder strap adapter, which attaches to a shoulder strap on a pack or armor carrier.

Finally, MOHOC has developed a nylon carrying case for the Elite Ops Camera.

DSC07225

Additionally, MOHOC has been working on an accessory door which features cut outs for the HDMI and USB ports inside the Elite Ops Camera.
