MDM 24 – Polaris MRZR Alpha 6×6

Thursday, May 2nd, 2024

The new MRZR Alpha 6×6 from Polaris is the coolest thing I’ve seen at Modern Day Marine. While it has participated in a few closed events like the recent USSOCOM Family of Special Operations Vehicles Rodeo, this is its first public appearance.

The concept demonstrator was created by adding a third axel using spare parts at the factory. They then ran it over 1,300 miles to prove the concoct would work. Initial demonstrations and evaluations in 2022 and early 2023 have taken place in the Southwest and Midwest of the US as well as at the National Automotive Test Center in Nevada.

Polaris has matured the design and are manufacturing additional tech demonstrators later this year. These additional trucks will be used to conduct vehicle-level performance testing to verify that engineering design and analysis was correct and the vehicle performs as expected.

In addition to being internally transportable via the V-22, CH-47 and CH-53, the MRZR Alpha 6×6 will maintain the top speed of the smaller variants.

The production version promises more than 90% common components with the base Alpha (with a different driveline and chassis), leveraging the same high-performance shocks, eight-speed transmission, suspension, and other components for maximum commonality between variants.

In addition to increased mobility, the new six wheeled model also offers increased load capacity. With a curb weight of 4,200 lbs, it can accept 3,600 lbs of cargo for a gross vehicle weight of 7,800. This is phenomenal compared to the standard MRZR Alpha which has a bed cargo limit of 600 lbs. Believe it to not, this increased capacity is achieved by adding that third axel which only makes the MRZR about 11″ longer than the standard model. The bed is now 84″ long instead of 50″. This also results in the maneuverability of the 2-seat version with the crawling capability of the 4-seat model. It also reportedly performs even better than the 4×4 in soft soil, mud, and bogs like those in Eastern Europe.

This increased space and cargo capacity along with a payload leveling suspension, open the MRZR up to a whole slew of new missions:

– Rockets & Missiles

– Mobile mortar systems

– Command and Control

– UAS/Drone launch

– C-UAS

– L-MADIS

– TAGRS

– NOTM

MRZR Alpha 6×6 vehicles have been delivered to PM-FOSOV and the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab for continued evaluation and experimentation. PM-FOSOV will use their vehicles to help inform future requirements. The MCWL is actively experimenting with implementing new capabilities using the platform in the areas of Logistics and Precision Fires.

MDM 24 – Forged Authority Off-Grid

Thursday, May 2nd, 2024

Forged Authority is a small business based in Iowa which got its start in the overland community.

They build portable wind generators which are deployable within five minutes either on a vehicle mounted mast or a static, ground-based configuration. These weigh in at between 45 and 65 pounds.

At Modern Day Marine they are dipping their toe in the military market. With the Marine Corps’ new Operating Concept calling for harvesting of energy, this might well be a good answer for remote island operations.

Whiskey 5: Bullet Vault

Thursday, May 2nd, 2024

Whiskey 5 is a recurring Soldier Systems Daily feature that asks “Who, What, When, Where, and Why” of industry leaders, manufacturers and instructors — to let you hear how they describe themselves. It’s intended to give you a close
and thorough look at some of the people that make our industry unique. We’ve found these basic 5 questions to be the basic keys to understanding. Past Whiskey-5s have included businesses from Adventure Operations Group to Zulu Nylon Gear and many, many fine organizations between.

Today, we’ll be sharing an overview of Bullet Vault.

Who

Clay Tippins and a small group of solid, like-minded people run Bullet Vault. One of those folks is a longtime gun industry peer
Nate Treadway (now a Bullet Vault strategic advisor). Others are part of the same group of investors that owns Lone Wolf and
Primary Weapons System (PWS). Tippins is a Naval Special Warfare veteran, self-professed economics geek, and technology
developer. Some of you will remember him from his run for the office of Governor in Georgia a few years back.

Bullet Vault is an ammo subscription business that offers far more expansive services than you might think. Bullet Vault has built the foundation to evolve into a collateralized transaction engine backed by a physical 9mm 115-grain FMJ bullet.

1 “BulletReserve” = 1 physical 9mm bullet in the warehouse.

(L to R) Clay Tippins, Trigger, and Nate Treadway. The giant on the far right is Tip, Clay’s son.

Let’s back up and explain – particularly the collateralized part of this.

Once upon a time, the $USD was backed by gold specie. The British pound (£/GBP) has that name because it was backed by a
pound of silver. The precious metals Bullet Vault deals in include a number of other, more Second Amendment-based metals, including brass, lead, steel, and more in the form of physical 9mm bullets

Bullet Vault uses proprietary blockchain technology to issue and track bullet reserves. Every token minted on the blockchain has a real thing – a 9mm bullet – behind it. Want to start putting away a few hundred rounds of ammunition each month? That’s the subscription service.

Want to gift the monetary value of your BulletReserves to someone else at Bullet Vault? Transfer some of your reserves to their account.

Are you buying bullets instead of investing in gold and silver? Sell a few cases back to Bullet Vault seamlessly within the platform. Or…have us ship you some of your reserves from the warehouse. Then, meet up with some of your buddies and go have a range day.

Just don’t plan on using whatever you sell back or trade away as further investment or collateral. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. The logic and function of the software track unallocated bullets (which are the tokenized assets), allowing them to be used as a one-for-one, 100% collateralized allocation.

In real time.

When

Although the idea that became Bullet Vault was born back in 2019 (over a fire at a hunt camp), the site and app have only
been active for a few months. There were years of research, banking studies, and software development in the beginning,
then more of the same when Tippins realized that just establishing his own bank (his original idea) would not be enough
to complete his mission.

The challenge is processing. There has to be a way to conduct the transaction.

That has become increasingly problematic over the last several years as credit card companies, Paypal, and others have slowly begun to slow or even forbid Second Amendment-related commerce.

That already alarming trend has been worsening for years, and for Tippins and Treadway, it became more personal shortly after
the purchase of Lone Wolf Arms.

“The first Wednesday I owned Lone Wolf,” Bullet Vault Chairman Clay Tippins says, “my CFO called and said, hey, got bad news for you. We’re going to lose card processing within the next week.”

That event was a catalyst—not the only catalyst, but an extremely significant one—as you’ll learn below in Why.

Where

Bullet Vault’s “Head Shed” is in several remote locations, but the Tippins live in Georgia, and their current warehouse is in Idaho. As we add locations, we will achieve redundancy and potentially reduce costs.

Next up will be Montana, a location that could offer some initial benefit to those buyers who wish to store ammunition long-term. Montana is one of just five (5) states that don’t (currently) charge sales tax on ammunition.

Bullet Vault customers who want to “ship and shoot” must still pay appropriate state and local taxes. Warehouses in other states, possibly Oregon, Georgia, Delaware, or New Hampshire, are likely in the near future.

Why

BULLET VAULT WAS ESTABLISHED TO SUPPORT THE FREEDOM TO DO COMMERCE.

Financial institutions refuse to do business with 2A industry businesses. Credit card companies won’t process charges for gun-related purchases. Social media platforms, including YouTube, penalize or cancel those who violate (or even might have
violated) a fairly ambiguous set of ‘community standards.’

Tippins explains:

“The problem is the transactions. That’s the…Achilles Heel of the Second Amendment. It’s the jugular. If they can’t legislate guns out of existence, they’re gonna try to do it other ways. They’ll make insurance expensive, they’re gonna cut us off from credit card processing and banking services, and from social media. The ability to do commerce is the lifeblood of the world. We need commerce not just as an industry but as a people.”

In many of those latter cases, consistent enforcement limited to their own rules is dubious at best. It’s the same with many
crowd-backing mechanisms like Patreon, GoFundMe, and the like.

Bank Vault was with difficulty, able to switch from Bank of America-backed anti-gun credit card processors before we suffered
irreparable financial damage, but it was a near thing.

In Tippins’s own words, it scared the shit out of him. It also made him mad. So, he decided to do something about it. That something was, after dialing things in more than a little, Bullet Vault.

Specifically, taking a bullet subscription service and making it an engine for collateralized trade.

In addition to being a handy way to use dollar-cost averaging to stash away ammunition at a good price, of course!

We evolved from a bank-focused mission to one of collateralized trade because of the need for transactions. It doesn’t help much to have lots of money in your account if there’s no way to use it electronically. Cash is nice, but in today’s age, it is impractical except for incidental daily use.

If Tippins and the Bank Vault crew have our way, eventually, people will use Bullet Vault to swipe or check out instead of Amex, MasterCard, or Paypal.

Bullet Vault FAQ

• A BulletReserve is the digital representation of a single 115gr FMJ 9mm made-in-the-USA bullet in a new brass
case; each Reserve is backed, one for one, by a physical bullet.

• Bullet Vault currently charges a 6% sales tax on Reserves at the time of purchase. That’s Idaho’s state sales tax. No
subsequent tax is currently charged when the user decides to have their ammo shipped.

• Applicable taxes on future ammunition purchased in other states, i.e., Montana and others, will be determined when a
user “withdraws” it by having it shipped; that amount will be based on the user’s ship-to location.

• There is no storage fee for the first year following a user’s purchase of Bullet Reserves. After the first year, an as-yet-undetermined (but guaranteed to be minor) fee will be charged.

• Bullet Vault cannot currently perform services in Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland,
Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Rhode Island. We are working to expand services into
currently restricted parts of the lower 48. Some states require ammo to be shipped to an FFL location.

• Clay Tippins has never been in a SEAL movie. He hasn’t written a novel or a memoir. But he did run for Georgia
governor once, and he still has great hair.

TNVC Announces Discontinuation of Stocking Filmed Green Phosphor Binocular Night Vision Systems

Thursday, May 2nd, 2024

Redlands, California

Tactical Night Vision Company (TNVC, INC.) announced today that they will discontinue the normal stocking of Filmed Green Phosphor Binocular Night Vision systems and divest their current inventory and fully transition to both Filmed and Unfilmed White Phosphor systems for dual tube night vision devices. Filmed Green Phosphor will still be offered as an option for the TN/PVS-14 Monocular Night Vision Device for entry-level systems. Both Filmed and Unfilmed Green Phosphor binocular systems will still be available for special order upon request, however, they may experience extended lead times.

“Over the past decade or so since the mainstream operational introduction of White Phosphor image intensifiers, we’ve found that end users, whether organizational or private increasingly and almost universally prefer white phosphor goggles to green phosphor,” states TNVC COO, Augee Kim, adding: “While the ‘green screen’ NVG will always be classic and iconic, removing Filmed Green image intensifiers from our binocular NVG product line will allow us to streamline our supply lines and increase efficiencies, particularly as we begin to integrate exciting new technologies and embark on new partnerships as well as developing existing ones to further improve our product line and continue to offer the highest quality, most advanced products to all of our customers, both government and especially private consumers.”

The discontinuation and divestiture of new, stocking Green Phosphor binocular systems will have no affect on existing units and warranties, which will continue to be supported in accordance with TNVC’s Lifetime Limited Warranty program, and users with specific requirements will still be able to obtain filmed green systems via special order if desired.

In support of this divestiture, TNVC will be liquidating all remaining stocks of filmed green image intensifiers and complete night vision systems. These systems will be offered as complete units (no build-to-order) with full warranty support and consistent with TNVC’s high standards of quality for all of their TNV-units, but at a significant discount via TNVC’s website:

tnvc.com/crazy-vics-discount-night-vision-emporium

“We figured that while we were making this transition, we may as well give customers the opportunity to get into an extremely high-quality night vision device, using true, Gen. 3, U.S. MIL-SPEC ground tubes at some of the best prices out there, comparable to what folks are paying for Gen. 2 and blemished devices,” notes Victor DiCosola, TNVC Founder and CEO, adding with a chuckle and wink: “So I decided while my staff is figuring out our new product lines and partnerships, I would set up a ‘pop-up,’ Crazy Vic’s Discount Night Vision Emporium.”

More details on the green phosphor liquidation and Crazy Vic’s pop-up can be found on TNVC’s Instagram page:

Electronic Warfare Planning and Management Tool (EWPMT) Contract Cancellation

Thursday, May 2nd, 2024

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, MD – The U.S. Army recently announced the cancellation of the Electronic Warfare Planning and Management Tool (EWPMT) task order competition under the RS3 Enterprise contract. The decision was prompted by evolving requirements and a strategic realignment within the program.

As part of this realignment moving forward, the U.S. Army continues to prioritize its service specific EWPMT fielding of current capability and will also focus on EWPMT software architecture modernization. Program Executive Office – Intelligence, Electronic Warfare, and Sensors (PEO IEW&S) is working on a pilot as part of the architecture modernization in collaboration with the United States Marine Corps (USMC), shifting EWPMT’s electromagnetic warfare and spectrum management capabilities to the Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) framework. This effort is being led by the Electronic Warfare Integration (EWI) product management office.

TAK-X is a framework on which applications for presenting situational awareness data and geospatial visualizations can be built. Transition to the TAK framework is consistent with ongoing efforts to deliver capability at speed by leveraging common technologies across the Services with a similar user experience. The TAK user community collaborates across the EW user space and presents opportunities for technology advancement and integration across the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, Special Operations Command, and the Joint Communities of Interest.

This strategic move aims to ensure that EWPMT is a relevant capability at the forefront of emerging operational requirements. The results of the U.S. Army-USMC collaboration on the TAK-X foundation will provide for microservice-based, modular software architecture satisfying Joint and individual Service requirements. It will enable agile development, integration, and ability to rapidly adjust to evolving operational requirements.

The initial releases of the modernized architecture, EWPMT-X, will be piloted and demonstrated over the next year to gain EW operator feedback. If the pilot effort proves successful, EWPMT-X will replace the current version of EWPMT in Fiscal Year 2026, ushering in a new era of Joint electronic warfare and spectrum management capabilities.

The U.S. Army program office is assessing future contract efforts based on operational and support requirements. Updates on future contract opportunities will be released via SAM.gov and PEO IEW&S – hosted Acquisition Lead Time (ALT) Industry events.

G9 Defense 6.5 Creedmoor 120gr Solid Copper Super Match

Wednesday, May 1st, 2024

Post Falls, ID. – (April 24th, 2024) – G9 Defense premium defensive ammunition, is pleased to announce new 6.5 Creedmoor 120gr Solid Copper Super Match ammunition with ALPHA Brass. G9 Super Match technology is used in rifle projectiles intended for target, competition, and training applications.

The new G9 Defense 6.5 Creedmoor 120gr Solid Copper Super Match with ALPHA Brass utilizes high muzzle velocities and high ballistic coefficients to achieve shorter times of flight, flatter trajectories, and less wind drift compared to other match bullets on the market. G9 Super Match rounds take a shooter’s long-range capability to the next level.

The new 6.5 Super Match’s advancements in internal ballistics come from patented side geometry that allow for less friction in the barrel, resulting in faster muzzle velocities at SAAMI standard pressures and lower barrel temperature during a firing string. These properties are enhanced by metallurgy selectionthe of all copper G9 Super Match bullets. The projectile features multiple bands machined into its side, which decreases bearing surface and pressures without diminishing ballistic coefficient. Combining these design benefits with the most rigorous load development and testing standards, G9 offers rounds with high muzzle velocities while maintaining extremely low standard deviations.

This new bullet is an all machine-turned solid copper or brass projectile that offers significant improvement in consistency over traditional jacketed lead bullets, which often have minor inconsistencies in density. By machine turning the projectiles G9 produces a round with a lower standard deviation of ballistic coefficient than any other method of production. At extended ranges, a low standard deviation in BC is more meaningful than standard deviation in muzzle velocity, resulting in higher accuracy at extended ranges.

Alpha Munitions shares a kindred spirit with G9 Defense: the eternal pursuit of ballistic perfection. Their Optimized Case Head Design (OCD) far exceeds performance standards typically associated with cases. Their innovative technology is combined with industry-leading manufacturing standards and the result is second-to-none. Their elevated level of performance, combined with uncanny consistency, makes their brass the obvious match for G9’s 6.5 Creedmoor brass projectile line. Expect single digit standard deviations and next level accuracy. Learn more about Alpha Munitions at www.alphamunitions.com
