The Arc’teryx LEAF Talos LT Halfshell is a combat shirt unlike any other on the market. I bought one when they first hit the market a couple months back and I’ve worn it on the range as well as for chores during cooler weather. It is very comfortable and I would consider a standard, true to size cut so it’s not overly tight or baggy either. It is also long enough that it will stay tucked in.
The Talos LT Halfshell is made from a no melt, no drip NYCO 50/50 Cordura yoke/shoulder and 60/40 knit body with articulated elbows, shoulders, and gusseted armpit for full freedom of motion. There are zippered, inset pockets in either upper arm with pile patches. The cuffs feature slotted buttons but the most striking feature is the Rugby-style collar with flat front opening.

From its inception, the Arc’teryx LEAF Khard pack was designed to accept internal pouches to help organize the load. But this was something that Arc’teryx left to industry to develop so that there would be several options available. LBX Tactical initially came up with 37 pockets that were unveiled at SHOT Show. Now, many of them are available through Tactical Distributors.
During SHOT Show Arc’teryx launched the new Mattock Drysock LT which marked their first foray into footwear. There have been GORE-TEX® socks on the market for decades so the question you have to ask yourself is, “Why should I choose the Mattock?”
We just opened the pool so I had Tactical Fanboy put on the Mattock last night and left him soaking overnight to see how he fared. Just kidding, it wasn’t overnight, but he experienced two sessions. One thing he didn’t notice was one of the most common sensations when wearing GORE-TEX® in a fully submerged environment. Even after 15 minutes he didn’t notice that slight clamminess you may experience when you wear GORE-TEX® next to the skin. This was thanks to his Darn Tough socks and trouser legs. He said he could feel the pressure of the water pushing the Mattock tight against his feet and legs but that he was bone dry. Once he came out of the pool, his clothing and feet were perfectly dry. Arc’teryx has that seam taping down to a science.
Having worn them, I feel there are three things that make the Mattock stand out. First, the fit. Designed to be worn inside footwear, the Mattock are sized XS – XXL and articulated to integrate with the footbed. This will help with hot spots but I suggest that you consider your sock thickness and boot fit when choosing your Mattock. Also, take a little care when putting your boots on in order to smooth the material of the Mattock as much as possible in order to avoid creating pressure points.
Second is the height. The Mattock goes all the way to the knee so that you won’t step into a puddle and walk out with a sock full of water.
And finally, is the Velcro strap that keeps the Mattock in place so that you aren’t spending all of your time pulling them up.
Overall, the advantage offered by the Mattock is pretty big. You can add the protection of GORE-TEX® to your feet when you need it, essentially upgrading your boots for wet environments. Offered in Crocodile and MultiCam.

The other day we shared a photo from the Irish Sun depicting a member wearing Arc’teryx LEAF Talos combat clothing in Wolf Grey. Some readers didn’t believe that the photo was of a Garda member since he wasn’t wearing Black. Maybe this video will help clear things up?

Officers from Ireland’s elite counter-terrorist Police task force, the Garda ERU, hosted a European Union (EU) Coordinated Anti-Terror Exercise as part of Europe’s ‘ATLAS’ law enforcement network at an abandoned power generating site in Dublin. The exercise involved elements from land, sea and air, all designed to replicate a response to an extensive terror attack, either domestic or foreign.
Gardai have also confirmed that specially-trained Police men and women will undertake sea patrols during the 39th G8 Summit in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland (United Kingdom) this summer – June 2013 – to prevent against any threats to the worldwide governmental forum. The Guards will be working alongside members from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), UK Intelligence Agencies, such as MI5 and MI6, and the British Military.
