AUSA 2021: SMART SHOOTER to Present its SMASH Fire Control Systems, and Announce a New Contract with the US Marine Corps

Tuesday, October 5th, 2021

The US Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory has recently purchased the SMASH 2000 Fire Control System for counter UAS purposes

AUSA 2021, Stand 4418

[October 2021]: SMART SHOOTER, a world-class designer, developer, and manufacturer of innovative fire control systems that significantly increase the accuracy and lethality of small arms, will present its SMASH family of solutions at the AUSA Exhibition in Washington DC, USA. Towards the exhibition, the company announces that the United States Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory, through its Rapid Capabilities Office (MCRCO), has recently purchased several SMASH 2000 systems for Test & Evaluation.  The systems will be delivered this Fall.

The company has also signed a cooperative research & development agreement with US Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane). Under this agreement, the US Navy will evaluate the use of SMASH technology on ships and vessels for Counter-UAS purposes. This collaboration aims to perform joint integration and evaluation of Smart Shooter’s technology with weapons and ammunition currently supporting the US Navy’s mission. With an increased hit probability for small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) and increased engagement range, Smart Shooter’s SMASH technology has demonstrated the potential to increase the Navy’s ability to engage sUAS at the individual level – using existing weapons and ammunition in inventory.

Michal Mor, SMART SHOOTER CEO: We are honored to announce that the US Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory and NSWC Crane have chosen our technology to better protect against the ever-growing drone threat at land and sea. Featuring built-in targeting algorithms that can track and hit even very small drones, SMASH fire control systems put a precision anti-drone capability at the fingertips of its users, and we are happy to present our innovative solutions at the AUSA exhibition.”

SMASH Fire Control System (FCS) is an external add-on solution that can be integrated into any type of military rifle. Once the user identifies the target (independently or using the detection system guidance) and locks on it, SMASH tracks its movements and synchronizes the shot release to assure a fast and precise hit on the target.  SMASH can be operated as a stand-alone solution as well as combined with other systems to provide an effective multi-layer defense solution.

Smart Shooter will present the SMASH 2000 as well as the SMASH Hopper Remote-Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS) and other members of the SMASH family of FCS at the AUSA exhibition, stand 4418.

AUSA 2021: Logos Technologies Unveils MicroKestrel Wide-Area Sensor for Tethered UAS

Friday, September 24th, 2021

World’s smallest wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) system, MicroKestrel delivers persistent surveillance to a whole new group of military and homeland security sensor operations

FAIRFAX, Va.— September 23, 2021 — Logos Technologies LLC, a leader in wide-area motion imagery (WAMI), announced today that it will be unveiling its new MicroKestrel sensor for small, tethered, multirotor-type unmanned aerial systems (UASs) at the upcoming Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Meeting & Exposition, in Washington, D.C.

When mounted on a tethered UAS and hovering at 200 feet, a single MicroKestrel can image three square kilometers, tracking every vehicle and detecting every moving dismount within its 180-degree field of regard. The WAMI system can also cue high-definition video cameras for close-in inspection should an operator require a positive identification of a target.

“The amazing thing, though, is MicroKestrel’s weight. At just under 5 pounds, the new WAMI system is so light that some tethered UAS can actually accommodate two units, each pointed in a different direction,” said Doug Rombough, VP of Business Development for Logos Technologies. “In such a doubled-up configuration, you get twice the coverage area and a 360-degree field of view.”

The idea of getting WAMI on a small, tethered unmanned aerial vehicles once seemed impossible. Now, these sensors will be able to go on tethered UAVs or free-flying UAVs that have been connected to a third-party tethering station. This greatly expands the types of operators who will be able to use WAMI.

“People who would never have access to runway or catapult-launched UAVs, let alone big Predators, can pop open a container, set up a tethered UAV, and launch a WAMI sensor into the air,” said Rombough. “Think about what that means for base protection, event security, or other mission sets.”

Logos Technologies will be showcasing MicroKestrel and other sensor systems at the company’s booth (No. 1143) at AUSA, on October 11-13.

AUSA 2020 ANNUAL MEETING GOES VIRTUAL

Photo by: Amanda Andrade-Rhoades for AUSA

Tuesday, July 21, 2020

The Association of the U.S. Army’s 2020 Annual Meeting and Exposition will be held virtually this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“After careful and detailed consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to convert the 2020 AUSA Annual Meeting from an in-person meeting to a virtual experience,” said retired Gen. Carter Ham, AUSA president and CEO. “Based on health and safety considerations and ongoing restrictions on large gatherings, it is not possible for us to conduct an in-person meeting as we had originally envisioned.”

Planning is underway for a four-day virtual meeting beginning Tuesday, Oct. 13, and concluding on Friday, Oct. 16. Like live events in the past, the virtual meeting will feature addresses by top Army and national security leaders, professional military forums and presentations by industry.

Registration for the new virtual meeting is expected to open by September.

Switching to a virtual event was a “tough call,” Ham said. “The Annual Meeting is an incredibly important event and one of our favorite ways to celebrate everything that unites us, but health and safety must come first,” he said. “We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event as we had envisioned, but we know it’s the right decision.”

AUSA is now coordinating details for the virtual event, and team members will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and sponsors about new opportunities.

“While it may not replace the full experience of the in-person AUSA Annual Meeting, it will serve to keep us connected with Army senior leaders and messages, with industry partners and with AUSA members around the globe,” Ham said. “We are planning for a forum that allows reach beyond the 33,000-plus people we expected to see in Washington, D.C., this year.”

The AUSA team also is already looking forward to the 2021 Annual Meeting and “a grand reunion” scheduled for Oct. 11-13, 2021, in Washington, D.C., Ham said.
