A-TACS Deal from The Sportsmans Guide

Apparently, The Sportsman’s Guide bought out the A-TACS run of the EOTAC Direct Action Recce Smock and Pants as well as A-TACS versions of the Operator Pant and Shirt. Before Remington pulled the plug on the EOTAC brand they placed orders with their factories for a run of their smock and pants in the A-TACS pattern. Still no word on of the combat shorts were ever actually manufactured. The garments are a ripstop cotton blend and feature pattern matched elbow and knee reinforcements.

Gets yours before they are gone. Due to the closeout nature of the offering they are priced to sell and won’t be available for long. Sizes vary due to stock.

Diggerworks – Cracking the ‘Nut’

This is officially my favorite Soldier Modernization briefing of ALL time. From the organization named Diggerworks, to the title of the briefing, this is just great. It also gives us some great glimpses into the Australian Defence Force’s fielding of the Enhanced Soldier Combat Ensemble in MultiCam.

Diggerworks is a “virtual organisation comprising agencies involved in soldier combat systems (SCS).” And, it is important to note that, “Diggerworks is not Land 125 rebadged.” This means they aren’t giving the program a spiffy new name but rather adding value by including more stake holders in the discussion.

Their mission is simple –

“Diggerworks is to identify options and deliver integrated soldier combat systems solutions in order to enhance the capability of the warfighter”

Moreover, they are working on Adaptive Acquisition which is something we’d like to see more of here in the US.

Adaptive Acquisition

– “Buy less more often”
– Enable change to happen quicker
– No longer is everyone to be equipped the same
– The close combatant is to be treated differently

New Images of Propper’s in TAC.U Combat Shirt A-TACS

The new A-TACS TAC.U Combat Shirt by Propper will be available beginning September.

The design features pocketed shoulders that allow for the addition of extra padding, Velcro on the rear of the collar for nametape, zippered pockets on the sleeves, thumb holes and loop fasteners on the cuffs, pouches on the outside of the elbows for padding, and gusseted underarms. The sleeves are manufactured from a 65/35 poly/cotton “battlerip” ripstop weave, and the body of the shirt has a 60/40 knitted cotton/poly mix. It is currently available for pre-order through several A-TACS retailers and is expected to begin shipping in September.

Eagle Flight Suits

At the beginning of the month, we let you know about the new commercial Tactical Flight Duty Uniforms (TFDU) authorized for wear by USAF C130 and HH60 crews in the CENTCOM AOR. This is the Eagle TFDU specified in the AFCENT instruction which has actually been available for several years and has seen service with other organizations. It is currently available in Tan and Sage Green. Reading through AFCENT 36-2903, it never specifies what color is required but implies Tan in para.3.7.3.3. Desert patrol cap or desert floppy hat, “boonie” is authorized for wear.

From the Instruction:

3.7.2. Procurement: Through rigorous AFE testing and flight testing, three sets of TFDUs have been approved for wear. The TFDU will be purchased with unit funds. Manufacturers who have met ACC requirements and styles authorized are:

Italian tactical clothing firm SOD Gear has licensed their designs to US-based Four Spears. We are huge fans of SOD Gear and welcome this new opportunity to purchase their products.

In 30 days, SOD USA will launch. They have developed a phased approach to introducing the line here in the US including FR options.
