Users can search the guide by caliber, type of action or stock, by year of production, country of origin, or any other way and will get all the tech specs, prices, features and up to 12 high-resolution pictures per gun. That is the reason why Firearms Guide is used by many police forces in the world as a firearms identification tool” says Chris Mijic, publisher of Firearms Guide.

The Flash Drive Edition is independent gun database that works without internet and will work for years to come” says Chris Mijic, publisher of Firearms Guide. The Flash Drive Edition keeps privacy private.

Bringing Skunkworks Back: Armalite AR-10A2 Carbine Revived by Frank Woods

Monday, June 1st, 2020

I felt like doing an XM177 style AR-308 because I’ve never seen one before. So I did. I call this one “XM762-E1.” Since I reused the Blood Diamond carbine configuration as far as attachments go, I also nicknamed it “BD²” (Big Daddy Blood Diamond, Big Dick Blood Diamond, Blood Diamond 2: Judgement Day, whatever.)

– It is an AWB era Armalite AR-10A2 Carbine upper receiver, with a new Armalite AR-10A lower receiver. It is therefore an Armalite AR-10 through and through.

– It feeds from SR25/DPMS spec magazines.

– The upper receiver was internally modified to facilitate that function, by milling out the stabilizer shelves meant to hold the AWB AR-10B era modified M14 magazines in place.

– The upper receiver was rebarreled with a 1/10 twist 16″ barrel, that was hybrid in nature: Armalite “Carbine” style Midlength gas, DPMS spec barrel extension.

– The factory AR-10B BCG was replaced with a DPMS spec compatible BCG, the Brownells BRN-10 Retro BCG.

– It’s not an SBR.

– “Midlength” does not mean “Midlength” in AR-308 land. Midlength means whatever the manufacturer says it is in Midlength gas.

The barrel is 16″, and a slip over faux suppressor with compensator ports was used as the muzzle device, since no .308 version of an XM177 repro style muzzle device exists.

This retained the 16″ barrel accuracy and ballistic performance, taming the .308 recoil with the compensator function, and completed the XM177 moderator look as closely as possible, without a carbine length gas system 12.5″ barrel causing the rifle to beat the shit out of itself.

Furniture was spray painted Aervoe Earth Brown. Grip is a Brownells Retro AR-10 repro they made for the BRN-10.

“I want one!”

1.) Do what I did, track down an Armalite AR-10A2 upper, modify the internals, pair it with a factory Armalite lower, rebarrel/reBCG with a hybrid spec barrel and DPMS spec BCG, drive on.

2.) Maybe try to convince Armalite to revive or do a run of their A2 upper receivers, only compatible with their AR-10A series lowers?

3.) Maybe try to convince someone else like Fulton Armory to reproduce the AR-10A2 style upper receiver and a matching lower, albeit to SR25/DPMS spec?

Doesn’t count if the receivers aren’t angular cut, that curved DPMS stuff is wack.

I’ve written a full article that explains what went into this project in detail. When it’s posted, I’ll share it.

Federal’s New Terminal Ascent Component Bullet Delivers the Best All-range Performance for Hunting Handloads

Wednesday, April 29th, 2020

ANOKA, Minnesota – April 24, 2020 – New Federal Premium Terminal Ascent component bullets deliver unprecedented performance for hunters who handload. The bullets’ bonded construction fuels deep penetration on close targets, while the patented Slipstream polymer tip initiates expansion on long-range targets. The bullets’ long, sleek profile offers an extremely high ballistic coefficient (BC), and its AccuChannel groove technology improves accuracy and minimizes drag. Now available in a full selection bullet weights and diameters for handloading the most popular long-range cartridges. Shipments of this product have begun to arrive at dealers.

Terminal Ascent’s solid copper shank and bonded lead core retain weight for deep penetration and energy dump, delivering extremely effective wound channels and terminal performance. A large hollow cavity in the bullet nose, along with exterior jacket skiving, further aid expansion and penetration. Serrations allow petals to peel back on contact at velocities as low as 1,400 fps—speeds typically seen 1,200 yards downrange in the 200-grain 30-caliber loads.

“Terminal Ascent features grooving along the shank to improve accuracy across a range of rifles, while decreasing barrel wear and fouling,” said Federal Centerfire Product Director Mike Holm. “However, unlike conventional grooving, the AccuChannel’s highly technical shape accomplishes these goals with only a minimal increase in drag. No other bullet has this grooving technology.”

The bullet’s Slipstream Tip features patent-pending hollow-core technology. A small cavity runs the length of the shank all the way up to just below the point itself. That point breaks free upon impact, allowing fluid to enter the hollow core, where it generates pressure and easy expansion, even at low velocities. The Slipstream Tip’s hollow core sets it apart from all other polymer tips on the market—but it’s also unique in its high resistance to the elevated temperatures a bullet experiences during flight.

“In addition to the AccuChannel and Slipstream Tip, our engineers incorporated other important features to boost BC, delivering flat trajectories and less wind drift,” said Holm. “The result of all these design elements is both close-range and long-range terminal performance with both accuracy and reliability. And with that ability to expand at the lowest velocity of 1,400 fps, the bullet is sure to be a hit with shooters using shorter-barrel rifles or hunting handguns.”

Features & Benefits
• Match-grade long-range accuracy in a bonded hunting bullet
• Extremely high ballistic coefficient
• Exclusive Slipstream polymer tip helps flatten trajectories and initiate low-velocity expansion
• Less wind drift and drop
• AccuChannel groove technology minimizes drag
• Copper shank and bonded lead core retain weight for deep penetration at any range

Federal ammunition can be found at dealers nationwide or purchased online direct from Federal. For more information on all products from Federal or to shop online, visit www.federalpremium.com

Neo-Retro: The 21st Century AR-180

Monday, December 16th, 2019

Neo-Retro, via Brownells, Inc., Geissele Automatics, LLC, NoDak Spud, Law Tactical LLC, and Magpul Industries Corp.

Thanks to Brownells introducing an AR-180 upper receiver and Nodak offering the Spud NDS-1815 lower receiver, you can build your own AR-180 clone. This one was built by Frank Woods.

Components:

Brownells BRN-180 18.5″ barrel URG

Nodak Spud NDS-1815 lower receiver

LAW Tactical Gen 3-M folding stock adapter

Geissele Super LPK

Geissele SSA

Magpul Type 1 rail panels

Magpul Fixed Carbine Stock

Magpul MOE Grip

Magpul MS1 QDM sling

Magpul M-LOK QD socket

Troy Micro height M4 style BUIS

Tried to get it as close to the AR-180 I could in looks while also taking the newer architecture into account. I already had the stock and it looks damn near close enough to the original AR-180 stock while also being aesthetically in line with the M-LOK rail. The BUIS were chosen because they closest resembled the AR-180 iron sights in both height and appearance (yes, I know they’re backwards.)

I didn’t give it the Tiger Stripe layout treatment because I’m convinced Brownells has an AR-180 style AR15 grip (along the same lines as their AR10 and Retro A1 grips) in the works that they’re staying tight lipped about until SHOT. That’ll be the finishing touch on this otherwise quick turnaround of a Black Friday project.
