Texas Tactical Police Officers Association After Action Report

Sunday, May 5th, 2024

ROUND ROCK, Texas – April 28, 2024 – The Texas Tactical Police Officers Association recently held its 40th annual state conference; title sponsored this year by Sons of Liberty Gun Works. The conference was held over five days at the Kalahari Resort in central Texas, with more than 800 officers attending from tactical teams across multiple states. This was a 200-person increase from the previous year.

Wednesday of the conference included a Range Day, sponsored by Staccato. Approximately 45 vendors brought their firearms and tactical equipment for demonstration and testing by attendees. The range day included a side match competition benefiting the foundation recently created by the wife of fallen Austin Police officer Jorge Pastore, who was killed during a hostage rescue operation in November 2023. Over $4,000 was raised by officers for the foundation, and Staccato donated a pistol for the competition that was given to the winner.

Thursday and Friday were devoted to a vendor show inside the Kalahari Resort, primarily sponsored by First Spear. Two hundred vendor businesses attended the trade show, with more than 20 registering as Platinum Sponsors. TTPOA partnered with several vendors for frequent giveaway contests during the show.  Local walk-in traffic boosted the vendor show attendance to over 1000. This was the second year in a row that the TTPOA sold out vendor space for the conference, even with an expanded footprint from the previous year. The TTPOA also hosted several operational debriefs at the resort from different agencies who had experienced unique or high-profile tactical situations over the previous year. Friday eveningat the conference banquet, over $70,000 in training and firearms donated by vendors were given away during a raffle fundraiser for the Association.

The 800 attendees spent Saturday and Sunday participating in 56 different classes to choose from, held at 12 different ranges and facilities across the Austin area. TTPOA hosted several nationally renowned firearms and tactics instructors as well as SWAT instructors from across Texas; focusing on areas of rifle and pistol shooting, team CQB tactics, night vision work, long-range shooting, combatives, emotional and psychological well-being, K9 encounters, less-lethal devices, and operational planning. Attendees received TCOLE credit for the classes they attended.

Dan Colasanto, TTPOA President, had high praise for the record-setting event and looked forward to future years: “At this year’s Conference we broke a record for attendance. Our attendance numbers have been steadily increasing over the last few years and we anticipate 1000 attendees in the future. We continue to provide top notch instruction from some of the best instructors in the nation. Fortunately, we are able to do this at an affordable price and will continue to do so. Future events will include our annual SWAT Competition as well as a Sniper competition. Hope to see you at one or all of these events.”

Andy Adkins, TTPOA Vendor coordinator, had specific thanks for all the conference vendors: “Our Vendors are amazing and make our show first class; as well as creating the avenue for TTPOA to accomplish its primary mission to put quality training in the grasp of law enforcement officers from around the world. I want to emphasize my sincere thanks to SOLGW as our Title Sponsor for the entire Conference; as well as Staccato, FirstSpear, and 5.11 Tactical for unbelievable support as well. It’s always one of the times of the year I look forward to the most. Our vendors do a phenomenal job of bringing the most innovative gear and products to put in the hands of officers from around the country. The products created, released, and displayed at our show make it clear that these companies are dedicated to the men and women serving their communities and their objective of making their hometowns a better place to be. So to our Vendors, on behalf of the TTPOA and its membership, THANK YOU!!! To the LEOs and active USMIL folks thinking about checking us out next year, you won’t be disappointed!!!”

The TTPOA has also announced they have signed a five-year contract with Kalahari Resorts to hold the annual conference at their Austin-area resort for the next five years, through 2029. With future construction plans underway for Kalahari conference floor space and hotel capacity, TTPOA anticipates being able to accommodate more vendors and conference attendees at the Round Rock Kalahari.

Registration is currently open for the annual TTPOA SWAT Competition, to be hosted this year by the Harris County Sheriff’s Department from October 2 – October 6 in Harris County, Texas. Last year’s competition hosted 36 teams, with several from out of state. Interested competitors can find more info at ttpoa.org. The SWAT competition will also be open to any interested vendors for a two-day vendor show at the competition facilities.

Together, We Save Lives: Safariland Hosts SAVES CLUB Event to Honor Injured Officers

Saturday, April 13th, 2024

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Safariland®, a brand of The Safariland Group®, a leading global provider of safety products designed for the public safety, military, professional and outdoor markets and one of Cadre Holdings, Inc.’s (NYSE: CDRE) (“Cadre”) key brands, is proud to host its annual SAVES CLUB® Presentation on April 11, 2024, at its Jacksonville headquarters. The Safariland SAVES CLUB recognizes and honors officers who endured a life-threatening incident while in the line of duty, in which their Safariland Group armor or gear played a crucial role in saving their lives.

“The event serves as a platform to celebrate the bravery and resilience of the remarkable 2,193 SAVES members. We are excited to welcome three officers to share their inspiring SAVES stories,” said Brad Williams, president of Safariland. “These officers have not only survived life-threatening situations but have also become advocates for the law enforcement community. They are living proof of Safariland’s creed: Together, We Save Lives.”

Safariland will proudly host Officer Genevieve Bone, SAVES #2186, from the Memphis Police Department. On September 3, 2023, Officer Bone responded to an armed party disturbance at a convenience store. Despite facing a suspect armed with guns, knives, and a hand grenade, Officer Bone fearlessly confronted the assailant. She sustained three strikes to her chest with a fixed-blade knife. Thanks to her Safariland XT03 level II armor, Officer Bone’s life was spared, and she successfully apprehended the suspect, who has since been charged with attempted second-degree murder.

Officer Derek Williams from the Dallas Police Department, SAVES #2185, will also be honored. On September 14, 2023, Officer Williams and his partner witnessed a suspect commit a homicide. During the pursuit, the assailant opened fire with a .9mm handgun, hitting Officer Williams in the lower right abdominal area. Fortunately, his Safariland SX02 Level IIIA armor stopped the round. The Dallas SWAT team later apprehended the assailant, and Officer Williams has since returned to full duty.

The third honored SAVES member is Narcotics Detective Sean Stumpf from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, SAVES #2168. On January 2, 2023, Detective Stumpf and his partner engaged in a high-stakes pursuit of a suspect who had taken the life of the Chief of Police of a local agency earlier that day and injured another officer. During the pursuit, the suspect opened fire with a fully automatic 9mm Glock, hitting Detective Stumpf in the arm and center of his chest. His Safariland SM02 Level II armor protected his chest, and he was able to return fire alongside his partner, ultimately ending the threat. After undergoing surgery on his arm, Detective Stumpf made a full recovery and is back on active duty.

Safariland is honored to recognize these brave officers and their unwavering commitment to protecting their communities. The SAVES CLUB event will serve as a testament to Safariland’s commitment to providing high-quality protective equipment to the law enforcement community and reaffirm their dedication to prioritizing officer safety.

Safariland continues to innovate and provide solutions that enhance the performance and effectiveness of those who rely on safety equipment for optimal protection. To learn more, visit Safariland.com.

Netherlands’ RIOT Police Unit Equipped with Flame Retardant Uniforms from UF PRO

Wednesday, March 27th, 2024

KOMENDA, SLOVENIA (22.03.2024)

UF PRO, a leading name in the tactical clothing industry, unveiled its latest flame retardant uniform designed for the Netherlands’ crowd and riot control operations during a public debut at the event held in Ossendrecht, Netherlands.

Over 3,500 Sets Deployed for Enhanced Operations

In collaboration with Gear Point, UF PRO’s distributor in the Netherlands, the National Police Services Agency (Politiedienstencentrum) has equipped their RIOT Police Unit (Mobiele Eenheid) with these advanced uniforms. The initial deployment plan includes 3,500 uniform sets for deployment in 2024.

Innovative Flame Retardant Uniforms

The newly introduced uniform system features several flame retardant (FR) components, including the Striker X FR Combat Pants, Striker X FR Combat Shirt, Delta Eagle Gen.3. FR Jacket, and Monsoon XT Gen.2 FR Rain Jacket.

Darko Radoš Roth, Sales Manager at UF PRO, expressed enthusiasm about the innovative design, stating:

“UF PRO is setting new standards in the development of crowd and riot control uniform systems with its innovative dual-use design. This design allows for a seamless transition between everyday police work and crowd and riot control without the need for changing clothes.”

Crafted for exceptional flame retardancy and breathability, the uniform systems are tailored to meet the distinct needs of crowd and riot control police units. They offer robust protection against flames and intense heat, prioritising comfort, functionality, and ease of movement.

Collaboration with Industry Leaders

UF PRO collaborates with industry leaders W.L. Gore & Associates (Gore) and Schoeller Textil AG to ensure the highest quality and innovative flame retardant technology in their garment systems.

The Delta Eagle Jacket and Rain Jacket feature Gore’s innovative flame retardant PYRAD® technology, which effectively reduces heat flow through the fabric and prevents the spread of flames. Additionally, the Rain Jacket offers 100% waterproof capabilities, thanks to the GORE-TEX 3-layer waterproof and breathable laminate.

Schoeller’s pioneering pyroshell technology, found in UF PRO’s Combat Shirts and Pants, revolutionises fire safety. By transforming conventional materials into non-burning layers upon heat exposure, it provides active protection and enhances comfort. Through bonding and mixing processes, Schoeller ensures optimal flame retardancy, shielding wearers from direct flame exposure.

Rigorous Testing

All UF PRO’s FR garment systems undergo rigorous testing, including the Thermo Man test, conducted by the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (EMPA). This ensures comprehensive evaluation and real-life protection against intense heat and flames. If you’re interested in learning more about the testing process for flame retardant clothing, you can find additional information here.

UF PRO’s collaboration with the Netherlands’ National Police Services Agency (Politiedienstencentrum) signifies a significant advancement in crowd and riot control uniform systems, promoting safer and more comfortable policing.

SOTECH Debuts Their Springnose Taser 10/7 Holster, Airborne Cobra and Light Infantry Suspension System

Friday, January 26th, 2024

SOTech will be unveiling an array of new product designs at SHOT Show this year.  We’ve spent the better part of 2023 conducting field tests and interviewing soldiers from the 82nd ABN, Ranger Regt, Special Forces and 25th ID developing our Light Infantry Suspension System, Airborne Cobra Pack, and medical systems.  These tests are culminating in review by the Army over upcoming months.  The LISS supports ensembles including rifleman, medic, leader, SAW gunner, grenadier and breacher which will be on display.  The jumpable arrangement of the Cobra pack and our new series of scrim and ruck covers will also be shown.  Come by booth 20059 to check them out, and if you can’t make it to SHOT, check them out in our catalogs at: sotechtactical.com/pages/catalogs   US Patents and Patents Pending

After dominating the soft-shell market for Axon Tasers for 25 years, SOTECH launches its first plastic holster.  Rather than adopting a pistol holster to a taser, SOTECH designed the Springnose TM around the features and requirements of both a Taser 7 and Taser 10.  We worked closely with LAPD Training Division to absorb their requirements and lessons learned.  We came up with a holster design that encompassed these features:

• Accessed with either strong hand or weekhand draw.

• Slim body design takes minimal space on the belt.

• Downward and rearward draw eliminates accidental weapon misidentification.

• Compressing taser against spring plate and rotating rearward provides quick draw.

• Extra retention strap with thumb snap is removable, and sewn semi rigid.

• Secondary weapon release provided by thumb depression of top hook.

• Officer can screw adjust to forward, vertical, or rearward cant.

• Officer can rearrange holster to right or left-hand wear.

• Field repairable as bottom cap is removable for access to spring compartment.

• Belt clip secures with unique inverted buttons.

• Belt clip fits 2 ¼ patrol belt and inner clip fits dress belts.

• Made in USA and US Patented and Patents Pending.
