Post SHOT Show Wrapup – Aimpoint Magnifiers

Tuesday, January 26th, 2016

During FirstSpear’s Range Day, we ran across Aimpoint’s new magnifiers.  Below is the Aimpont press release which offers additional information but we’d like to clarify something we put out last week.  Turns out there are professional grade magnifiers in both 3x and 6x versions while the commercial variant is only offered in a 3x model.
Las Vegas, NV – January 19, 2016 – Aimpoint, the originator and worldwide leader in electronic red-dot sighting technology, has announced the addition of three new accessory magnifiers to their product line. Designed to work in conjunction with the company’s electronic reflex sights, these new magnifiers are being offered in 3X and 6X magnification, in both a standard grade for use by civilian shooters, as well as professional grade models.

The new Aimpoint magnifiers feature diopter adjustment, allowing each optic to be individually adapted to the operator’s eye. All are protected by shock absorbing protective rubber covers that also provide an ergonomic grip surface. The Aimpoint magnifiers may be used with the company’s quick-detach TwistMount™, or with the newly launched Aimpoint® FlipMount which allows the magnifier to be quickly flipped in or out of the optical axis, or removed from the firearm completely.

“These magnifiers open up some interesting new opportunities for users of Aimpoint sights.” said Matt Swenson, VP of Sales at Aimpoint Inc. “Our standard grade 3X-C is a great magnifier at a very reasonable price point. On the professional side, the Aimpoint 6XMag offers 50% more magnification than existing US military combat optics, and allows an operator to quickly transition back to their non-magnified Micro T-2 sight for CQB.”

SHOT Show – Hartman Ltd.

DSC07452

At the Kalashnikov USA booth, among with the new products was a futuristic-looking reflex sight, called the MH1. The MH1 was developed by Mikey Hartman, a Lt. Col. (Ret.) of the IDF, and the founder and former 20-year commander of the IDF Marksmanship and Sharpshooting School. The MH1 was designed to improve shooter performance as much as accuracy. To that end, it has a number of interesting features.

DSC07443

To start, the MH1 features a 35 x 24mm viewing window, which according to Hartman is the largest currently on the market; the intent behind the larger window is to maximize target acquisition speed for the shooter. The MH1 also features rear panel controls, which are angled and ambidextrous, allowing them to be used even when wearing gloves or if a magnification or night vision scope is mounted behind the sight.

The HM1 is also powered by two separate battery systems: a USB-rechargeable battery, and a single CR123 battery. The optic utilizes the rechargeable battery first, then uses the backup CR123 when the former runs out of power.

DSC07448

Above you can see the ‘Accuracy Enhanced Reticle’, which consists of a center red dot and horizontal lines at 3 & 9 o’clock. The intent of this design is two-fold: it’s designed to allow the user to maintain the weapon on a vertical plane to avoid red dot cant issues, and the horizontal lines also allow users to utilize them as a ballistics aiming system.

Additional features include:

  • Built to MIL-STD-801F standard
  • True Parallax free optic design
  • Antireflection coating
  • MIL-STD 1913 locking mechanism
  • Nitrogen-filled fog-resistant internal optics
  • Sleep mode
  • Be on the look out for the Hartman MH1 later this year.

    SHOT Show – Unifire/BAE Systems/Ace Electronics

    Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

Developed by Ace Electronics, this battery box was developed as a remote power source for OASYS IR Sensor customers who can’t access CR123As. Instead, it accepts 4 lithium or alkaline AA batteries and not only can be used in lieu of the 123s but will also extend the life of an OASYS optic by about 4.5 hours. Tye battery paxk mounts to a Mil Std 1913 rail and is waterproof.

Available through Unifire and other authorized dealers.

SHOT Show – Balor Mount by Raven Concealment Systems

    Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

Designed to fit any 9mm or .40 double stack GLOCK, the Balor is a two-piece design that requires no gunsmithing or alteration of your slide other than removing the rear sight and backplate.

One component slides into the rear sight dovetail and the other takes the place of the factory backplate. Once emplaced, the two components are automatically centered in order to bolt together. The result is a strong clamp-like effect on the slide. Steel construction means that it won’t fall apart through thousands of rounds.

Another really cool feature is that it incorporates back up iron sights across the mount itself. The rear is a line that can be filled in by the user and the front is a GLOCK sight.

Available for the Aimpoint T-1 and Trijicon RMR. Shipping 1 May.

    SHOT Show – EOTech

    Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

We’ll be blunt: for obvious reasons, we didn’t know what EOTech’s presence was going to be at this year’s SHOT; we partially wondered if they would even show up. However, business must continue, and it seems that’s no exception for the EOTech brand. This year, they forgoed any additions to their line of Holographic sights, and instead displayed a new line of Vudu Precision Rifle Scopes.

    DSC07057

The Vudu scopes come in multiple magnifications and reticle configurations, however the various models, which come in 1-6x, 2.5-10x, and 3.5-18x magnifications, do share virtually the same universal features.

    DSC07058

The Vudu line scopes feature single-piece aircraft-grade aluminum construction, and are water, fog, and shock-resistant, with a hard anodized finish. Additional construction features include tactical-style turrets, laser-etched travel indicators, push-button illumination controls, and a single construction eyepiece. Optical features include XC high-density, low-dispersion glass, first focal plane reticle, glass-etched reticle, and illuminated reticle.

SHOT Show – FirstSpear VAS Soft Harness

    Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

FirstSpear has introduced a Soft Harness for Visual Augmentation Systems (NVGs).  It features an adjustable chinstrap with Team Wendy’s dial at the rear as well as a Wilcox shroud.

I really like the padding at the brown and the skull cap for the rear of the head to keep it in place.

SHOT Show – Elite Defense Debuts Specter Holographic Combat Optic by Elcan

    Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

This is really big news. Elite Defense is now representing the Specter line of optics from Elcan and they’re debuting a pre-production version of the Specter, Holographic Combat Optic.

They advertise 1200 hours on nominal setting (12 daytime, 3 NVG) from a cross mounted CR123A. it offers a latger field of view than its closest competitor and is manufactired from an aluminum housing for strength. It features a solid state optical path and Elcan has conducted exhaustive testing to ensure the is no thermal drift up to the design target range of -40 to 160 deg F. The are no moving parts in the optical path so there is no room for moisture incursion. There are two reticle options, 72 MOA circle with 1 MOA dot as well as just a 1 MOA dot.

The Specter HCO begins shipping in May.
