For the start of 2023, Prometheus Design Werx introduces their W.U.U.L.F. Pack 24L. This design is a modern interpretation of the classic, alpine style, top loading, summit assault pack. While this pack is dialed more towards wilderness and backcountry use, it features numerous, practical details for urban use as well, and a well-rounded daypack for multiple use cases. The W.U.U.L.F. Pack 24L is highlighted by an updated and unique design feature which is the center front 2-way zipper. This style zipper opening allows a secondary B.E. access/entry point into the main compartment with the top lid closed, and when the top lid is opened and laid flat on any suitable surface, can be fully zipped opened to allow access to nearly 90% of the main compartment.
The W.U.U.L.F. Pack 24L is a part of Prometheus Design Werx’s PRO-Line. Available in Universal Field Gray, and Ranger Green as an exclusive to the brand GRR.
The Design and R&D Team at PDW states:
“The WUULF Pack 24L is at its core, a mountain pack. The pack name is derived from the words, ‘Wilderness Utility Urban Lay Flat’, which describes its basic functional criteria. It draws it design from the classic, single point top loaders from an earlier era. Top loading backpacks are the simplest method of pack entry and has been in use from the earliest days of backpack design. This design is not prone to failure and even if the top lid becomes inoperable, the pack body can still hold its contents. Unlike a zippered panel loader where if the zipper fails, so will the pack, and become useless. Other considerations were the metals buckles at the request of rock climbers; metal buckles will not crack if accidently stepped on like the nylon or acetyl type. Besides the modern additions of a loop panel for morale patches, ventilated ripple foam padding, laptop sleeve, and laser cut M.OLLE C.ompatible A.rray, what is notably unique to the WUULF Pack is the 2ndary entry point via the 2-way center body zipper. This allows user access into the main pack body with the top lid closed, and nearly full access to inside the pack if laid flat (like a ‘blood eagle’) with the top lid open. Finally, we created unique water bottle pockets which feature user replaceable shock cord, should they ever blow out. Unlike all other modern water bottle pockets using stretch fabrics, ours will be useable far beyond the standard life cycle.”

Sneak Peek – Tigerstripe Becker Patrol Pack from Bongo Gear
Sunday, December 4th, 2022Bongo Gear has license to produce Becker Patrol Packs and they’ve been hard at work creating variants of this classic.
This week they plan to release a run of the BPP Mk II in Tigerstripe camouflage. They are offering two variants of the new attend which they refer to as regular and olive. The only difference between these two patterns is in the green – one has the regular green and the other has an olive green. The olive green version is a bit more versatile because blends into a wider variety of environments. The production models will feature green binding tape.

Hill People Gear – Aston 3 Pack
Friday, November 18th, 202211/18/22 – Hill People Gear releases latest iteration in the Aston House series.
Hill People Gear has earned a reputation for building some of the most comfortable packs available for carrying heavier loads. Today they’re releasing the Aston 3, which replaces the discontinued Aston House and Aston House Backcountry packs. With the A3, HPG has taken lessons learned from the previous versions to create a single streamlined version which will be useful for a wide range of needs.
The A3 is a mid-sized panel loader with some helpful organizational features. The interior suspension side is lined with MOLLE cut Velcro laminate so it will accept both Velcro backed and PALS backed pouches. This area can easily be accessed via a generously sized top zipper access. It is ideal for mounting heavy items such as laptops, tools, water bladders, and radio packs. The dual zipper pulls on this access allow for an extended antenna or bladder hose to protrude from the top of the pack. In addition to this access, there is a more traditional 2/3rd height panel access on the non-suspension side of the pack for accessing whatever items are packed behind the organizational panel. There are also two external quick access zippered pockets and oversized wand pockets that have their own compression systems. All zippers are heavy #10 ykk and the fabric is 500d cordura for longevity.
Suspension on the A3 consists of HPG’s adjustable torso height shoulder harness with load lifters, full HDPE framesheet, dual 7075 aluminum stays, and mounting location for optional belt. With the belt mounted, the Aston 3 has a chassis capacity of 150lbs. There are both top and bottom compression straps as well as dual full circumference straps. Unlike its Aston House predecessors, the A3 is designed to accept any of Hill People Gear’s pack pockets. This makes it possible to plus up the capacity of the A3 for light overnight and assault pack use. On the other hand, all of the straps are removable and the compression on the wand pockets will “over compress” the bottom 1/3rd of the pack for everyday carry uses. With the configurability and compressibility, the Aston 3 allows for a wide range of uses in a single pack.
