Speer Ammunition Awarded Contract to Provide Ammunition to the New York Police Department

Monday, April 17th, 2023

LEWISTON, Idaho – April 17, 2023 – Speer Ammunition was recently awarded the New York Police Department (NYPD) 9mm duty and training handgun ammunition contract for Speer 124-grain Gold Dot. The duty handgun contract with the largest law enforcement agency in the United States will supply this agency for up to five years with an expected quantity of several million rounds.

“We are excited to report the NYPD once again chose Speer Gold Dot 9mm 124-grain +P as their ammunition of choice,” said Speer’s Senior Director of Law Enforcement Ammunition Sales, Hal Price. “The approximate 36,000 officers will use this ammunition exclusively for duty and training. We are proud of this contract win, and we are excited to have the opportunity to continue to work with the NYPD.”  The partnership with Speer and NYPD, one of the country’s most recognizable, oldest, and prestigious law enforcement agencies, began in 2001.

Speer Gold Dot has set an industry benchmark for both self-defense and duty use, earning the trust of consumers and law enforcement world-wide. The bullet features a pressure-formed lead core that is bonded to an extremely uniform jacket a single atom at a time that virtually eliminates separation on impact for more retained weight and consistent penetration depths. The Gold Dot hollow-point design expands consistently through a full range of barriers. Reliable ignition and cycling are delivered thanks to sealed primers and nickel-plated brass.

“The use of Gold Dot technology in this contract ammunition ensures the highest performance threshold and absolute confidence in performance,” continued Price. “We are extremely pleased with this prestigious contract award. It validates the high level of trust that our national law enforcement agencies have with our extremely reliable and innovative ammunition.”

Speer ammunition can be found at dealers nationwide. For more information on all products from Speer or to shop online, visit www.speer.com

GRINNELL, Iowa (April 17, 2023) –Brownells customers can quickly assemble a 9mm AR-15 style firearm with the BRN-9 — the newest Brownells BRN series complete upper receiver — in stock and shipping now.

A self-contained upper receiver chambered in 9mm, the BRN-9 is blowback operated, runs suppressed or unsuppressed without adjustment, and fits onto any standard AR-15 or BRN-180 lower receiver.

The BRN-9 is compatible with both 9mm-only lowers and common 9mm magazine well adapters, including those for Glock, Sig, Colt, CZ Scorpion and MP5 magazines.

The upper retains bolt catch functionality and works with last round bolt hold open lowers. The non-reciprocating charging handle can be switched to either side.

The barrel is 5.5” long and has 1/2″x28 muzzle threads. Integral Picatinny rail makes it easy and simple to mount optics or sights.

Ninety-Pound Rucksack Recounts Story of World War II’s 10th Mountain Division

Monday, April 17th, 2023

A new podcast, Ninety-Pound Rucksack, is recounting the story of World War II’s 10th Mountain Division and its contributions to outdoor recreation in America.

Hosted by veteran alpinist and climbing historian Christian Beckwith, the podcast offers a deep dive into the origins of the 10th, an unprecedented unit of US Army climbers and skiers who trained for more than two years in the Colorado Rockies to fight the Axis powers in extreme cold and mountainous terrain.

Informed by an advisory board of the 10th’s foremost experts, the podcast details a different chapter in the unit’s history with each episode, providing a sweeping overview of the Division’s influence on both American military and its outdoor recreation industry. Post-war, 10th Mountain Division veterans founded and developed ski areas across America, started companies like NOLS and Nike and launched the fields of avalanche science and wilderness rescue.

Based on the podcast’s first few episodes, Beckwith was invited to keynote the XVIII Airborne Corps’ Leadership Forum at Ft. Drum, New York, in February. He is now serving as an advisor to the 10th Mountain Alpine Club, a nascent organization that is helping the unit reconnect with its historic identity, and will keynote the 10th Mountain Division’s Mountain Fest 2023 in June.

Schuerch’s most recent win marks back-to-back podium finishes for the new Blackhawk athlete to kick off the 2023 Tactical Games season.

Schuerch hit the ground running with Team Blackhawk this year winning her first match at The Tactical Games Mississippi regional event in February.  Competing once again in the Women’s Elite Division, Schuerch utilized her Blackhawk T-Series® L2D holster, Blackhawk Foundation Series plate carrier, MOLLE belt, and Blackhawk Multi-Point rifle sling to secure third place against a tough field of competitors.
