Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions we’ve had regarding the magazine.

Is it reliable?

Yes! It should be noted that from the handmade prototypes we made in February and March, through the rounds of pre-production samples, to the final geometry we have today, we have never had a single failure to feed or eject. If the mag fit, it functioned, flawlessly.

What took so long?

While it always takes time to create tooling, what slowed us down is that to our knowledge, this magazine geometry has never been done before, so it took a little extra time for our magazine manufacturer to dial everything in.

Even small adjustments to a magazine design take time to change in tooling and test, and we were unwilling to compromise and release the magazine before it was ready. This is not just a range toy.

When will pre-orders ship?

We expect to begin shipping pre-orders in October; pre-orders will ship in the order they are received.

Do I need a metal mag catch since the magazine is made out of steel?

That depends on the shooter. We are offering an anodized aluminum mag catch for higher volume shooters who are concerned that the steel magazine will wear down the OEM polymer catch. It should be noted that our test guns have OEM mag catches, and we haven’t noticed any reliability issues yet. However, if you shoot enough, there is a possibility of accelerated wear on the catch, so if this is a concern, swap it out.

BE Meyers & Co Announces MAWL-X1, New DoD MAWL Variant

September 16, 2019 (Redmond, WA) – B.E. Meyers & Co., Inc. is proud to announce the addition of MAWL®-X1, a United States Department of Defense specific variant of the company’s highly successful MAWL® (Modular Advanced Weapon Laser) line of high-powered aiming and illumination laser systems for individual and crew-served weapons.

In 2017 B.E. Meyers & Co. submitted a Flat Dark Earth, Near-Infrared / Visible MAWL® featuring the EC2 threaded Endcap to the Soldier Enhancement Program (SEP) via the U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence, known as the MAWL®-X1. Following submission, PdM-SPTD procured it for Limited User Evaluations, which were conducted by various Combat Arms including units within the 82nd Airborne Division, 173rd Airborne Brigade, and the 2nd Infantry Division, among others. Approximately 766 MAWL®-X1 units have been fielded since 2018.

True Modularity

The MAWL®-X1 is a truly modular design comprised of three separate Head, Body, and End-Cap components, which allows it to be sustainable at a supply chain level. As an ambidextrous system, it can easily be configured for either right or left-handed shooters.

The “Alt Mount” Body allows for increased versatility across multiple weapon platforms, including the M4/M16, M27, M249, M240G, and precision rifles.

“The most significant factor behind all of the knives by Terrain 365 featuring our Terravantium is what goes into the super alloy and how we process it. The 2 primary material components are cobalt and carbide. It is their combined properties and how we process the precision bar stock castings that yields the superior performance characteristics. These types of cobalt alloys have actually been around for many years. Industrial applications are their use as engine valve seats, medical implants to lining the barrels of MK46 machine guns. Cobalt alloys are tough and long wearing. Unique to our Terravantium variety is that we do not roll our precision cast bar stock. This retains the original, dendritic crystalline structure of the carbide particles, best described as the microscopic saw teeth, which give our blades their cutting power and edge holding properties. Dendritic cobalt alloys are expensive and were not readily available to the consumer knife industry, but my partner and Co-Founder at Terrain 365, Michael Vagnino worked closely over years to develop and integrate a direct relationship with a foundry specializing in cobalt alloy so we are able to have a regular supply made to our specs and use in our edged tools. ”

Savage Arms Tests a 200-Year-Old Question: Can One Gun Do It All?

Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute Publishes Accepted 12-gauge 1 ¾-inch Cartridge and Chamber Designs

ANOKA, Minnesota – September 11, 2019 – Federal recently presented its 12-gauge 1 ¾-inch Smooth Bore Barrel cartridge and chamber designs to the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI) to be voted on for standardization. The specifications were approved and accepted as an official new cartridge recognized by the organization. Technical data and drawings of the newly accepted 12-gauge 1 ¾-inch SAAMI Standards are now published and available to the industry as a whole, as well as to the public.

“This is big news for our new Shorty Shotshell ammunition,” said Federal’s Shotshell Product Director Rick Stoeckel. “The 12-gauge 1 ¾-inch cartridge has been around for more than a decade, but it was never brought to SAAMI to be considered by its Technical Committee. Once we decided to start manufacturing this load, we immediately submitted it to SAAMI for industry standardization. We’re excited about this approval and we deeply appreciate SAAMI’s support.”

Federal’s new Shorty Shotshells deliver similar full-sized performance without the length of standard shells. Although just 1 ¾-inch long, new Shorty shotshells offer similar patterns, energy and accuracy as full-size counterparts. Now available in 8 shot, 4 buck and rifled slug loads perfect for fun at the range.

“SAAMI’s approval of the cartridge was a crucial step in legitimizing it within the industry,” continued Stoeckel. “Their work creates industry standards for the cartridge, and will hopefully inspire shotgun manufacturers to purposely build pump-action and semi-auto shotguns to specifically run 1 ¾-inch loads.”

SAAMI allows free access to technical data and drawings for accepted cartridge and chamber designs. SAAMI was founded in 1926 at the request of the federal government and tasked with creating and publishing industry standards for safety, interchangeability, reliability and quality, as well as coordinating technical data. SAAMI’s Technical Committee, which consists of firearm and ammunition industry experts, reviewed the 1 ¾-inch, 12-gauge cartridge submission over a period of several months. The official cartridge name, maximum cartridge and minimum chamber dimensions, pressure limits, test equipment, and other characteristics are all considered and scrutinized during the process.
