SHOT Show 17 – Battle Arms Development

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Last year, Battle Arms Development shared images of an AR that could be described as a work of art. The combination of wood and metal caused quite a reaction on the internet. At this year’s SHOT Show, they are showing a pre-production SBR in .300.

Aesthetically, I really like the combination of the Green Cerakote and Wood.  They plan to offer the furniture as stand alone pieces as well as a complete carbine. The wood on the forend and grip are Walnut while the cheekrest on the collapsible PDW stock is coated metal.

SHOT Show 17 – Winkler Knives II

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

It was great to see Daniel and Karen out from the bowels of the basement and out on the show floor with the other tactical brands. ABS Master Bladesmith Daniel Winkler showed me several new models, but I’m going to share the Walker Spike with you now.

The inspiration for the name obviously came from the popular TV show, “The Walking Dead” and was designed for one simple task; to ventilate someone if they get into a grapple with you, in order to get them off of you far enough to engage by other means.  Made from 80CRV2, it features a leather wrapped handle and comes with a Kydex sheath.

Additionally, the Emergency Response Tool, released at The Blade Show, has received a slight update. Daniel added a glassbreaker to the rear of the head.

We’ll have more new items from Winkler Knives soon.

SHOT Show 17 – ZEV Technologies Single Stage Rifle Trigger

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Designed for use with AR-style weapons, this is the new SSR Trigger from ZEV Technologies. The trigger’s engagement, over travel and rest can be adjusted and are the adjustments are made under detention so no loktite is required to make sure they don’t drift.

Each trigger ships with both 3 to 3.5 or 5 to 5.5 lbs pull weight springs so the shooter can choose. The SSR trigger also features a PVD, TiCN Copper coating. Finally, the trigger bow has been extended to allow the pad of the finger to more easily find its natural firing position.

SHOT Show 17 – Unifire Half Talon Knife by Buck Knives

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

A couple of years ago, Unifire came up with a machete-style blade after a jungle symposium in Hawaii. The Talon is made by Buck Knives exclusively for Unifire. This year, they slightly modified the original design, making it a bit smaller for more everyday use as a utility fixed blade knife.

The Half Talon seen above the full-size Talon FMC, is a full tang design, made from 5160 spring steel with a 1/4″ backstrap and convex design blade which offers three times the cutting strength over a standard design.

The reverse features an open limb hook like a bolo-style knife. The blade also has a Pry point at the tip and 2″ serrated edge near the grip. The butt can be used as a hammer.

The Talon’s blade is Cerakoted and incorprates a multi-layer Micarta handle. It also has multiple lash points. The sheath has a drain hole and can be worn at the belt or attached to PALS webbing.

SHOT Show 17 – Iron Claw Tactical

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Iron Claw Tactical has introduced an AK magwell which offers a couple of features noramlly found on AR weapons. For example, the magwell offers a chute-like guide for magazine insertion. Additionally, the magazine goes straight in rather than seating the front and rocking the mag to the rear. When released, the magazine also falls free.

Also seen here is an extended mag release which allows trigger finger magazine release or standard offhand mag release.

SHOT Show 17 – Full Conceal

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Full Conceal has a booth at the SHOT Show NEXT Pavilion, a section intended to showcase brands never before seen at SHOT. Their product is an ultra-concealable modification for full and mid-sized pistols which cuts down the frame to a sub-compact size, roughly equivalent in size to a modern cell phone. The models on display at their booth were based around Glock series pistols, and Polymer80’s 80% Glock frame.

M1

The M1 model cuts down the pistol’s frame to a sub-compact size, either a G17 or G19 with a magazine capable of holding 7+1 9mm rounds. A magazine holder capable of holding a 15-round 9mm magazine is integrated into the frame and is mounted via the accessory rail, giving a wielder a potential 23 rounds of 9mm carry ammo.

M2

IMG_4468

The M2 model is a bit more customized when compared to the M1 model. Rather than have a 7-round magazine loaded into the gun, and a full-size backup mag, it utilizes a full-size magazine with a rail-mounted baseplate that stores into the pistol grip/magwell via a cutout on the grip. The trigger is spring loaded and folds upward into the frame when the magazine is stowed. As you can see below, this configuration does remove the trigger guard.

Full Conceal is currently taking pre-orders for either model, which can be viewed at the link below.
