Last week, Canadian Distributor Rampart Corp, held a Range Day in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.
They’ve been holding some great ranges just before CANSEC each year. In this first year for a west coast event, they hosted 25 vendors and over 100 end users. Here are some of the highlights.
Joe Gajcevic demonstrates the effectiveness of a GLOCK 17 G5 MOS with Aimpoint ACRO combo.
Safariland less lethal demonstration. 40mm single shot and multishot.
ASP use of force demo.
Streamlight TLR-7A with two new tail activation options.
They even had a bear visit the range, who safely went on about his business.
Overall, the event went very well. No word yet on west coast dates for next year, but the Ottawa range day is scheduled for May 26th, 2020.
From shot groupings to MOA in one piece-of-string operation with the Wndsn Grouping-to-MOA Converter.
A tool for training and practice, the Wndsn Grouping-to-MOA Converter enables the user to take out the guess work of calculating shot grouping MOA, thereby eliminating mental calculation errors. The device is based on the same principle as other Wndsn instruments, a nomogram; a graphical calculator that requires two inputs (here the grouping in cm or inch and the range distance in m or yd) to compute the output, namely the grouping in MOA. It works by entering the shot grouping and the range distance and read the resulting MOA, all by aligning the provided string across the three scales.
The Grouping-to-MOA converter provides different range scales on the front and on the back of the device respectively; the front is suited from 0 to 100 yards and the back set of scales is suited for 100 to 600 yards (or meters, respectively).
The updated, redesigned version of our Grouping-to-MOA Converter model for 2019 features standardized scales, and higher precision in input and output. It comes with a printed manual with instructions in German & English.
Ongoing research and development of scale layouts allowed us to increase the precision by a factor of 10 in some areas of the logarithmic scale. In addition, the new version of the tool is laser-engraved in acrylic, and hence more robust than the former, printed model. Like all other Wndsn instruments, the Grouping-to-MOA converter is Made in Germany.
INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 7, 2019 — Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) received a $48 million engineering services contract to support the integration and qualification of hand-held devices into platform-mounted WiFi systems secured up to secret. Loaded with situational awareness and mission planning applications, the mobile devices will improve air-to-ground communication between combat teams, enhancing situational awareness as the mission unfolds.
“We’re helping aircrews and ground forces better communicate and collaborate in real time on the battlefield,” said Matt Gilligan, vice president at Raytheon’s Intelligence, Information and Services business. “Right now Blackhawk crews and dismounted soldiers rely heavily on voice communications during a mission, and when dynamics are changing in the air and on the ground minute by minute, that’s a huge challenge.”
The contract is part of the U.S. Army’s Air Soldier System (Air SS), the service’s effort to equip their rotary-wing aircrews with wearable electronics that increase their mission effectiveness and survivability.
Under the contract, Raytheon will load mission applications on commercial off-the-shelf phones and tablets to allow air and ground users to access and share current weather updates, friendly force trackers, and secure text messages.

After a long Hiatus, the Agilite Battle Element Soft Shell jacket is back in stock!
Pic credit-IDF Spokesperson
The ultimate combat-proven technical soft shell is used by many of Israel’s SOF and Infantry units, like the guys you see above wearing the Battle Element. He’s IDF Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Aviv Kohavi. He’s nicknamed “Mel Gibson” for obvious reasons…
The Battle Element features a hidden waterproof hood, premium micro fleece interior, a half glove and under-arm vents as well as a lot of other unique features.
This video of the Plumb Precision Rapid Target Engagement Reticle discusses the concepts behind the design. There are two modes of use (rapid and deliberate) in three range sections (close, mid, far). Additionally, it discusses the non-BDC version which allows for users to set their own Data On Previous Engagements or “Dope” and apply the Plumb reticle across different calibers on different rifles.
To give you an idea of how the reticle works, here it is at 100m with an 18” man sized target. inner arc shows 6” middle arc, middle and the outer arc is 12”. The full set of arcs is 18”. It indexes on the widest part of human shoulders, allowing for precision interdiction for cranial, axillary (armpit), and shots at the airway. Each of the mil marks sit center of each 2″ increment (blue tape is 2″).
This is the fortieth installment of ‘Max Talk Monday’ which shares select episodes from a series of instructional videos. Max Velocity Tactical (MVT) has established a reputation on the leading edge of tactical live fire and force on force training. MVT is dedicated to developing and training tactical excellence at the individual and team level.
This is a segment from the Max Velocity Tactical CQBC (Close Quarter Battle Course). The three day class covers Tactical Clearance methods. This specific period of instruction concerns the number one man entering an open doorway via the Diminishing Sectors method of entry.
The CQBC class is a three day event, day 1 on the flat range conducting individual skills and entry drills, using live fire and frangible ammunition. The latter two days are force on target and force on force at the CQB complex.
Max is a tactical trainer and author, a lifelong professional soldier with extensive military experience. He served with British Special Operations Forces, both enlisted and as a commissioned officer; a graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Max served on numerous operational deployments, and also served as a recruit instructor. Max spent five years serving as a paramilitary contractor in both Iraq and Afghanistan; the latter two years working for the British Government in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
FORT KNOX, Ky. — The U.S. Army is aiming to connect the gaming world to the military characters and equipment featured in many of today’s most popular games during the first-ever ArmyCon at the Army Ten-Miler Expo Park and D.C. Armory in Washington, D.C., Oct. 11-12.
ArmyCon will showcase high tech, warfighting capabilities with interactive displays and demonstrations. Individuals can test their skills as virtual warriors in the Mobile Gaming Semi-Trailer and then meet the real-life Soldiers face-to-face, equipped with all the associated gear and weaponry, in one action-packed area.
Spectators can test out robots, climb inside helicopters, and challenge their hacking skills. They can even get a close-up look at two new pieces of Army tech — the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle — Binocular and the Black Hornet Nano Unmanned Aerial System.
The ENVG-B’s are the Army’s most advanced night vision goggle, providing close combat forces with the capability to observe and maneuver weather conditions during limited visibility and enabling Soldiers to shoot around corners. The Black Hornet is a tiny drone that offers intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support.
“There are so many young people who don’t know what high-tech jobs the Army can offer or what Army life is like,” said Maj. Gen. Frank Muth, U.S. Army Recruiting commanding general. “ArmyCon is a prime opportunity for us to start the conversation about the professional jobs our Soldiers do.”
ArmyCon will feature the two new outreach teams created this year — the Army eSports Team and the Warrior Fitness Team. The esports team will host a “Twitch” gaming tournament inside of the U.S. Army Mobile Gaming Semi-Trailer, which features scorpion chairs and a variety of gaming platforms.
In addition to the new equipment and the gaming trailer, attendees will have a variety of Army assets to experience up-close and personal, including:
-Electric motorcycle
-Talon EOD robot
-Percussion explosive neutralization system
-Portable X-ray
-EOD blast suit
-Cyber Protection Team (demo cyber effects, display geo tagging effects with social media)
-Helicopters
-Stryker
Along with the equipment, attendees can meet Olympians from the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, the Golden Knights Army Parachute Team, Rangers, Special Forces Soldiers, and more.
