Daniel Defense Launches the Signature Series in Collaboration with John Lovell and the Warrior Poet Society

December 11th, 2023

BLACK CREEK, Ga. — Daniel Defense has partnered with John Lovell of the Warrior Poet Society to launch the Signature Series — one-of-a-kind rifles designed, built, and backed by the most trusted names in firearms.

“This initiative is incredibly important to us. We handpick partners who share our passion and values, then work with them to design their signature firearm,” said Rod Reasen, the CEO of Daniel Defense.

“I’ve loved Daniel Defense for ages. About a decade ago, I bought my very first, really nice rifle — a Daniel Defense M4A1. It’s the gun I trust my life with. Now, here we are, doing a collab, and I couldn’t be more thrilled,” said John Lovell of the Warrior Poet Society.

John Lovell’s WPSM4A1 is a completely custom build featuring the cutting-edge and heavy-duty RIS III rail — known for its SOCOM legacy and rock-solid 6-bolt System. Paired with the Holosun 515 GM atop the Unity FAST Micro Mount and a pinned and welded Surefire Warcomp, owners can quickly acquire and keep shots on target time after time. The Radian Raptor charging handle, Radian Talon safety and Railscales components make for comfortable and familiar ergonomics, while the first-time-ever OD Green Cerakote sets the WPSM4A1 apart from any Daniel Defense currently in the market. And finally, the Geissele SSA trigger makes every shot crisp and consistent. SOFWERX x PEO-SW Family of Special Operations Vehicles Assessment Event

December 11th, 2023

SOFWERX, in collaboration with USSOCOM PEO-SOF Warrior (PEO-SW), Family of Special Operations Vehicles (FOSOV), specifically the Non-Standard Commercial Vehicles (NSCV) Program, is hosting a series of events, to engage with Industry, Academia, and Government labs, and identify potential solutions for integrating portable and adaptive technologies, including but not limited to Information Technology (IT) and Communications (Comms) kits. Over time, competing and emerging requirements have driven IT and Comms kits to increase in complexity and cost at the trade-off of Special Operations Forces (SOF) mission flexibility, driving the need to develop an updated strategy and identify new, novel solutions.

The FOSOV Program Office has historically added SOF capability to include C4ISR through Systems Engineering and Integration to the vehicle design. In many cases, the vehicles are intended to have the same capability for fielding and deployment. As radios, amplifiers and other technologies have evolved over the years, limiting factors and trade-space have made it difficult to adapt mission capability in the field. FOSOV must deploy Tiger Teams to Areas of Responsibility (AOR), where SOF has freedom of movement, to upgrade technology in Ground Mobility Platforms. In future conflicts, FOSOV will need the ability to deploy new technology insertion packages in semi-permissive or contested environments. FOSOV desires the ability for program engineers to innovate and for operators to deploy and adapt solutions in the field through new deployment strategies and configuration control mechanisms and seeks interface control strategies and/or material solutions that enable technology updates in contested or denied areas of operation. In the future, FOSOV expects SOF will use indigenous vehicles rather than vehicles manufactured in the US and the portability of technology packages/kits between vehicle classes and types will be critical to mission success.

The objective of this event is to explore potential solutions with Industry, Academia, and Labs based upon an understanding of current FOSOV use cases and operational landscapes for future conflicts.  FOSOV will discuss the challenges of deploying solutions to inherently contested/denied areas of responsibility to ensure full understanding of the limitations and explore new and innovative solutions to rapidly integrate and deploy technology across all of FOSOV Ground Mobility Platforms.  Respondents may address capability for the existing NSCV fleet, or aim at changing how future ground mobility solutions are fielded.

Next Generation Squad Weapons Tested by Ft Campbell Infantry, Rangers

December 11th, 2023

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — Screaming Eagle Division Soldiers here just completed training and testing the Army’s 6.8mm family of Next Generation Squad Weapon-Rifle (NGSW-R), NGSW-Automatic Rifle (AR) and the NGSW-Fire Control (FC) systems.

Troops of Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and members of 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, undertook New Equipment Training on the NGSW.

“The New Equipment Training gave the Soldiers a good base before coming out and using the NGSWs,” said Infantryman Sgt. Jack Scott, a team leader in Alpha Company.

Their training covered the similarities and differences between the new weapons and the legacy 5.56mm M4A1 Carbine and M249 Squad Automatic Weapon systems, focusing on enhanced lethality.

“We did a lot of training with both static and maneuver ranges, so the product of Soldier you get now, during the live fire, is high quality due to all of that training,” added Scott.

Once complete with new equipment training, Soldiers tested the NGSW in a Limited User Test, or LUT, in a crawl-walk-run method to ensure all operational data is collected on the weapon, as well as user integration with the new equipment.

Alpha Company and 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment initially conducted static qualification and variable distance ranges with legacy weapon systems and NGSW, to compare performance of both and give Soldiers repetitions and familiarity with the NGSW.

Alpha Company 1st Sgt. Justin Babb appreciated the benefits of participating in an operational test and the opportunity for his junior Soldier’s feedback to contribute and impact Army modernization.

“The candid feedback that the Soldiers and NCOs provided during focus groups and surveys will provide the Army with perspective from the lowest level of user that will actually use the system,” said Babb.

Major differences between the legacy M4, M249 systems and the NGSWs were immediately noticeable by the Soldiers.

Spec. Maximiliano Arguindegui, an automatic rifleman with 1/75th Ranger Regiment, said, “Overall, I feel faster with the M249, but I prefer the NGSW-AR because it makes me more lethal.”

Scott added, “Stopping power with the 6.8 round is a big improvement compared to the M4 and M249 and having the ability to use with or without the suppressor is a huge feature for the support by fire element.”

Leaders of Alpha Company also said participating in a test with the Operational Test Command enabled them to get after their internal readiness.

Alpha Company Commander, Capt. Jordan Mares, said, “Being a part of the NGSW test absolutely supported our company readiness. The LUT gave us opportunities to hone our craft, practice lessons learned with feedback from subject-matter experts, and the ability to conduct a lot of repetitions to practice small unit tactics.”

Staff Sgt. Ivan Alvarez, a Squad Leader with Alpha Company, was initially skeptical of the NGSW.

“When we first started the LUT, I was very against the NGSW-R,” he said. “I’m used to the M4 — it’s lighter — I’m used to the recoil, the engagements, everything the M4 has to offer. But, as we went through the LUT with the NGSW-R, I can see the capabilities that it brings to an infantryman, especially at a longer distance.”

Alvarez also said testing the new weapons gave his squad added training opportunities.

“We got after a lot of training that we would normally have to wait months to set up and accomplish,” he said. “We were able to get more marksmanship time, more range time, and were able to train under various environmental conditions.”

Another squad leader with the Rangers provided his observations on the training benefit while participating in an operational test.

“We were able to get reps in on a new weapon system as well as our legacy equipment,” said Sgt. Joseph Martin. “We were able to train on many basic things that we want to train on every year, but condensed to get more repetitions, as well as live fire iterations for our younger, inexperienced Soldiers.”

Blackhawk Awarded T-Series Holster Contract with Belgian Federal Police

December 10th, 2023

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – December 7, 2023 – Blackhawk®, a leader in law enforcement and military equipment for over 30 years and a Vista Outdoor Inc. (NYSE:VSTO) brand, announced today that the United Security Group (USG) has been awarded a four-year contract from the Federal Police in Belgium to deliver new duty holsters from the brand’s T-Series holster line. As part of the contract, law enforcement professionals within the Belgian Federal Police and local police zones in Belgium will begin utilizing T-Series L3D holsters to carry their primary service pistols.

“This contract is a testament to the craftsmanship of Blackhawk products and the brand’s commitment to equipping law enforcement officials around the globe,” said Jeff Sposito, who leads the Blackhawk and Stone Glacier brands of Vista Outdoor. “We take pride in supplying military personnel and law enforcement officers with the gear they need to keep their communities safe, and we know the Belgian Federal Police are now carrying the world’s best holster.”

The Belgian Federal Police selected the Blackhawk holsters to carry their service pistol, the Smith & Wesson M&P9, while the local police zones in Belgium will have the ability to purchase new duty holsters compatible with their Glock 17/45 service pistols.

The USG noted that Blackhawk T-Series is a secure and versatile platform, with the T-Series L3D holsters coming standard with the Jacket Slot Belt Loop or being compatible with the agency selected Blackhawk Micro Tac Platform. This modularity allows officers to select the form of carry most suited to their needs without sacrificing accessibility or security.

The contract has a value of over $2.1 million and features the same holster solution that was adopted earlier this year by the French Army and the Niedersachsen State Police of Germany.

“We are honored to have our T-Series holsters selected by such a prestigious international agency,” said Liam Yarbrough, senior product line manager with Blackhawk. “This partnership signifies the trust officers place in our holsters, and it reinforces our commitment to keeping those who protect and serve safe on the job. It’s a privilege to play a role in their mission, and we take this responsibility seriously.”

To date, T-Series holsters have been selected for duty use by over 3,200 law enforcement agencies both in the U.S. and abroad. As the world’s first thumb-driven, dual-injected molded holster, the T-Series is Blackhawk’s premier duty-rated holster.
