SIG SAUER Introduces 6.5 Creedmoor SIG HT Hunting Ammunition

Wednesday, April 4th, 2018

Newington, NH (April 3, 2018) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to add a 6.5 Creedmoor round to its line of SIG HT™ premium-grade, copper hunting ammunition.  Like all SIG HT Elite Performance Ammunition offerings, the 6.5 Creedmoor features an all-copper bullet that delivers deep penetration and consistent 1.8x diameter expansion.  The 120gr 6.5 Creedmoor bullet has a muzzle velocity of 2,825 fps with muzzle energy of 2,126 ft-lbs, making it an excellent load for medium-sized game such as deer and antelope.

“The 6.5 Creedmoor is one of the hottest loads on the market and is increasingly popular with hunters due to its high ballistic coefficient which allows it to push through wind with less drag, delivering a flat trajectory and minimal recoil,” said Bud Fini, Executive Vice President of the SIG SAUER Ammunition Division and Special Projects.  “In addition to the SIG HT hunting round, SIG SAUER also offers a 6.5 Creedmoor Match Grade OTM load featuring a140gr Sierra MatchKing® bullet.”

SIG HT premium-grade, copper hunting ammunition is now available in five calibers: 300BLK, 223 Rem, 308 Win, 300 Win Mag and 6.5 Creedmoor.

SIG HT cartridges are made with premium nickel-plated shell cases, and flash-reduced propellant is used to minimize visible signature while shooting in low-light situations.  Premium quality primers are also used to minimize variations in velocity.

The SIG HT ammunition is produced on state-of-the-art loading equipment with electromechanical monitoring for charge weight consistency and geometric conformity.   All SIG SAUER Elite Performance Ammunition is manufactured by SIG SAUER at its new ammunition manufacturing facility in Jacksonville, Arkansas to the same exacting standards as the company’s premium pistols and rifles.  For more  information, visit www.sigsauer.com/ammunition.

SIG P320 Completes Government 10,000 Round First Article Testing With Zero Issues

Monday, April 2nd, 2018

Late last week, SIG SAUER posted a rather intriguing photo to their Instagram account.

34113FC5-AD7A-494B-A1C9-28B7B80568B4

It had this caption.

6 guns….60,000 rounds…zero failures…big shout out to the testing and engineering teams at SIG SAUER as they put the P320 through its paces for a new customer’s endurance testing protocol

I asked for more information from SIG, inquiring which government agency the test was conducted for. No one would say, neither on, nor off-the-record, but I did find out that this was First Article Testing and that it wasn’t DoD. Additionally, the testing was conducted at SIG with government observers. This leads me to believe it was for Department of Homeland Security. SIG technicians fired 10,000 rounds each through six P320 pistols. I understand the ammunition was Gold Dot 2.

The pistols also went through a full battery of testing including a six-axis drop test. Once again, there were no failures. Both of these tests are significant due to last year’s -30 Deg drop issue and the P320-derived Modular Handgun System exhibited issues with ammunition in DoD testing last year.

It’s very rare for a new piece of equipment to complete First Article Testing with zero deficiencies. It sounds like SIG has been learning from past issues and upping their game. Let’s see if they can keep this up.

2018 USASOC Sniper Comp – Modular Handgun System Enhancements From SIG

Friday, March 23rd, 2018

Based on the commercially available SIG P320, the new Modular Handgun System can be configured as the full-size M17 or in the compact M18 configuration. MHS more than lives up to Modular aspect of its name, with possible upgrades not even yet conceived by the Army. For example, the slide is equipped with a removable plate to accept a red dot optic. Additionally, the fire control unit is compatible with other P320 grip modules.

In an initiative akin to the Special Operations Peculiar Modification (SOPMOD) program for the M4 carbine, SIG is demonstrating enhancements for MHS.

This has an M18 with an X-series grip. It incorporates an after market magwell, which works as a chute to speed reloads and also includes a Romeo 1T sight from SIG Optics as well as suppressor height front sight.

However, the slide can also be configured with an adjustable rear via the sight plate.

Additionally, they have installed a flat trigger and removed the manual safety found on MHS.

These enhancements aren’t being offered as a package, but rather as a demonstration narrator to get users to consider ways to leverage the weapon’s modularity.

SIG and after market accessory manufacturers continue to roll out new products. Even more will come now that the P320 has been adopted for US military service as MHS.

SIG SAUER Introduces New Varmint & Predator Elite Performance Ammunition

Wednesday, February 21st, 2018

Newington, NH (February 20, 2018) – SIG SAUER, Inc. introduces Varmint & Predator (V&P) Elite Performance Ammunition.   This new V&P line of ammunition features copper-jacketed, yellow-tipped projectiles designed for explosive expansion and match-grade accuracy.  Available in 40gr 223 Rem, 40gr 22-250 Rem and 55gr 243 Win cartridges, these Varmint & Predator rounds feature projectiles that are light for their caliber yielding higher muzzle velocities and flatter trajectories across all practical hunting distances.

The 40gr 223 Rem load has a muzzle velocity of 3650 fps and muzzle energy of 1183 ft-lbs.  The 40gr 22-250 has a muzzle velocity of 3975 fps with muzzle energy of 1403 ft-lbs, and the 55gr 243 Win has a muzzle velocity of 3880 fps with muzzle energy of 1838 ft-lbs.

“The new SIG V&P line of ammunition gives varmint and predator hunters access to exceptionally effective hunting rounds with match-grade accuracy,” said Bud Fini, Executive Vice President of the SIG SAUER Ammunition Division and Special Projects.  “We use the same high-quality, single-base extruded powders in these Varmint & Predator cartridges that we do in our SIG Match Grade rounds.  This provides consistent round-to-round muzzle velocities and insensitivity to temperature change, and hunters will especially appreciate the results these performance rounds bring them in the field.”

SIG SAUER Varmint & Predator rounds are produced on state-of-the-art loading equipment with electromechanical monitoring for charge weight consistency and geometric conformity.

SIG Range Day 2018 – 300URG Integrally Suppressed Upper

Sunday, January 21st, 2018

I gave you a sneak peek yesterday of a new integrally suppressed 300 BLK Upper Receiver Group from SIG called the 300SRG. It uses the MCX short stroke piston architecture and integrates a 6.75″ barrel with a 19 baffle titanium suppressor.

Several questions came up regarding the overall length so I asked SIG’s John Hollister.

John verified that it is in fact, a single stamp upper. In fact, during development the called it the “one stamp”. The overall Barrel length is about 16.75″. Below, you can see the pin where the suppressor is pinned to the barrel.

John also told me the official measurement for sound suppression is 121 dB, but that was taken in the winter. He’s regularly recorded 119 dB.

He went in to tell me that it does leverage technology developed for a government program for a special customer, but it was not either of the programs I referenced yesterday, PDW or SURG. However, SIG’s submission to both of them leverages that same work 300URG does.

Coming soon from www.sigsauer.com.

SIG Range Day 2018 – P365 Laser Sneak Peek

Sunday, January 21st, 2018

Due to its narrow design, the new SIG P365 pistol features a slim-line rail. SIG Optics is introducing a laser in March built specifically for this pistol.

Offered in Red and Green variants, it is actuated via pressure of the middle finger of the button at the grip.

Here is a photo of me shooting the P365 Equipped with the laser.

A 100 lumen light in the same configuration is also on the way as well as a Lima grip which the user can swap pistol frames from the standard frame to one with an integral laser.

SIG To Offer Suppressed Upper Receiver

Saturday, January 20th, 2018

SIG is introducing a 300 BLK Upper Reciever Group which is compatible with both MCX and AR-style lowers. This short stroke gas piston upper features a 6.75″ barrel with a permanently attached 19 baffle, Titanium suppressor. It has two gas settings for use with sub and supersonic ammunition.

Remember, this is a piston upper so the lower receiver extension isn’t required. Consequently, it will come with the 1913 adapter to facilitate use with the AR lower reciever. This adapter accepts SIG’s 1913 compatible (vertical orientation) stocks. Additionally, the SUR300 comes with a Matchlite Duo trigger.

No word yet on whether this is based on SIG’s submission for the Naval Special Warfare Personal Defense Weapon program which is also in 300 BLK. Additionally, it looks like it may have applied some lessons learned from their submission for SOCOM’s Suppressed Upper Receiver Group program, which is in 5.56mm.
