Outdoor Retailer Summer Market

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

For the next few days we are going to share some information from the OR Summer Market 2009. To kick it off we wanted to share this picture of ADS rep Bill Gassett hamming it up at Deuter’s booth.

Bill Gassett - ADS Rep Extraordinaire

Most of the usual suspects were on hand as well.

S.O. Tech has a booth that seems a little off the beaten path but it didn’t deter them releasing their new Adventure Pack System based on their successful Mission Pack System. In addition to the current tactical panels they have developed several specifically for the civilian market and these can easily be transitioned back over for tactical use by those who require more discreet capabilities. Additionally, S.O. Tech debuted their new K9 patch to add to their ever growing family of tactical symbology.

Eagle’s booth was very streamlined and focused primarily on the Waterpoint line was well as several of the new garments they have in production. Word is that the Waterpoint line will be expanding in the future.

Arc’teryx has some great new clothing coming soon on both the LEAF and commercial side. Look for a full report soon. Shown are the Freelance Jacket and Raider Pant. Unfortunately, these two items from the commercial line won’t be available until Spring 2010.

S.O.Tech, makers of the SOCOM-issue Mission Go Bag has released a new pack system. Essentially a tool kit of load carrying solutions, it provides a variety bags and accessories to the warrior. The best way to give you an idea of the scope of this new system is to just show you.

S.O.Tech Mission Pack System

Designed with and employed by Special Forces elements, the system was tailored for vehicle-mounted deployment as well as long range foot patrol operations. The Mission Pack system was designed around current TTPs. Mission Packs are designed for use from vehicles. Bail out modular Mission Go Bags can be pulled and deployed for short-range missions leaving primary packs on vehicles. SHOT Show Day 3.1

Spec Ops Brand

Spec Ops Brand displayed their latest addition, the Gun Belt which was transitioned from their Professional Hunter line where it found its genesis as the PH Utility Belt. Originally conceived as a sturdy belt for big game hunting, the the Gun Belt utilizes the concept of a belt on a belt to improve stiffness. This is a great alternative for those who require a gun belt but don’t want the added weight, bulk and heat build up associated with many padded belts. It is available now in four sizes in Black, Coyote, and Foliage.

ITW Military Products

ITW released this new product at SHOT. Envisioned as step one in a multi-faceted waterproofing system, the Individual Clothing & Equipment Protection System or ICEPS is designed as a cost effective alternative to commercial products often used by Soldiers such as zip-loc bags. The current cornerstone of this line is the X-Proof protective bag which incorporate a closure with a one way valve. This allows you to put clothing and equipment in the nag and then bleed the air out of the bag. The current ICEPS kit consists of one waterproof pack liner for the three day assault pack, two Roll-Vac equipment bags, and two personal equipment bags. Look for a full report soon.

S.O.Tech Tactical Symbology

Monday, September 1st, 2008

At the recent Trexpo East exposition near Dulles International Airport in Virginia, Special Operations Technologies showed their new Tactical Symbology system. Mil-Std 2525A military symbology really only goes down to the squad level and there is no standardized system for military and law enforcement to depict individuals during sand table exercises. Based on Mil Std 2525, the S.O.Tech symbology goes one step further toward the increased granularity of information required for tactical ops at the micro level, say conducting a vehicle checkpoint or clearing a room. Whenever possible they utilized standardized symbols but created new, intuitive symbols where none existed. Additionally, they extended the concept to support LE operations.

S.O.Tech Tactical Symbology

The idea sprang actually from another initiative. S.O.Tech developed a set of patches to designate the specialties of both individuals and their equipment. They are available for Leader, Assaulter, Sniper, Breacher, and Medic. EOD is under development. The patches are embroidered and backed with Velcro. Additionally, the patch features a tab that allows it to be attached via 550 or cable tie to bags or other items. S.O.Tech also offers T-shirts and ball caps featuring the copyrighted symbols.
