SHOT Show 17 – Wilcox Industries / Aviation Specialities Unlimited

Thursday, January 19th, 2017

The Aeronox is a new mount designed by ASU and built by Wilcox. The legacy mount is 30 years old with a few bandaids thrown on over the years. It is manufactured from high impact Polymer with little metal and is intended for a 20 year life minimum with reinforcements in high wear areas.

They’ve eliminated the need for a neck cord by incorporated the Wilcox retractable cord. The cord will release at 10Gs just like the mount. Additionally, the mount fits the lines of a flight helmet very closely with cable connections fitting contours.

The Aeronox is a repairable item rather than a disposable item, unlike the legacy mount.  ASU has also introduced a new battery pack to work with the Aeronox. It’s smaller, lighter and eliminates the need for battery cartridges. They’ve also built in mounting points for a counterweight. Like the Aeronox mount, the battery case is repairable.

ASU/Wilcox also offers an adapter for the mount to attach to ground helmets. It incorporates the proper angles to facilitate use of the AVS-9 aviator goggle with a ballistic helmet. The Ground Adapter works on all three hole shroud systems and is light and sturdy.

You can also use any of the components with legacy systems.

SHOT Show 17 – GSS Gear / Integrated Stealth Harness-TQ / Misty Mountain

Thursday, January 19th, 2017

Ish Antonio is well known in the Rescue community and he has come up with a new harness. Manufactured by Misty Mountain, the Integrated Stealth Harness-TQ. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen. The ISH-TQ offers such a low profile, you can wear it all of the time and you’ll have an extra tourniquet at hand as well. In the photos, the Harness is demonstrated on a mannequin so it won’t tighten as well as on a human.

For hasty rappel or hoist mode, you pull the loops down over your rear.

To employ the Full class II Harness, engage the leg loops which attach via Austrialpin buckles.

Additionally, the harness can be employed as a Tourniquet while worn on the leg.

The carabiner is used as the windlass.

It can also be removed from wear and employed on arms or others.

Interested parties should contact www.mistymountain.com or email Ish at i.antonio@ishgear.com. Naturally, GSS Gear will help out with Unit and eganxy purchases.

SHOT Show 17 – LALO Tactical

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

LALO uses two upper and two lower designs to create three different boot models in the Shadow line. For example, (top to bottom) the Amphibian utilizes a drainable lower. The Intruder shares the upper with the Amphibian but comes a carbonized rubber outsole. The Operator introduces a new high upper but utilizes the same carbonized rubber outsole as the Intruder.

The models are available in Black, Coyote and Ranger Green.

SHOT Show 17 – TNVC/Unity Tactical TAPS Update

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

During Range Day we mentioned the production version of the Tactical Augmented Pressure Switch. To clarify, there are two variants and externally both look the same because they have the same basic functionality.

The TAPS mounts to M-Lok, KeyMod and Pic rail and includes 7″ SureFire/Insight or 7″ Insight/Insight leads. Once again, it requires a 2032 battery for constant on, but even without it, momentary still works. The only difference from the base model and the TAPSpro is that the pro model is programmable. Consequently, there’s a difference in price. The TAPS is $139 and TAPSpro is $239. Considering other switches are more expensive (and not programmable) that’s not a bad price. Plus, TAPS is 100% Made in USA. Additionally, the switches are available in FDE and Black.

These have been manufactured. The products will be loaded on the website and begin shipping next week.

I hope this answers any questions that have come up.

SHOT Show 17 – Battle Arms Development

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Last year, Battle Arms Development shared images of an AR that could be described as a work of art. The combination of wood and metal caused quite a reaction on the internet. At this year’s SHOT Show, they are showing a pre-production SBR in .300.

Aesthetically, I really like the combination of the Green Cerakote and Wood.  They plan to offer the furniture as stand alone pieces as well as a complete carbine. The wood on the forend and grip are Walnut while the cheekrest on the collapsible PDW stock is coated metal.

SHOT Show 17 – Winkler Knives II

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

It was great to see Daniel and Karen out from the bowels of the basement and out on the show floor with the other tactical brands. ABS Master Bladesmith Daniel Winkler showed me several new models, but I’m going to share the Walker Spike with you now.

The inspiration for the name obviously came from the popular TV show, “The Walking Dead” and was designed for one simple task; to ventilate someone if they get into a grapple with you, in order to get them off of you far enough to engage by other means.  Made from 80CRV2, it features a leather wrapped handle and comes with a Kydex sheath.

Additionally, the Emergency Response Tool, released at The Blade Show, has received a slight update. Daniel added a glassbreaker to the rear of the head.

We’ll have more new items from Winkler Knives soon.

SHOT Show 17 – ZEV Technologies Single Stage Rifle Trigger

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Designed for use with AR-style weapons, this is the new SSR Trigger from ZEV Technologies. The trigger’s engagement, over travel and rest can be adjusted and are the adjustments are made under detention so no loktite is required to make sure they don’t drift.

Each trigger ships with both 3 to 3.5 or 5 to 5.5 lbs pull weight springs so the shooter can choose. The SSR trigger also features a PVD, TiCN Copper coating. Finally, the trigger bow has been extended to allow the pad of the finger to more easily find its natural firing position.
