Paradigm SRP PKM

The guys at Paradigm SRP are always put to build a better mousetrap and this time they have taken on my favorite machine gun; the PKM. While it runs like a top, it isn’t exactly compact and the ergonomics suck for firing while maneuvering.

20130913-003411.jpg

According to Paradigm SRP, this prototype was developed to modernize the PKM system for customers who require a compact general purpose machine gun that fires the 7.62x54R cartridge. The major criteria was that it had to be maneuverable within a SUV for PSD operations. They also used it as a test weapon in their TALON gyro-stabilized gun platform.

The build was a joint project between Paradigm SRP and Acadiana Gunworks (you may remember fellow AFSOC Vet, Glenn Fleming from his Sons of Guns days) . They began by shortening the barrel to 19” and attaching an AAC muzzle break. However, they did not shorten the gas system to allow for use with full length barrels. Next they added an ArmaDynamics PKM RAP rail. They also selected the Trijicon SRS optic. Additionally, two items from Blackheart International made it into the build; the tri-rail and folding stock kit which was fitted with a Magpul UBR stock. Acadiana Gunworks also came up with a custom ejection port brass deflector to prevent the brass from hitting the support hand of right handed shooters. Finally, they topped it off with a custom MultiCam style paint job and fitted an Atlas bipod.

All in all it looks like a great set of upgrades to improve the versatility of a great weapon.

DSEi – Smith Elite

Friday, September 13th, 2013

What happens when you you combine the Echo and the Boogie? Why the Boogie Aviator of course! Aviators came to Smith requesting that engineer a way for them to wear the Boogie with their flight helmets. Smith took a hard look at the HGU-56/P helmet and realized the answer wasn’t a goggle but rather glasses with a goggle type seal.

The Boogie Aviator integrates two technologies. Their new slotted ventilation as well as the slotted lens technology which allows the eye pro to conform to more face shapes without optical distortion. Additionally, it helps dissipate energy across the lens rather than transmit it into the head. Additionally, as it is based on the Echo frame, swapping out lenses is as simple as opening two PivLocks. Conversely, you can adapt the Boogie Aviator lens to existing Echo and Arc frames. Finally, and most importantly for Aviators, the simple, thin temples of the Echo make donning and doffing the eye pro while wearing a helmet, a cinch.

MagCarrier_double

For those of you who have been wondering about the leg rig Travis Haley has been sporting in some recent photos, it’s actually something a bit more: the D3 Disruptive Environments Carrier. The Disruptive Environments Carrier is the result of a collaborative effort between G-Code and Haley Strategic Partners. It’s a modular magazine system, minimal and lightweight, which is precision molded and finished to insure performance in a wide variety of changing environments.

The individual magazine cavities for both pistol and rifle magazines are form fitted and ambidextrous, and are tension adjustable and engineered for modularity. The carriers are designed for use with multiple carry options: paddle, belt-slide, MOLLE adaptor, Intermediate Suspension System drop-leg adaptor, and harness adaptor for use with most tactical harnesses.

Each D3 carrier delivers a reduced visual and IR signature through the use of select camouflage material laminates on the exterior of the holster body. The current available patterns are: Black Tactical Fuzz, Coyote Tan Tactical Fuzz, MultiCam, Kryptek Mandrake, and Kryptek Highlander.

Additionally, the Disruptive Environments Carrier is available in single and double magazine configurations.
