USSOCOM Offering Prize For Algorithm for Real-Time Parallax Correction Challenge

Friday, February 12th, 2016

If you’ve got a system that will correct parallax in worn (powered) sensors, you could win a prize of up to $50,000. US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) is sponsoring a public prize challenge for a wearable system to correct optical parallax resulting from offset sensors.

Background.
USSOCOM is developing a multi-spectral visual system; however, fusing the inputs of offset optical sources results in parallax – a perceived change in the position of an object due to the offset positions of the optical sensors. To address this issue, USSOCOM is sponsoring the Algorithm for Real-Time Parallax Correction prize challenge. For additional details and to register to solve the challenge, visit www.innocentive.com/ar/challenge/9933759..

Challenge Structure.
Begin Date: 27 Jan 16
Submission Close Date: 29 Feb 16
Phase I winners will be announced approximately 2 weeks later, and invited to participate in Phase II
Phase II will be a live demonstration of the solvers solutions.

Prize Structure.
$50,000 in total prize awards is available.
Phase I winners are eligible for up to $15,000
Phase II winners are eligible for up to an additional $35,000

TangoDown – Vickers Tactical +2 Magazine Extension for the Glock 43

Friday, February 12th, 2016

If you’re like me, the grip for the GLOCK 43 is too short, leaving my ring and pinky fingers feeling left out. But Vickers Tactical™ and TangoDown, Inc. worked together to introduce the +2 Magazine extension for the G43 magazine.

Injection molded of the same durable material used in the magazine body itself, the extended floorplate shape was designed to comfortably accommodate a proper firing grip. With two additional rounds on board, ammunition capacity is now 8 + 1 in the weapon. Crye Precision Updates Six12 Website – Unveils New Variant

Friday, February 12th, 2016

Crye Precision has updated the Six12 website with some new features, including a section detailing different configurations for the shotgun. Below is a screenshot which breaks down a Compact configuration I saw at SHOT Show.

You may recall that during our SHOT Show coverage of Crye Precision, I mentioned that there are some really cool things to see in the conference room. This was one of them. It wasn’t on display out front which makes me think that launching the site update and publicly unveiling this preciously undisclosed configuration may indicate that the first 100 Six12s are about ready for release.

Be sure to check out all of the configurations available for this modular, revolver-style shotgun at six12.com.

High Tower Armory – RM-25 Magazine for the 10/22

Friday, February 12th, 2016

High Tower Armory has been hard at work developing this windowed polymer magazine for the popular 10/22 rifle.

HTA has incorporated multiple features including steel feed lips, toolless disassembly, translucent panels and round counters as well as finger assisted loading.

This is a cool feature.  According to HTA, the window panels are removable and  when they are, and the follower extension pin is installed, the magazine is in finger assisted reload mode.  This allows the user to compress the spring and follower by hand.  It’s optimized for high volume shooting activities where loading the magazine in a conventional manner takes longer and fatigues the loading hand.

As an introductory offer, SSD readers can take $12 off by using code SoldierSystemsRM25 at check out.

Available in several colors and Made in the USA.

Crimson Trace Grows Green Laser Options

Friday, February 12th, 2016

(Wilsonville, OR)—Crimson Trace, the world’s leader in establishing laser sights as standard equipment on all concealed-carry and personal defense firearms, continues to expand its green laser sights category. In fact, the Wilsonville, Oregon based manufacturer now offers more green laser sights than all of its competitors—combined.

The recent release of Crimson Trace’s Lasergrips® LG-350G with the advanced ShockStop™—designed for Smith & Wesson’s J-frame revolvers—brought the number of Crimson Trace green laser sight products to more than two dozen. And more green laser sights will be released by the company in the months ahead to meet growing consumer demands and customer requests.

Crimson Trace’s new LiNQ®—the world’s first wireless laser and white light system—utilizes a green laser sight along with a bright 300-Lumen LED white light. This product is designed for use on AR/MSR rifles and long guns. Other green products to consider for long guns include the Rail Master Pro® (CMR-204) and Rail Master® (CMR-206). The Rail Master CMR-206 is a compact, lightweight and very bright green laser sight designed for attachment on Weaver and Picatinny rails on handguns and long guns. Yet another option that will provide a green laser sight, along with a white light, is the rugged MVF-515G.

Crimson Trace also recently released the Laserguard® LG-489G (green) that is designed to fit the poplar Smith &Wesson M&P Shield pistol. This product is now offered with a Blade-Tech holster at a savings to the customer. The LG-489G green laser is activated by Crimson Trace’s patented Instinctive Activation™ via a pressure touch pad located under the trigger guard.

Crimson Trace also offers the Laserguard® LG-469G—a green laser sight engineered for Springfield Armory’s XD-S pistol. Another green laser product, the Laserguard LG-443G, is created for a precision fit onto Glock’s popular Model 42/43 pistols. Both of those products are also available with Blade Tech holsters as a pre-assembled package from Crimson Trace

Travis Haley Responds To NDgate

Friday, February 12th, 2016

Earlier this evening, Haley Strategic Partners posted this statement on their Facebook page in response to the week old disclosure of video taken by Panteao Productions depicting Travis Haley discussing an AK. During that video, the weapon fired. Panteao Productions issued their statement on Monday of this week.

Press Release Feb 11, 2016:

On approximately Thursday February 4th 2016, Panteao Productions released a video through poor accountability and security with its servers by one of their instructors according to the owner of Panteao Productions. How and why this happened is still unclear, however assumptions can certainly be made.

This particular video was of me teaching a block of instruction on controversial Russian trigger finger/safety techniques, and why I personally don’t recommend them. During the filming, my AK was discharged inadvertently performing the demonstration. The range was set up for this demo, the weapon was intentionally off safe due to the block of instruction, and the barrel was oriented towards the target in the event the weapon fired as it did in this case.

Of course I take these matters seriously and if you know me or have been through any of our courses, you know our number one priority is safety. We pride ourselves on learning from our failure as it is our greatest opportunity and share those experiences with the people we serve.

There was also a communication issue with the inconsistent posts made on social media between the HSP team back in Scottsdale AZ and me being in Central America at the time the video was released. Now that I have seen the entire video (never seen by me before as it was in Panteao’s library), I have been able to review it and now share my thoughts. After reading a lot of comments, I think Pat Rogers said it best:

“One type causes injury/ death or comes close enough to warrant immediate measures to remove the person and his weapon. The other type is a down range ND, when the shot is discharged unintentionally, but into the target/ berm etc. These represent the majority of ND’s and this is where learning can occur. These are teaching/ learning points, and if handled correctly, will not likely happen again.” -Pat Rogers

I have had many failure points in my life (much greater than this)… I have ND’d. I have missed the mark countless times in my life even when it mattered most. I have zigged when I should have zagged. I’ve been impulsive and involved myself into fights without thinking of who’d it effect. My brothers have asked me for direction in combat and I was unable to answer. Hell, I have even taken life when it could have possibly been avoided… I have failed over and over in my life, yet I have been blessed with being accountable and educated by my shortcomings. This, in turn, allows my failures to continually become my greatest opportunities.
