The Association of the U.S. Army’s 2020 Annual Meeting and Exposition will be held virtually this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“After careful and detailed consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to convert the 2020 AUSA Annual Meeting from an in-person meeting to a virtual experience,” said retired Gen. Carter Ham, AUSA president and CEO. “Based on health and safety considerations and ongoing restrictions on large gatherings, it is not possible for us to conduct an in-person meeting as we had originally envisioned.”

Planning is underway for a four-day virtual meeting beginning Tuesday, Oct. 13, and concluding on Friday, Oct. 16. Like live events in the past, the virtual meeting will feature addresses by top Army and national security leaders, professional military forums and presentations by industry.

Registration for the new virtual meeting is expected to open by September.

Switching to a virtual event was a “tough call,” Ham said. “The Annual Meeting is an incredibly important event and one of our favorite ways to celebrate everything that unites us, but health and safety must come first,” he said. “We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event as we had envisioned, but we know it’s the right decision.”

AUSA is now coordinating details for the virtual event, and team members will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and sponsors about new opportunities.

“While it may not replace the full experience of the in-person AUSA Annual Meeting, it will serve to keep us connected with Army senior leaders and messages, with industry partners and with AUSA members around the globe,” Ham said. “We are planning for a forum that allows reach beyond the 33,000-plus people we expected to see in Washington, D.C., this year.”

The AUSA team also is already looking forward to the 2021 Annual Meeting and “a grand reunion” scheduled for Oct. 11-13, 2021, in Washington, D.C., Ham said.

Speer Ammunition Awarded Record $112M Contract with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection

Tuesday, July 21st, 2020

LEWISTON, Idaho – July 20, 2020 – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has selected Vista Outdoor’s Speer Ammunition brand as the awardee for their 9mm Service Ammunition. CBP is one of the world’s largest law enforcement agencies and is charged with border security while also overseeing lawful international trade and travel.  This is the largest duty contract won in company history and solidifies Speer as law enforcement’s number one choice of duty ammunition.

This single-award, Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract is a Strategically Sourced contract for all DHS components and other federal agencies with a maximum value of $112 Million dollars. The ordering period is for a total of five years with product delivery commencing this August.

“We are proud to provide the highest quality duty ammunition to CBP officers charged with the monumental task of border security,” said Speer Ammunition President Jason Vanderbrink. “We know they require the best ammunition in their mission to protect our borders and keep the homeland safe. The use of Gold Dot technology in this contract ammunition ensures the highest performance threshold and absolute confidence in on-duty performance.”

CBP selected a round utilizing the Speer Gold Dot technology, which has set an industry benchmark for both self-defense and duty use, earning the trust of consumers and law enforcement world-wide. The bullet features a pressure-formed lead core that is bonded to an extremely uniform jacket a single atom at a time that virtually eliminates separation on impact for more retained weight and consistent penetration depths. The Gold Dot hollow-point design expands consistently through the full range of barriers. Reliable ignition and cycling are delivered thanks to sealed primers and nickel-plated brass.

Speer ammunition can be found at dealers nationwide or purchased online direct from Speer. For more information on all products from Speer or to shop online, visit www.speer.com

Adapter Breakaway Capability Improves Safety and Airborne Utility

CLEVELAND, OH (July 21, 2020) – Cleveland-based Team Wendy®, a leading provider of exceptional head protection systems, announced today the launch of its EXFIL® Adapter for the Ops-Core AMP™ Communication Headset. This headset, originally designed for Ops-Core’s ARC Rail, can now be also be mounted on Team Wendy helmets.

The adapter easily attaches each arm of the AMP headset to Team Wendy’s EXFIL Rail 2.0 or EXFIL Rail 3.0 accessory mounting systems. A press fit design – rather than a hard mount – ensures breakaway functionality when enough pressure is applied in an emergency situation.

“The breakaway capability is important for airborne operations,” said Mike Romanchek, director of sales and business development for Team Wendy. “The EXFIL Adapter reduces risk should lines get tangled around the headset by detaching from the helmet thus reducing the chances of equipment malfunction or injury.”

The EXFIL Adapter for the Ops-Core AMP Communication Headset retails for $21.99 and is available for purchase on TeamWendy.com and through authorized Team Wendy dealers.
