Feel The SURG Redux – USSOCOM Again Seeks Suppressor Upper Receiver Group for M4A1 Carbines

Monday, March 6th, 2017

Last year, USSOCOM’s Directorate of Procurement released a solicitation for the Suppressor Upper Receiver Group, however they canceled the program before it was completed. The requirement was a bit too ambitious for the state of the art.

Despite this, SURG isn’t dead. As updates made on the FedBizOpps page from February of this year shows, USSOCOM’s DoP regrouped, rewrote the requirement, and reissued it, with the latest amendment released on March 1st.

As a reminder: “The SURG weapon upgrade of the M4A1 Lower Receiver Group will allow the Warfighter’s weapon to be optimized for continuous suppressed use.” Interestingly, there’s no requirement, at least on the open to the public side, that the upper feature an integral suppressor, just that it is suppressed.

Several companies have licked pieces of the challenge, but not the whole thing as an integrally suppressed upper which can not only handle the M855A1 cartridge but also remain cool enough under use to meet the program’s objectives.

It remains to be seen whether the revitalized requirement will bear an issued product, or will phase out, due to an overly ambitious requirement, like the first time.

Visit www.fbo.gov to view the entire requirement.

Fibrotex’ Annual Multispectral Camouflage Workshop –8-9-10 May 2017

Saturday, March 4th, 2017

Unseen, unbeaten!

Fibrotex Technologies, and Profile Equipment are happy in invite your unit to participate in our annual multispectral operational camouflage workshop. As last year, the workshop will be held in Winterberg, Germany and will include Static & Mobile, Team & individual camouflage systems. This year’s first focus is on the operational practical aspect of how to build and Where to best place the systems to be able to integrate completely with the environment by ‘getting your hands dirty’ and using all the systems. Our second focus this year is on Mobility, introducing our 2nd Gen Mobile kits on moving platform and show casing the ability to dramatically decrease the signature of moving platforms, alongside present & future threats presentation and more.

As technology is very accessible nowadays, not always by the ‘right’ people, we are facing a whole new world where not only advanced friendly militaries and governments but also paramilitary groups and terror organizations have access to ‘state of the art’ tactical devices. With this ‘new’ component in the equation and the fact that there are major gaps between what the units need and what they actually have, we often find ourselves in an inferior position in the battle field.

By testing the systems in the workshop with your tactical devices and the training on how best to use them with the environment, we would be able to introduce some new tools to overcome these obstacles. There for we urge you to bring your sensors to the workshop (UV-VIS-NIR-SWIR-TIR and RADAR) and hand test the gear.

This year, we are happy to host an Israeli Sniper & Pneumatic Simulator Company. We will have an indoor shooting range where you would be able to shoot at Static & mobile targets with a variety of weapons (including your own if present).

Due to the nature of the workshop and the discretion of the attendees, all participants are required to stay onsite throughout the event. We provide and recommend the all-inclusive, onsite arrangement, including meals, drinks, basic (army style) sleeping arrangement and running hot water for showers.

It will be a pleasure to see you at the workshop. As places are limited and for logistic purposes, please RSVP before March 31st. After which will you we receive an invitation letter by name.
Best regards,

Super Vel Ammunition Returns

Saturday, March 4th, 2017

Super Vel PR pic - web size

Renowned for its invention of the jacketed hollow point bullet that revolutionized police ammunition in the 1960s, the Super Vel Cartridge Company® is back in business producing high-velocity handgun ammunition.

“Super Vel founder Lee Jurras was a true visionary. He invented the jacketed hollow point, hosted the first handgun metallic silhouette match and founded the Outstanding American Handgunner Foundation. We’re privileged and honored to have earned Lee’s blessing to resurrect Super Vel,” said Cameron Hopkins, president of the new Super Vel Cartridge Company.

Just like the original company founded in 1963, the new Super Vel specializes in high-performance handgun ammunition using jacketed hollow point bullets at high velocity. Today’s jacketed hollow points have progressed considerably since Jurras’ original designs. Today’s Super Vel hollow points feature skiving cuts (to facilitate reliable expansion), tapered copper jackets and better hollow cavity designs.

38 Super Snub

“Super Vel pioneered the use of lightweight hollow point bullets at extremely high velocity to minimize over-penetration and maximize stopping power. Today’s Super Vel carries that to the next level,” Hopkins said.
The new Super Vel Ammunition line includes specialized loads for niche applications. “Super Snub” is a .38 Special +P load designed specifically for Smith & Wesson J-frames and other snubnose revolvers with a low-flash powder that burns extremely efficiently in barrels as short as 1 7/8-inches. Firing a 90 gr. jacketed hollow point at over 1,300 feet per second from a J-frame, “Super Snub” is the only purpose-driven load on the market made specifically for snubbies.

Hush Puppy® harkens back to a special load that Jurras developed for the Navy SEALs in 1967 for use in the Mk 22 Mod 0 pistol, a highly customized S&W Model 39 that was issued with a wipe-style suppressor and came to be nick-named “hush puppy” for its covert role. Shooting a full metal jacket bullet at subsonic velocity, Super Vel’s new Hush Puppy® load drives a 147 gr. FMJ projectile at 900 feet per second. It’s dead quiet from a suppressed 9mm and also makes for a soft-shooting, low-recoil training round or a 3-gun competition round.

Subcompact 9mm pistols rise to a whole new performance level with Super Vel’s new 90 gr. jacketed hollow point in a +P load. From a Glock 43 (3-inch barrel), Super Vel’s 90 gr. JHP delivers 1,475 feet per second! That’s sizzling for a subcompact! The load produces over 1,650 feet per second from a Glock 17L.

45 ACP

Delivering 1,350 feet per second, Super Vel’s 115 gr. JHP in another +P 9mm Luger load is ideal for compact and full-size 9mm pistols. Rounding out the Super Vel lineup is a +P load in .45 ACP featuring a 185 gr. JHP at over 1,150 feet per second.

J.D. Jones, a legendary ballistics experimenter and one of the original pioneers of Super Vel in the 1960s, is a consultant for the new Super Vel Cartridge Company.

Super Vel Cartridge Company is located in Nevada, proudly employing a 100 percent American workforce.

Lockhart Tactical UBS-12 Under Barrel Shotgun GEN 2

Friday, March 3rd, 2017

Here are some notes and a photo we received from the designer of the Lockhart Tactical UBS-12.

I’m so happy about proud to finally have some GEN 2 pictures to release for the Lockhart Tactical UBS-12 Under Barrel Shotgun.

I started designing this mount mid last year. We built our first GEN 1 mounts, which can be seen on our website in the link below.

This is the ONLY product like this available on the market, made with pride right here in beautiful BC!

Our Gen 1 mount worked perfectly however it did not allow for the attachment of a butt stock and pistol grip. The UBS-12 would have only been able to be used in the “under barrel” configuration.

Our Gen 2 mount allows for our quick attach buttstock that includes a pistol grip to be attached and locked into position in under three seconds!

Our affordable cost puts this into everyone’s reach and not just the elite.

Check it out!

Leading Meeting and Events Destination Partners with Hero Dogs

National Harbor supports veterans and veteran programs

Hero Dogs at the play ground

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., Feb. 28, 2017— Developed by Peterson Companies, National Harbor has grown into a thriving micro city on the banks of the Potomac River. A mecca of shopping, dining and entertainment, what sets the location apart from others in the metro area is the supreme walkability. All within reach lay a variety of amenities including residences, office space, retail stores, playgrounds, restaurants and beach access. This extreme diversity is what made the partnership between National Harbor and Hero Dogs a perfect fit. National Harbor’s controlled, urban setting makes an ideal training location for service dogs and their veterans.

National Harbor has long been known for its partnerships with veteran organizations. Located within close proximity to the Nation’s Capital and close to military bases, helping veterans in the community is a natural fit.

    Hero Dogs on the slide

National Harbor most recently has welcomed Hero Dogs, a 501(c)3 organization in Maryland that raises, trains and places service dogs with veterans at no cost to the veteran, for training sessions to help acclimate them to urban situations. With more than 160 retail shops, more than 40 restaurants, an outlet mall, seven hotels (including 470,000 square feet of meeting and event space), and residential housing, National Harbor allows these service dogs and their veterans to have maximum exposure all within a single day. Hero Dogs recently participated in a CBS This Morning segment at National Harbor, showcasing their service dogs’ elite training along the waterfront plaza.

“National Harbor has a commitment to supporting military organizations and nonprofits dedicated to helping our military,” said Angela Sweeney, vice president and chief marketing officer for Peterson Companies. National Harbor has hosted a variety of veteran organizations, military events and hosts military bands throughout the area to perform on the property’s waterfront stage. “Salute the Sunset” concert series partners with the Air Force and National Harbor is one of the homes of the Air Force bands. Over the past year, National Harbor (and many other Peterson Companies properties) launched a program, “Combat Wounded,” with Wounded Warrior Family & Support to provide convenient parking for Purple Heart recipients. The property also offers a variety of military discounts throughout, visit www.nationalharbor.com/military/ to see the many participating restaurants, retailers and others.

Hero Dogs training on the plaza

National Harbor, and Peterson Foundation, also support Hero Dogs by sponsoring a dog, in addition to providing a training venue for the numerous dogs undergoing special training. It’s not just the number of retail stores at National Harbor that make it ideal for Hero Dogs; it is the unique variety of stores as well. In Aug. 2016, National Harbor’s Carhartt store, one of only 30 in the country and the only location in the state of Maryland, hosted a fashion show to benefit Hero Dogs. Carhartt’s rugged attire and accessories make them a favorite brand of dog lovers. This event helped connect their customers with National Harbor’s commitment to helping veterans throughout the area.

    Hero Dogs on the Carousel

Hero Dogs even rode on National Harbor’s iconic Carousel, taking the dogs on board just like they would if their future veteran pays a visit to the micro city. With over 12 million people experiencing National Harbor each year, the bustling streets with visitors of all ages give Hero Dogs the opportunity to practice navigating crowds.

Accessible by Amtrak, NH2 Metro Bus and water taxi, National Harbor also allows for a variety of transportation methods so each service dog is well prepared to lead their veteran through daily life.

For more information on National Harbor, go to www.NationalHarbor.com. For information on Hero Dogs, visit www.hero-dogs.org.
