Warrior Expo East Registration Now Open

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

With the West coast version behind us, ADS has just announced the opening of registration for Warrior Expo East July 14 & 15 in Virginia Beach. If you missed Warrior West, you have got to make it to this expo comprising over 190 manufacturers and an anticipated attendance of over 1,500. Plus, there’s a big surprise in store. ADS has invited General Stanley McChrystal to serve as keynote speaker. Check out the video for an invite from the man himself.

I have attended Warrior East for the past two years and both shows have proven very rewarding. Additionally, I was lucky enough to participate in last week’s Warrior West, and even though the defense budget is still in flux, there was a lot of energy in both industry and Mil/Gov. The war isn’t over. Operations are ongoing and folks on both sides of the coin were really focused on solving problems with real solutions. It is fascinating to watch this happen in person.

This isn’t a show for tire kickers. Warrior Expo is intended for customers, partners, suppliers, manufacturers, military, federal, state and/or local government agencies, law enforcement and first responders and proof of ID is required for admittance. It is not intended for the general public.

Norotos Product Briefing

Monday, May 9th, 2011

Norotos Director of Manufacturing Rob Prendergast gave us a great rundown on three products during last week’s Warrior Expo West.

The Universal Shroud fits helmets with one or three holes and can be fitted with a strap for helmets that are not drilled. It also features a low profile as well as a breakaway tether plug.

Adaptable to the PVS 7,14,15,18,21, the Improved Night Vision Goggle Mount is backward compatible to any standard mount out there. Of all three of these products it is the most versatile and most applicable due to its compatibility with a variety of systems and unparallelled adaptability.

Finally, the Dual Dovetail Adapter allows you to rapidly transition the sight from right to left eye or vice versa. It also turns the PVS14 off when in the up position and turns it back on when lowered.

Gerber Cable Dawg

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

We were able to take a closer look at the Gerber Cable Dawg at Warrior Expo West. It is an impressive tool designed specifically for military Information Technology specialists but in our conversations with readers we have come to realize that it has just as much applicability in the civilian market. It features a Wire cutter, CAT5 jacket cutter, RJ45 Crimper Head, Wire strippers, Knife blade, Magnetic driver extension with tool heads. Additionally, the handles are crafted from glass filled nylon to help reduce weight and the side of the handle that houses the driver extension and tool heads can be removed.

Swoop Mitt Shell from Outdoor Research

Friday, May 6th, 2011

OR’s Mike Christian gave us some excellent insight into the Swoop Mitt Shell at Warrior Expo West. Developed for pilots and aviation crews in extremely cold conditions at high altitudes, the shell of the Swoop Mitt provides waterproof and breathable FR protection. The FR goat-leather palm is water resistant and provides a solid grip and the trigger finger mitt design accommodates all fingers in the mitt cavity for great warmth and dexterity.

LBT Unveils Sentinel Armor System

Friday, May 6th, 2011

This is a quick peak at London Bridge Trading’s Sentinel Releasable Armor System, unveiled May 5th, 2011 at Warrior Expo West. The Sentinel is a captive releasable armor system meaning all pieces are retained even after the user has pulled the cutaway. Additionally, the Sentinel incorporates LBT’s Comfort Armor Suspension System (CASS), allowing users to carry heavier loads while transferring the weight to the hips for increased comfort and ventilation.

Look for a more in-depth article on the Sentinel soon.

Tactical Tailor Fight Light Preview

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Tactical Tailor has been working on an entirely new line of products dubbed the “Fight Light” series. Tactical Tailor took a look at all of the Army’s desired attributes for lighterweight systems and incorporated them into the design of this line. During development their mantra has become, “Weight + Mobility = Soldier Survivability”. In addition to new designs Tactical Tailor has been working with operational forces to ensure that the new gear is ready for the market. Fight Light has undergone some pretty extensive testing with Army SF and based on direct user feedback, modifications have been made to the base designs.

This model is the Battle Belt. It will come in two sizes but each of these can be further adjusted three times in a telescoping fashion to refine the fit. As you can see it features an ergonomic design with a kidney bolster. It has an open channel through the interior of the belt to accept a duty or rigger’s belt. There are also access channels allong the bottom of the Battle Belt to facilitate the use of drop leg holsters or subloads. Additionally, two rows of PALS webbing is available along the exterior of the belt to affix modular pouches. Finally, the Battle Belt is padded but there are no plans to offer an armored version.

The Battle Belt will be available with or without the suspenders that are of a unique design. The obvious inspiration is the TT X-harness available for years as a TT product for use with chest rigs. They have modified it a bit and added a split tail suspension off the rear and single straps down the front. As you can see, it incorporates a drag handle as well as cable management to route comms and power cables as well as hydration tubes.

Fight Light products should start to appear with a hard launch next month in MultiCam and A-TACS.

Reversible Rainsuit from Dakota Outerwear

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

As I walked through the Warrior Expo West yesterday I saw an interesting item out of the corner of my eye. Seeing how the USAF just adopted OCP (MultiCam) for Airmen bound for Afghanistan I found this rain jacket to look pretty handy. Originally developed for use when we still issued separate woodland and desert patterns, it reverses for compatibility with either environment but the design went out of favor as the Air Force adopted the Digital Tiger Stripe Pattern. Now that the Air Force once again has two patterns, Dakota Outerwear thought it was time to reintroduce the concept. We agree.

The hood stows in the collar and pockets are accessible no matter which pattern is exposed.

Dakota Outerwear is available for agency/unit purchase from www.adsinc.com/dakota-outerwear.

Ops-Core Base Jump Helmet in Red

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Up to now all I have seen are artist renderings of the Base Jump helmet in red. The colors weren’t coming out quite right, but Ops-Core had one fresh out of the mould on display today at the Warrior Expo West. Additionally, they attached the new Contour HD camera mount I recently wrote about. With its ARC rails and NVG mount, the Base Jump is unlike anything that has ever been available.

As you can see, it is a very vibrant red and will be perfect for locating bobbing heads in the water during water jumps or other MAROPS training as well as for high adventure and extreme sports use. You can configure the Base Jump helmet with a variety of lights, cameras and other accessories using the VAS shroud and ARC rails to suit your activity and it is a great lower cost alternative to the more expensive carbon fiber FAST Bump Helmet for many applications.

For more info visit www.ops-core.com. It is featured in their catalog which can be downloaded here.

All of Ops-Core’s products are available through www.ADSinc.com/Ops-Core.
