Ops-Core Issues Product Advisory Information for FAST Base Jump Helmet

Thursday, May 26th, 2016

Last week we shared a press release from TNVC regarding the availability of Ops-Core’s FAST Base Jump Helmet. Earlier today, I followed up with Ops-Core at SOFIC and they issued this press release. They found the issue on their own, conducted testing, and once they found a fix, have been forthcoming with me about the situation. It’s important to note that this issue does not pertain to any other Ops-Core or Gentex products.

Product Advisory Information for FAST Base Jump Helmet
(Now known as FAST Bump)*

Ops-Core, Inc. announced today that it is offering an impact liner upgrade kit for previously purchased FAST Base Jump Helmets (now known as FAST Bump) to ensure the helmet satisfies the blunt impact protection specification in ACH Specification CO/PD-05-04:2007. The FAST Bump Helmet will continue to be available for purchase according to the revised product specification which is available on the updated FAST Bump Helmet product page.

Testing confirmed that the FAST Bump Helmet meets the BS EN 1385 blunt impact test specification, but not the ACH blunt impact specification. While no customers or users have reported any issues, Ops-Core is offering the upgrade kit to ensure conformance with the ACH specification.

It is anticipated that the upgrade kit will be available in the 3rd quarter 2016. The upgrade kit will be provided and installed free of cost to customers requesting the upgrade. Customers should visit the website for details, which will be posted soon.

For questions regarding the upgrade process, or if you have a current order for the FAST Bump Helmet, please contact Patrick Stallings at 617-603-2433 or support@ops-core.com between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. ET Monday to Friday.

To learn more about the FAST Bump Helmet upgrade, read the FAQs. (Available through the announcement on the website).

Ops-Core is continuing to test and evaluate the FAST Bump Helmet and encourages customers to visit www.ops-core.com, which will be updated as additional information becomes available.

SOFIC – Revision Introduces First Multi-Use Bump Shell With Ballistic Capability

Tuesday, May 24th, 2016

The new Revision Multi Use Bump Shell is under 1.5 lbs including ballistic capability. While the inherent properties are minimal (frag), when used in conjunction with an appliqué (currently unavailable for public viewing) it offers ACH level protection. It can also be configured for general purpose of as a coxswain helmet.

The rail system is skeletonized to save weight. The venting was positioned specifically to work with their two-piece appliqué so that it will still work even when appliqué elements are in place (graphic below).

It also incorporates a new liner system which is easily removable for the integration of comms.

Look for commercial availability around SHOT Show.

TNVC Issues Press Release On Availabilty Of Ops-Core BASE Jump Helmets

Friday, May 20th, 2016

TNVC shared this important Press Release regarding an announcement by Ops-Core to their dealers regarding the cessation of production of the BASE Jump Helmet. We have spoken with representatives at Ops-Core for additional details and they have told us they will issue a statement regarding the future of the BASE Jump Helmet during next week’s SOFIC.

TNVC has just been informed from Ops-Core, a division of Gentex, has ceased production of the popular FAST Base Jump Polymer Bump Helmet. This came as quite a shock to us as the move was extremely sudden. No more FAST Base Jump Helmets will be produced. What’s more, Ops-Core will not be fulfilling any backorders. TNVC has learned that Ops-Core is currently designing a replacement helmet, tentatively called the FAST Bump Helmet 2.0. They did not confirm any details on new features or upgrades; only stating that it is slated to begin production in August 2016 (which means a fourth quarter delivery at the earliest). We can certainly speculate about the new helmet, but there is no confirmation on new features at this time.

While the news of a new Ops-Core helmet is exciting, the move of immediately discontinuing production of the current model leaves currently back-ordered customers in a bind. In the interim, Ops-Core has offered the following options:

1. A one for one substitution of all currently TNVC backordered FAST Base Jump Helmets with a FAST Carbon Helmet. This is a phenomenal deal seeing as the FAST Carbon helmet is more than twice as expensive as the polymer version. These substitutions are expected to take 60-90 additional days.
2. A one for one substitution of all currently backordered FAST Base Jump Helmets with the new FAST Bump Helmet 2.0 when it is available.

Yes, this means longer lead times for current backorders. But, when all is said and done, customers will have a better helmet at the same price they paid for a FAST Base Jump Helmet. It’s hard to argue with that math. Please note: Ops-Core is only offering this substitution deal to currently backordered customers. TNVC has already removed the FAST Base Jump Helmet from our website because we are sold out.

Warrior West – Norotos Universal Shroud-Light

Friday, May 6th, 2016

This is an update to the Norotos Universal Shroud-Light, which offers integrated light.

There are two banks of LEDs which consists of four White LEDs, two Red LEDs and two IR emitters. The user can choose between each color and IR as well as intensity from 4% to 100%. Additionally, the IR mode offers constant on or strobe. The shroud uses a single AA which will run the device for up to 14 hours.

A cool feature that Norotos has integrated into the design is that there is a small Red LED on the bottom of the shroud that shines while the IR mode is engaged so you will know it is on. The light is only visibie to the user.

MTEK – FLUX Ballistic Helmet Available for Pre-order

Friday, April 29th, 2016

Martinsville, IN – April 29, 2016 – MTEK, manufacturer of high-performance ballistic products, announces they are now taking pre-orders for the latest development in head protection- The FLUX Ballistic. This helmet is a lightweight modular design that has an array of technological advancements in the ballistic helmet space.

The FLUX features an undercut shell geometry, which allows it to closely follow the natural contour of the head when compared to conventional “flared-out” helmet geometries. The lightweight shell is molded in-house using high-performance ballistic material, which is formed without any darts or slits in the material. It’s also 100% boltless, or bolt-through-less, meaning no drilled holes or perforations anywhere throughout the shell, and no hardened-steel bolts or fasteners. The finished shell weight of 1.1 lbs (2.2lbs total system weight) in conjunction with unique geometry, allows the FLUX Ballistic to be as light and comfortable as a bump helmet, while retaining the ballistic performance of much heavier systems.

“We could have released a conventional helmet 2 years ago, but decided to keep pushing the boundaries to avoid any compromise of the intended design. This required a significant amount of time and energy in order to further develop the processing techniques in order to take this to the next level”, explained MTEK Vice President of Business Development, Ryan Bowser.

The suspension and retention systems were made to support the ballistic shell in the best way possible. The Fluxliner is designed for the additional coverage area of the helmet’s unique shape and to make it as comfortable as possible for wear during prolonged use. Complementing the “Bolt-through-less” FLUX design, the retention system utilizes Inverse Clip, which allows the user to expeditiously change the retention system for removal, replacement or upgrade. The FLUX helmet uses the MAGPUL MLOK negative mounting space for accessory attachment points. This allows for some unique options for interchanging accessories (such as cameras and lights) between the helmet and rifle. Additionally, a spacer can be removed from underneath the accessory rail and replaced with upgraded ballistic covers. This furthers the helmet’s modular concept while ensuring maximum “rail-estate”.

“In the beginning, we asked ourselves how do we improve on some of the fantastic helmets that are already available? The answer we found was certainly not an easy one, but, in the end, has resulted in a lightweight, comfortable helmet that is configurable to many different situations and individuals.”

All FLUX Ballistic Helmets come standard with FLUX MLOK rails, Battle Bungees, exterior Velcro Loop, and the industry-leading Wilcox Industries L4 Series Shroud.

*Ballistic Side Covers, Mandible, and ISOFIT coming Q4 2016.
