Helikon-Tex – Matilda Backpack

Monday, March 13th, 2017

At IWA this pack from Helikon-Tex caught my eye, reminding me of an ALICE Medium, with its three external pockets. Called the Matilda, it’s part of their growing Bushcraft line and was designed in conjunction with Survival Tech. Like ALICE, each of those external pockets has a back channel so you can carry odd-sized items. Unlike ALICE, the Matilda’s pockets are all closed with Side Release buckles. In addition to compression straps, the pack also offers PALS compatibility. The back is stiffened and incorprates breathable mesh.

Claw Gear – New Line Of Laser Cut Mag Pouches

Monday, March 13th, 2017

Swiss brand, Claw Gear, introduced a new line of laser cut magazine pouches during IWA. Made from a composite material called Tacticoat.

They are similar to many other products on the market with integrated, PALS compatibility. Except, for two things. First off, they are being offered by a European brand, which gives them a leg up in that market.

Second, they developed a means to keep the flap handy, in the event you need to replace the magazine in the pouch. The flap falls forward on the pouch and stays put via Velcro.

This image shows the colors available.

Additionally, they’ve introduced a belt with laser cut PALS slots. It’s called the KD-One and uses a G-hook to secure the running eod of the adjuster. The two G-hooks on either side of the belt in this photo are there to hold the belt for display.

Tasmanian Tiger displayed several news items including the TT Plate Carrier LP and TT Plate Carrier SK.

TT Plate Carrier LP

Manufactured from T-Stretch and T-Square Ripstop, the TT Plate Carrier LP is a lightweight carrier which weighs just 375 g and is designed to be worn under outer garments for low viz operations. Consequently, the materials are elastic for a snug fit, yet incorporates air permeable mesh on yhe interior so you don’t overheat. Additionally, there is a small pocket with Velcro closure at the front for flat items and Velcro panels at the front and rear for ID. The shoulder straps are adjustable for length and the cummerbund offers waist adjustment. The Vest fits all standard Schutzklasse (SK) 4 panels up to 30 x 25 cm.

TT Plate Carrier SK

The skeletonized design of the TT Plate Carrier SK is manufactured from TPU Cordura 700D with generous PALS compatible Velcro fields at the front and rear. It weighs 490 g and will integrate the TT FL Chest Rig. The waist strap is a simple bungee-style affair with side release buckle attachment. Finally, the vest comes with two elastic plate pockets which will accept most any SK4 plates from 30 x 25 cm up to 33 x 27 cm. This design allows the carrier to cradle the plates which are contained within the pockets.
