Australia’s Victoria Police Select Daniel Defense Carbines

Monday, December 23rd, 2019

This release is from Huntsman, the company who will fulfill the contract.

VICTORIA POLICE AWARDS CONTRACT TO SUPPLY 300 DANIEL DEFENSE COMPLETE RIFLE SYSTEMS

Townsville, QLD – December 2019 – Huntsman Aus Pty Ltd (Huntsman) is pleased to confirm the award of a contract to supply 300 semi-automatic Daniel Defense rifle systems to be used by Victoria Police throughout the state from mid-2020.

The new contract followed a comprehensive tender process and the Daniel Defense rifle systems, supplied by Huntsman, were selected to expand Victoria Police’s capability to respond to critical incidents.

Huntsman managing director Rob Woods said it was an honour to be selected to supply the Daniel Defense rifle systems to Victoria Police.

“To be given the opportunity to play a small role in the broader Victorian Government investment in the Community Safety Statement 2018/19 is significant,” Mr Woods said.

“To have the complete system that we submitted extensively assessed against other companies within the Australian Defence industry is always a great test.”

“The contract win acknowledges the reliability, durability and accuracy of the Daniel Defense rifle and demonstrates the exceptional value for money of the assembled package.”

“Each component within the package is world class and most importantly proven through operational use.”

“The delivery of these rifles marks the continued growth of the national Daniel Defense fleet that Huntsman supports.”

“I am confident that officers who are issued the rifle now have the very best tool for the protection of the community and their own life.”

Recently the Australian Federal Police announced that the Daniel Defense rifle was selected for employment by first responders at designated Australian Airports. Other state police agencies also have Daniel Defense carbines in service.

Mr Woods said all Daniel Defense rifles were built using the latest in design and manufacturing processes.

“We are confident the police officers who will carry the new rifles will appreciate working with such a lightweight, reliable and accurate rifle,” he said.

“The rifle functions flawlessly with a broad range of ammunition, which will provide a degree of future proofing as law enforcement ammunition technology continues to develop.

“We are conscious of the enormous responsibility that the supply of equipment to law enforcement represents, especially when that equipment will be employed for the protection of life.

“We look forward to continuing a strong relationship with Victoria Police and supporting them into the future.”

Huntsman will provide Victoria Police Armourers with certified Daniel Defense Armourer training.

Huntsman will also provide Instructor Training through our partner Nexus Training Solutions, an Australian-owned training provider delivering world class equipment integration training to global government end-users.

This release is from the Victoria Police:

Following a comprehensive tender process, Victoria Police has signed a new contract that will deliver 300 semi-automatic rifles to be used by uniform and frontline support police throughout the state from mid-2020.

The new weapons will be supplied by Huntsman Aus and will expand Victoria Police’s capability to respond to active armed offender and terrorist attacks outside of Melbourne.

More than 700 police officers from the Public Order Response Team (PORT) and four 24-hour regional uniform stations – Geelong, Ballarat, Morwell and Shepparton – will be trained to use the rifles in response to critical incidents.

PORT have been selected to receive the semi-automatic rifles as they are a frontline support unit which can be deployed anywhere in Victoria in response to major events, issues and high-risk times. The four regional stations have been selected to ensure there is a strengthened response in key regional areas

The rifles will not be personally issued and will instead be assigned to the relevant areas to be delegated each shift.

Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton, Regional Operations, said the introduction of the new weapons follows the rollout of active armed offender training to all police officers and the release of the new hostile vehicle policy; all of which are designed to uplift officer capability when responding to critical incidents.

“Let me be clear, it will be a very sad day if the rifles are used, but the reality is we need to be prepared if an active armed offender or terrorist attack was to occur in regional Victoria,” Deputy Commissioner Patton said.

“By expanding this capability to four key regional hubs and PORT the community can be reassured we have trained officers who can respond to these incidents in a timely manner.

“I also want to reassure the community that police officers will not be patrolling the streets with the rifles as part of general duties. Unless they are responding to a critical incident, the rifles will be securely stored at the police station or in vehicles and the community won’t see them.”

All members across the organisation will be provided with awareness training specific to the deployment of semi-automatic rifles from March 2020. The training of more than 700 officers will then progressively be rolled out from June next year until the end of 2021.

The rollout of the semi-automatic rifles is due to a $25 million investment from the Victorian Government as part of the Community Safety Statement 2018/19

Customized Polaris Machines Used to Raise Funds for Police, Fire and Military Charities; Voting Process Provides Consumers the Chance to Win the Polaris Machine of Their Choice

Minneapolis (Nov. 25, 2019) – Polaris Off Road, the world leader in powersports and off-road innovation, today announced United We Ride – a partnership and fundraising effort with the Diesel Brothers that honors our nation’s military, police and fire departments. The program is highlighted by a Diesel Brothers’ customized series of recently launched Polaris machines. Each machine has been custom-made to honor a specific branch of American “first responders” – the RZR PRO XP Ultimate for policemen and policewomen, the RANGER CREW XP 1000 for firemen and firewomen, and the GENERAL XP 4 1000 for members of the U.S. military.

The program is powered by a national voting process where consumers vote for their favorite build, and voting totals determine the donation amount from Polaris to each of the program’s three charity beneficiaries – $25,000 to first place, $15,000 to second and $10,000 to third place. By casting their vote, consumers are automatically entered for the chance to win an all-new RANGER CREW XP 1000 with Ride Command, RZR PRO XP Ultimate or a GENERAL XP 4 1000 DELUXE.

“We are forever grateful for the commitment and sacrifice made by members of our military and first responders, and we are proud to continue our 15-year tradition of providing vehicles for their duties and their well-deserved free time,” said Kyle Duea, vice president of Off-Road Vehicle Marketing, Polaris. “Partnering with the Diesel Brothers to customize our machines and drive awareness of these charities is merely one way we can show our appreciation, while honoring their daily efforts to protect us, our communities and our freedom.

The United We Ride program will be donating to the following charities:

·        Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) – Provides resources to support the families and co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty as they cope with the tragic loss and work to rebuild their lives.

·        The Gary Sinise First Responders Foundation – Provides critical funding for emergency relief, training, and essential equipment to ensure our heroic firefighters have the resources they need.

·        Your Grateful Nation – Provides support, guidance and resources to transition special operations veterans into their next successful career.

“The whole Diesel Brothers’ family has a deep respect for those who selflessly protect, serve and care for this great country,” said Dave Sparks, Diesel Sellerz. “That’s why we jumped at the opportunity to work with our most valued industry partners at Polaris to build the unique UTVs intended to honor the hard-working men and women of the U.S. military, law enforcement, and first responders. This is just a small token of our gratitude for their hard work and dedicated service.”

Milipol 19 – NFM Introduces GENTO Duty Belt

Thursday, November 21st, 2019

The new GENTO Duty Belt from Norway’s NFM is designed primarily for LE.

The idea behind GENTO was that Law Enforcement officers generally have to choose between comfort and stability of their load which is born primarily on the duty belt. By introducing polymer into the equation, they could make the belt much thinner and yet retain rigidity.

Additionally, GENTO offers lumbar support. That large module at the back not only increases stability but it houses an adjustment system which allows the wearer to loosen or tighten the belt from the rear.

Here you can see the adjustments on either side of the rear of GENTO.

Additionally, you can configure different rear panels if the need arises.

Additionally, duty gear can be fitted to the belt and stabilized in place with Velcro fittings so they won’t slide around.

Dallas SWAT Selects LWRCI IC-A5 Surefire, Aimpoint, B.E. Meyers For Their New Rifle System

Saturday, November 9th, 2019

Elite Tactical Unit fields first completely new weapons and components upgrade in departments’ history.

Cambridge, MD (November 8, 2019) –  LWRC International, the leader in piston driven carbines and rifles, is honored to have been chosen, and fielded as the duty carbine for the Dallas, Texas SWAT Team.

In an official statement released today- ” The Dallas Texas Police Department SWAT team has selected and fielded the LWRCI IC-A5 carbine. The entire carbine setup was the first time in the departments history to obtain factory new weapon and components, identified, tested and selected by its team members, and delivered as a complete kit.”

Dallas SWAT Team members conducted long and rigorous testing on each component from several companies over a nearly 2 year review process. At the end of that process they chose the LWRCI IC-A5 Individual Carbine in a 10.5″ barrel configuration as its issued carbine for their elite tactical unit.

The IC-A5 is built on the patented LWRCI short-stroke gas piston system that offers unparalleled reliability and easy maintenance. Dual Control fully ambidextrous lower receiver includes bolt catch and release, magazine release and fire control access from both sides of the IC-A5 make it a versatile option for any operator. A low profile 2 position adjustable gas block allows the operator to compensate for running a suppressor.

Key accessory components were also included in the testing process. Dallas SWAT chose the Aimpoint CompM5 red dot as their primary sighting system, a Surefire SOCOM Mini II suppressor, the Surefire M622 Ultra SCOUT Light and the MAWL-DA visible / IR laser aiming and illumination device from B.E. Meyers to complete the package.

The team members who tested and chose the system issued this statement to those who made this possible.  “Thank you to the citizens of Dallas who donated the funds to the Team foundation that ultimately paid for the purchase. This outstanding rifle package was entirely privately-funded and donated to our Dallas SWAT officers. We cannot thank those outstanding civic leaders and their associations enough for their enthusiasm to support us and make this rifle a possibility.”

“At this time, we are going leave these special donors remain anonymous, but you know who you are.” They also wished to express their gratitude to the Fort Worth SWAT team who had suggested the LWRCI rifle and components that they had tested and selected two years prior. Thanks as well to DSG Arms, an Authorized LWRCI Law Enforcement Distributor who won the procurement contract and managed the logistics to assemble the kit as delivered.”

Upon receipt of the carbines, Dallas SWAT went through several weeks of new equipment familiarization and training, contracted and provided by Victory First and the manufacturers to increase proficiency with the new technology and benefits of the components. After several long training cycles and qualifications, Dallas SWAT began their operational deployments with new equipment.

Spirit of Blue Awards Tourniquet Grant to Glendale Heights Police Department

Friday, November 8th, 2019

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – November 5, 2019 – The Spirit of Blue Foundation announced that it has awarded a Safety Equipment Grant to the Glendale Heights Police Department (GHPD) to outfit their entire force of officers with lifesaving tourniquets inside of rugged duty belt cases.  The GHPD uniform policy was amended to include mandatory wear of the North American Rescue Gen7 C-A-T Tourniquet inside of an Eleven 10 RIGID TQ Case with Basketweave finish as part of its official uniform.  The grant was funded in large part by a strategic partnership with Law Enforcement United, along with contributions from North American Rescue and Eleven 10, and is valued at $3,818.38.

“Our officers are now equipped to render life-saving aid to themselves, fellow officers and members of our community,” said Chief Douglas R. Flint of the Glendale Heights Police Department.  “Tourniquets are an essential piece of equipment that every officer should have access to on their duty belts.”

Spirit of Blue Co-Founder and Board Member Todd Parola (center left) presented Glendale Heights Police Chief Douglas Flint (center right) with the safety equipment grant at a recent ceremony.  All 54 officers of the department will now carry a tourniquet as part of their uniform.

Tourniquets have proven to be incredibly effective in stemming blood flow to an injured extremity, and their use has vastly improved the survivability of soldiers in combat over the last two decades.  That learning overseas is now being leveraged to save injured law enforcement officers here at home.  When only precious minutes exist to treat such an injury, tourniquets are able to be applied individually or on a fellow officer to prevent excessive blood loss until that individual can be placed into medical care.  As a secondary benefit, officers who carry a tourniquet are also able to use them to rescue a member of the community who may have experienced a similar type of injury.  Spirit of Blue Foundation will replace any tourniquet that is used in the line of duty for the life of the tourniquet so that no officer who uses their tourniquet will have to go without one in the future.

To date, Spirit of Blue has granted over 3,300 tourniquets nationwide which have resulted in six documented saves – 5 with members of the community and one officers save which came in June of 2019.

“We are honored to place these 54 tourniquets into service here in Glendale Heights,” commented Todd Parola, Spirit of Blue co-founder and Board Member, who also lives in the Chicagoland area.  “We are excited that these officers are now safer, and that they could end up saving a life as a result.”

The lead sponsor for the grant was Law Enforcement United (LEU), who has supported Spirit of Blue with over $280,000 in safety grant funding since 2015.  LEU is an organization of active and retired police officers who honor fallen officers and raise funds to assist charitable organizations that serve the law enforcement community.  Each year LEU members ride 250 miles or more into Washington, DC to participate in National Police Week events and carry flags in honor of fallen officers which are given to the surviving family members upon their arrival.  Since its founding in 2009, LEU has raised over $6,750,000 for law enforcement causes.  Other sponsors included North American Rescue and Eleven 10 who offered special pricing on the equipment.

Statistics released by the Officer Down Memorial Page show that 102 law enforcement officers have lost their lives in 2019.  On average, 150 officers are lost in the line of duty each year.  37 of those deaths were firearm related, which so far has been the leading cause of officer deaths this year.  The reality of these statistics, and the increasing number of underfunded law enforcement agencies across the country, fuel the Spirit of Blue safety grant initiative.

The Spirit of Blue Foundation actively encourages the public at large to honor and appreciate law enforcement officers who serve and protect our communities. By supporting the Spirit of Blue Foundation, the public can make an impact in the lives of law enforcement officers every day.
