Now through June 30th, Chrome honors US Military personnel by inviting Veterans and their families to bring their military duffles or fatigues to one of Chrome’s four HUB locations in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, and Portland. Chrome bag makers will use this material to create a Custom Citizen Messenger bag for the cost of a regular Citizen Messenger bag.

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

One of our astute readers ran across this Russian video of the Chechen War featuring a Soldier firing a PKM machine gun fed from a backpack. The scene depicted above is at 1:13 on this song video from the move, “Specnaz.”

Thank you LF.

Jedburgh Pack

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Designed by a Veteran SF NCO and PMC, the Jedburgh Pack from Bad Company Tactical is named for the OSS Teams of World War II. It is a semi-rigid design intended to be worn primarily with armor thanks to removable plastic inserts and aluminum shims. The aluminum shim can be bent to your body’s or equipment’s contours. Additionally, the pack itself is no wider than your back and you can run your comms wires, hydration hoses, antennas etc through the left, right or middle of the of the top of the pack.

The shoulder straps feature four points of adjustment and actually get longer at the top so that you don’t have buckles clear up at your nipple level when wearing armor. To this end, they are also thin and narrow in order to reduce bulk. Manufactured from 500D Curdura, this pack is Berry compliant.

Blast from the Past – Mystery Cinch

Sunday, May 20th, 2012

We constantly attract new readers at SSD so every once in awhile we go back into the archives and resurrect an old post. When the Mystery Cinch was first released it was shockingly simplistic. Now, it is more poignant than ever since being adopted as part of the USMC FILBE pack. Once you look at this video you will hit yourself in the forehead with your palm and say, “Why didn’t I think of that?” In fact, simplicity might be its elegance, but it has garnered Mystery Ranch a patent.

Designed to work with any pack, the Mystery Cinch routes the straps close to the center of of the chest and prevents the straps from creeping up under the arm. Additionally, pack straps don’t adjust tight like they would during normal wear so when released from the Mystery Cinch they fall right off the arm. Its single motion, quick-release design sheds the pack smoothly. Because the Mystery Cinch uses the armor’s PALS grid it offers the flexibility to accommodate a variety of armor vests, pouch configurations, and pack straps.
