5.11, Amazon Prime Video and Higher Ground Come Together to Air Drop Gift Packages to Military Veterans

COLLABORATION CELEBRATES NATIONAL MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH AND TOM CLANCY’S WITHOUT REMORSE FILM RELEASE5.11, Inc., the global innovator of purpose-built apparel, footwear, and gear, today announced that the company, along with Amazon Prime Video and Higher Ground, celebrated National Military Appreciation Month and the April 30 release of the film Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse in exciting fashion earlier this week by using drones to air drop gift packages to three deserving Los Angeles-based military veterans. The packages, valued at nearly $400, contained pieces of 5.11’s latest and most innovative gear including a RUSH24 2.0 Pack, TacTec Plate Carrier, EDC L2 Flashlight, and more.

Recipients for the gift packages were selected by Higher Ground, a non-profit organization that provides adaptive recreational programs for individuals with disabilities as well as programs specific to Veterans.

“As a brand, we value the sacrifices and service our military personnel provide our nation and we are eager to find opportunities to show gratitude toward those servicemen and women,” said 5.11’s CMO, Debra Radcliff. “This fun and unique project was particularly exciting and a great way to kickoff National Military Appreciation Month.”

Celebrated annually during the month of May, National Military Appreciation Month is a time to honor current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Army Chief of Staff GEN McConville Models “Ike” Jacket

General McConville, Chief of Staff of the Army, was spotted at Massachusetts General Hospital sporting the optional “Ike” Jacket for the Army Green Uniform.

In recognition of their dedication to the health care of military veterans and the families of fallen heroes, leaders from Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program, received two of the nation’s most prestigious honors. The Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service–the second-highest award presented by the Secretary of Defense–was presented to Tom Werner, Chairman of the Boston Red Sox and the Red Sox Foundation. The Public Service Commendation Medal–the fourth-highest public service decoration in the U.S. Army–was awarded to Peter L. Slavin, MD, President, Massachusetts General Hospital, Ross Zafonte, DO, chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mass General, and Michael Allard, chief operating officer for Home Base. Each recipient received their award, presented by Army Chief of Staff General Jim McConville, during a ceremony yesterday at the Pentagon. Congratulations to all!

FirstSpear Friday Focus: Medical Kit

This week’s FS focus looks at medical kit and items, including a pack, IFAK Medical Thong and two pouches.

The Medical Trauma Assault Pack (MTAP), Thin Profile features a large zippered pocket allowing access to the contents. It also integrates the bungee attachment points to secure odd sized items as well as three “tear out” pockets which can be tossed to others providing aid. An easily accessed grab handle will allow the pack to be hung in vehicles or airframes.

The Special Operations Forces (SOF) Medical Pouch securely holds organized, individual first aid items. A half-moon zipper allows rapid access to the inside of the pocket and also enables quick closure. Attach to your platform with FirstSpear 6/12 or 6/9. Loop faced fabric square on the exterior allows for mounting of FirstSpear Cell Tags.

The FirstSpear Tourniquet Pouch is designed to securely hold one CAT or TQs Style tourniquet, or similar sized medical supplies. With a highly visible red release tab, the pouch opens quickly to allow instant access to the tourniquet. Utilizing the FirstSpear 6/9 attachment system this pouch can be attached to all 6/12™ platforms and also compatible with older MOLLE systems. Additionally, it can be directly attached to FirstSpear’s line of belts including the Assaulters Gun Belt (AGB) and Line One Belt.

The Improved IFAK Med Thong has some new features that will help you in the field. It has a 6/9 attachment style and 6/12 slits have been added in key areas of this item which has increased its versatility so it will now work with the FS TQ Pocket or the new Rapid Access Pocket Pressure Dressing. The thong is also capable of fitting a variety of IFAKS. When space on your chest rig or plate carrier is at a premium, this component will let you add a few extra critical items that you would rather not have in your pack or left behind. The thong will accommodate a variety of IFAK sizes from 5″x7″x3″ to a 5″x9″x3″.

Major Order for HENSOLDT Optronics

Oberkochen-based sensor specialist supplies sight systems worth almost 75 million euros for Dutch armoured reconnaissance vehicles

Oberkochen, Germany, 28 April 2021 – Sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT has received an order from Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) worth nearly 75 million euros to equip the Royal Netherlands Army’s “Fennek” armoured reconnaissance vehicles with visual systems. The scope of the order includes 188 BAA II NL observation and reconnaissance systems as well as a number of spare parts.

“Our optronic solutions combine sensors from different technologies to provide armoured vehicle crews with an excellent situational awareness,” said Andreas Hülle, CEO of HENSOLDT Optronics. “In the field, this capability is essential to fulfil the mission and ensure the protection of the crews.”

The BAA II NL is the logical further development of the BAA II JFST, which is already in use in the Joint Fire Support Team (JFST) of the German Armed Forces. The external dimensions have remained the same and the use and menu navigation have also been left unchanged in order to keep the training effort for the crew as low as possible.

The scope of the contract also includes adjustments to the YellowKite camera, which will be optimised to become a day-vision/near-infrared (NIR) camera with colour vision and will receive a near-infrared cut filter. In addition, HENSOLDT provides a digital outlet.

HENSOLDT will deliver the observation and reconnaissance systems to Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), which will handle the integration of the BAA II NL and its command and control system into the Fennek reconnaissance vehicles. Deliveries to KMW will begin in autumn 2022 with the qualification systems. Series delivery will start in 2023 and is scheduled to be completed by 2027.
