Marine Corps Awards Contract for Squad Binocular Night Vision Goggle To Harris Corp
September 7th, 2019The Marine Corps has made the following Announcement:
Harris Corp., Roanoke, Virginia, is being awarded a maximum $249,000,000 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for the purchase of Squad Binocular Night Vision Goggle systems; spare and repair parts; contractor logistics support; and test article refurbishment. Work will be performed in Roanoke, Virginia, and is expected to be complete by September 2024.Fiscal 2019 procurement (Marine Corps) funds in the amount of $328,203 will be obligated at time of award and funds will expire the end of fiscal 2021.This contract was competitively procured via the Federal Business Opportunities website, with six offers received. The Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, Virginia, is the contracting activity (M67854-19-D-1501).

Harris Corp’s night vision business is currently being purchased by the US subsidiary of Israel-based Elbit Systems (Elbit Systems of America). Harris recently was acquired by L3 Technologies, Inc and now goes by the name L3 Harris.
The Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE) Sponsors US Based Maxim Defense to be Part of the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE) in 2020
September 7th, 2019St Cloud, MN – Maxim Defense Industries, LLC announced Friday that they are working with the U.S. Army at Fort Benning and The Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE) has sponsored four (4) of their core products to be a part of Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE) in 2020.
The MCoE sponsored products include Maxims MDX weapon system consisting of the MDX:505/PDX (5.5″ barrel), the MDX:508 (8″ barrel), and the MDX:511 (11″ barrel) along with three (3) of their stock system variants; the Sub-Compact Weapon Stock (SCW), Maxim’s Gen7 Close Quarters Battle (CQB) Stock and the Combat Carbine Stock (CCS).
“This is added capabilities for Soldiers on the ground.” Said CJ Dugan, VP of MIL/GOV/Int’l Business Development. “These products not only help reduce the overall length of the M4 weapon system but by having the shorter barrel lengths of our MDX line, Soldiers will have rifle caliber capabilities in confined situations that historically only pistols were used.”

SIG P365 SAS
September 7th, 2019During the NRA Annual Meeting I was shown a couple of upcoming P365 models. The P365 XL is already out, but the one that really had me excited was the SAS model, which stands for SIG Anti Snag.
There are SAS models of other SIG pistols and they are designed as the ultimate Concealed Carry.
As you can see from these profile shots, the sights and controls don’t protrude.
The FT Bullseye sight is embedded into the slide and incorporates both fiber optics for day and tritium for low light.
Additionally, the barrel and slide are ported. SIG claims up to 30% less muzzle flip and zero front sight fouling, since there isn’t one.
Finally, the slide catch and takedown levers are flush.

DSEI 2019: RP Optical Lab Launches the Lightweight, High-Resolution MicroCORE 250HD Cooled Thermal Camera for Defense & HLS Applications

2 September 2019, RP Optical Lab – a leader in the field of thermal and SWIR electro-optical solutions – will launch its latest microCORE 250HD cooled camera with a high resolution that was developed for use in various defense and homeland security applications, at DSEI 2019.
The lightweight camera has a x16 continuous optical zoom, 1280×720 resolution with small 10µ pixel size that allows long viewing ranges and providing the ideal solution for systems and applications that require low weight and compact size, together with long ranges and high-resolution imagery.
The microCORE 250HD features auto focus and delivers high-quality image processing. Ruggedized for use in harsh environments, it also offers open-frame and IP-sealed configurations.
ZENITH lens will also be launched at DSEI. The ZENITH is a modular lens for HD 10? sensors, which features wide/long range capabilities with the widest FOV (field of view) being 40 degrees at ZENITH400 and the narrowest being 0.7 degrees at ZENITH100. The ZENITH features a very high optical zoom ratio of X22, with focus maintained throughout the entire zoom range, providing fast zoom and focus response. It is also actively athermalized to maintain a focused image through temperature changes.

US Army Selects True Velocity Composite-Cased Ammunition For Next Generation Squad Weapon
September 6th, 2019GARLAND, TX – True Velocity composite-cased ammunition has been selected for the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) modernization program. True Velocity’s 6.8mm composite-cased cartridge was submitted as part of an overall NGSW weapon system in partnership with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems and firearm manufacturer Beretta Defense Technologies.
True Velocity’s proprietary 6.8mm case design will provide end users with significant logistical and operational advantages over traditional brass-cased ammunition, including substantially increased effective range and muzzle energy, drastic reduction in cartridge weight and enhanced accuracy. Spectra’s SlingShot, which was recently awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation, is a unique, lightweight system that enables existing, in-service tactical military and commercial VHF/UHF radios to utilise commercial L-band satellite coverage (COMSATCOM).
